To aid helpers in solving download/upload problems, LimeWire and Frostwire users must specify whether they are downloading a torrent file or a file from the Gnutella network. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving. Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity) Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban. 13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts. 14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts.  Lord: New approach needed Lord: It is obvious Limewire users are facing a NEW "Clear and Present Danger" in the past 60 days. We must face the fact that Limewire is being attacked from within/without. But with that being obvious now, why are we continuing to get "patch" type fix suggestions from you (none of which have worked for me, personally) when there is a true systemic problem. I cannot connect through Los Angeles Verizon (and Verizon claims no LW blocking), but NO ONE of five friends, with diffrent providers and different locations (50 miles away) are able to connect also. This situation is NEW for all of us. Is it not time for LW to start looking for the overall, systemic problem? This is not a rhetorical gibe, as I am a computer illiterate, but I do make my living as a corporate systems analyzer. Will you please respond to this query, as the whole community is very confused. Why can you not start some detective work at your end? I'll bet you a dollar the problem will turn out to be a major issue of attack from one of your detractors, rather than a problem of individual providers, co-incidently, trying to shut us down. Lets face...it defies logic. Thanx, goodkid P.S. I would like to hear others thoughts on what I just posted as well.  |

| have you ever heard of PeerGuardian?...it is basically a mini firewall which blocks known bad IPs...I use it all the time, and it regularly lights up like a christmas tree when on the gnutella network... btw, LOTR is 'just' the admin here..he is in no way officially associated with LW..in a nutshell, he's just a nutcase who has taken care of these forums for quite a while now (and IMHO done a damñ fine job of it!)

| goodkid1 how did you come to the conclusion that your connection problems are with your ISP and your friends problems as well....(I've looked back over your posts) As a corporate systems analyzer, you should be the first not to assume that everybodies problems are the same and there will be just the one fix... | Thanks for your posts. Peerless...what was your point on PeerGuardian please? Are you saying LW should not be used? (doubt it).....or are saying LW is under attack....or are you saying that I should download PerrGuardian, because it will clean up my connection problems? If #3, what is a good site to find it? "Wondering Why"....My conclusion is derived from the incredibly high number of people posting the same lament recently. This number is way off the charts for the past two months compared to earlier. Also, when five members, in three different cities, with four different providers ALL go haywire at the same time, there is something more major going on than certain individuals inadvertantly hitting some "default" button, or the like, thus changing their own computer settings. I am not suggesting it is from ISP's (please reread my second paragraph again). What I am suggesting is something more is going on here than meets the eye. In my opinion, as a computer novice, it is not an ISP issue at all,,but rather something from the recording artists reps, or other negatively interested parties, planting a virus at Limewire. As I have heard that there are many virus problems at P2P sites, I will venture that this is not beyond the realm of possibilty. And I stand by that.....  Lord, I incorrectly did assume you were an employee of Limewire. I also believe you are a fantastic guy, to give so much of your time and expertise to this forum. But, the problems continue. How do we contact the "Powers that be" at LW, and find out if any efforts, beyond this forum, are being made to correct the obvious (and newish) problems we customers are experiencing? | PeerGuardian is something all users (IMHO) of the gnutella network should have installed and running when using any of the clients that access said network...or any 'public' filesharing network.. it is not LW that is under attack, but the users of the whole network whether they be LW users, BS users, Shareaza users, etc... here's an example of what I see all the time when using BearShare in forced UP mode: I'll make a search, and very often the number of 'hits' PeerGuardian blocks are so numerous that it is obvious that I am basically being DDOS'd..and this is nothing 'new' rather something that has been building momentum for a while now...Macrovision, Cisco Systems Inc., fake emule servers, and FDC Servers.net,LLC are among the worst offenders from what I see in my logs...

As requested: 1 Windows XP 2 windows firewall 3 256 or 512 4 lots 5 Verzon Dsl California 6 Westell 6100 7 House 8 LW 4.8 and Java 5 jre 9 Verizon 10 "My test DID work" 11 no sharing 12 new problem with exp. user 13 dunno 14 dunno....checked and changed some things trying follow "sticky" directions....don't really know what is up now. | Ok...so to see if you have the wall in front of the globe you must of updated LW...Are you still running that update ?? With your Java 5.??, you can check what Java/s you have by going to the add/remove programs and let me know... Also your modem/router has an inbuilt Nat Firewall which can cause all sorts of problems... These are your instructions to Port Forwarding... Port Forwarding for the Westell 6100 We will start with that...

| Goodkid1 As a computer professional you should know that P2P throttling is a world-wide problem, not just a US, because most ISPs are convinced that their precious bandwidth is being used up by a hard-core minority, i.e. P2P users. I also believe that the RIAA, and their international collaborators, are encouraging ISPs to introduce anti-P2P methods wherever and whenever possible. Saying all that, you will find that whenever ISPs introduce “bandwidth throttling” they do not advertise the fact or even tell their help desk staff. Only if you contact a technical person in the organisation that you stand a chance of getting the truth. However, I have been told by a colleague that Sharaza, another P2P app, has a facility that can beat bandwidth throttling by automatically searching for a non-blocked port to use. How true this is I don’t know until I try it myself but, and here is grain of a thought, if this facility does work then LW should use it as well. But technically, I doubt this facility would work with a NAT firewall enabled modem/routers. Finally, I do believe there is a problem as you described but I think it is wider than just the narrow confines of the LW application. UK Bob |
