Connection to Limewire with Vista and Avast

I am really getting so very frustrated...

I am running Limewire 4.18.3 on Windows Vista. I have got a wireless internet connect and I'm running Avast! Antivirus version 4.8 Home Edition.

my limewire does NOT want to connect.. it keeps on having one green bar, and says it is currently trying to connect.

I have no idea what more to try - I've tried playing round with all of the settings, and re-installing limewire... also, where do i find this .limewire file on my vista system?

can someone who can give me specific advise in terms of my system specs PLEASE let me know how to fix this?

thanks a lot!

thanks a lot!!!

First, the "delete-the-pref-folder" advice did nothing for me.

Steps:

1) Launch Limewire. See the new "Tips" dialog box? DISABLE the show-tips-at-launch checkbox. Then click "ok" and hope you never see that box again.

2) Go to LimeWire Preferences and disable the auto-connect at launch option.

3) Quit Limewire. Then relaunch Limewire. Then manually "connect" from the menu. Voila!

I surmise that the new Tips box is interfering with the application's ability to connect!

cant get it to connect properly without it being a major hassle for hours on end...

still need help please!!!

In Limewire Links (below) click on (If LW will not connect) and go through these fixes -- if still no good click on (system details) fill in and post back here. The 1st link will show you where the lw folder is located in vista. What version of java are you running with LW (open limewire -> click on Help -> click on about limewire) it will show you your java /lw version

Ok, I've tried all the instructions and nothing is working. My McAfee and Window's Vista firewalls are letting Limewire through. It connects but with only 1 green bar but wont go all th way. I have the latest version too. I wanted the beta version but didn't see one listed. The beta versions have always worked on my computer and the other ones up until now. I've even deleted/uninstalled Limewire and re-installed it.

I'm running on:
Window's Vista
Java 1.6.0_07
Limewire 4.8.13
McAfee firewall & Window's firewall

Turn one of the firewalls off. XP firewall clashes with other firewalls resulting in less security & side effects, not more security. ;)

This fixed my problem of connecting. I use XP.

OS X:
/Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

Is a fix... thanks!
