Default Need help connecting...

Ok, I know you guys here this all the time, but I'm having trouble connecting with Lime Wire and am very frustrated.

I am running Windows XP with COX as my ISP. I just downloaded LW version 4.14.10
When I open LW, there is a "Lime Wire Has Detected a Firewall" icon at the bottom of the window. I have Norton Internet Security and I spent countless hours w their tech support trying to figure out why I couldn't connect. Finally they showed me how to manually go into Program Control and "allow" the LW application.

After this, LW WORKED!! YAY!! And I was able to download. Then a week or so later when I logged into my LW again and had made NO changes, I'm back to the same old problem again. When I try a search, no results appear. I double checked my Norton and it still has the program set to "Allow".

I read through several of the FAQ links recommended and gained some general info but no specific help. There was one forum link on a step by step process to bypass ISP blocking but I think it was written for an older version of LW and I couldn't figure it out.

Can anyone please give me some steps to try and fix this? I'd really appreciate it! I'm not computer ignorant, but I'm also not savvy, so details are great.

Thanks!

dB

duck_butter,

Try removing any LW rules & then setting them again within Norton's configuration. These threads might help.

PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

If that doesn't help, delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will change all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

duck-butter & rizo77,

Do this test & see whether it works: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/
If the test doesn't work, in LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to something in the range of 49152 - 65535 (eg 65000) > apply > ok.

If you're still stuck, please give us your details (duck_butter, sorry for any repeats of what you've already told us).

Try this

I had this same problem and fixed it by:-

[1] Uninstall the old version before installing the new -- delete the old LW folders from the Programs directory before installing the new version
[2] Ensure that you have java script J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 (Jre ver 5) if not download from here:-

Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

* Uninstall Limewire by using LW uninstall program not the add/remove control panel
start -> all Programs -> Limewire -> Uninstall

Hope this helps -- please let us know -- Thanx

Bi 4 now
