I tried calling my ISP but the operator said it wasnt them blocking LW, besides I have used Limewire with this system and online setup before just with my old motherboard and hdd I had before the rebuild.

I might call the ISP again as it may still be them. the settings in my Norton were already set to allow LW.

have you tried replacing the gnutella.net file -- sometimes it gets corrupted -- if not try this:- (you must show all hidden files)
[1] Open windows explorer select Tools à Folder Options à View à Show hidden files and folders.
[2] In windows explorer look for the Limewire Folder – go here:-
c:\documents and settings\username\applications data\LimeWire
(or)
c:\documents and settings\username\limewire
[3] Ensure that limewire is completely off - check the system tray to see that it is not there - if it is click on it and select exit
[4] Open the .limewire folder and look for and delete the gnutella.net file –

[5] now download a new version from (here) and save it to your desktop[6 Drag the new gnutella.net file into the limewire folder.[5] Close the LW Folder and start up Limewire

Hey guys I've read the -read me first- stickies and I couldn't connect at first, but I replaced the gnutella.net file and viola, it worked!! and now I can connect but I still have a firewall icon next to my connection which is green. I can still download files and everything, but I was just wondering if I shouldn't have a firewall icon or if that's normal. The reason why I'm asking is because my laptop that runs windows XP has limewire-pro and gets blue bars with a turbo-charge connection and has no firewall icons. Is the fact that it's limewire-pro the reason why it gets the turbo-charge connection, or is it the firewall holding back my speed?

My pc running limewire ;

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows 98
2. What firewalls you have? None
3. How much ram? 512
4. Hard Disk space available? 5GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) broadband connected through a router.
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? NETGEAR RangeMax 802.11g Wireless Router Model: WPN824
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? Home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. Limewire 4.16.1 - Jave Version 1.6.0
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? AT&T
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It said "Your test worked!"
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. I'm sharing the connection with a laptop (running windows XP) connected wirelessly. Other than that, I run Limewire by itself.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. First time user
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Oh Yeah 0_0 . I can still download!! although I'm concern if this brick wall is holding my connection back from getting a "turbo-charge" or if that's just a lime-wire pro feature. Also I must add that even though I see a brick wall , my downloads are pretty quick.

Thanks :]

Pro always shows a turbocharged connection (blue bars).

If you're running basic LW then you'll only see a turbo connection if you connect as an ultrapeer, rather than a leaf. Connecting as an ultrapeer just means that you have a fast connection & aren't firewalled, so you have the capacity to handle more traffic than people with slower connections or people who are firewalled.

If you're seeing the firewall icon in LW on the Win 98 then you won't be able to connect as an ultrapeer & you won't see a turbo connection. There's no disadvantage in not being able to connect as an UP Being a leaf is fine.

If your XP computer isn't firewalled then other people should be able to download from you without a problem...if it was me I'd just say "yay" & not worry about the 98 If you desperately want the 98 to have a turbo connection, just copy your Pro installer over to that, install Pro & away you go!
