A new version of old virus? Hi, well I seem to be having the problem where my limewire keeps on reopening after i exit out. I have read around posts via internet and discovered that it's some kind of worm virus that won't even allow you to open your task manager. Furthermore, the virus is disguised as "winupdates.exe". So I figured this was my problem, and when I followed the directions to remove this virus, it wasn't there. The odd thing is, I AM able to access task manager, but I still don't know why my limewire keeps restarting itself. So maybe I'm thinking this is a new virus with similar symptoms? Any suggestions? :) |
have You gone into the options section and set it to exit the program when you quit it? Or is it set to close down to the system tray? which will leave Limewire running in the background until you shutdown your computer. |

Check this link )(w32.Alcra.B worm) also this (W32/Alcra-B disinfection instructions) if you are unsure or dont understand these instructions I suggest you register (free) with one of the malware forums such as (BleepingComputers) (Geeks to go) (Tech Support Guy Forums) they have experts who deal with viruses, worms and all the rest of the nasties on a daily basis. |
Thanks guys, I'll try them out. |
Hey Im having the same problem where it keeps reopening even after I completely close out of it. Not only that but I even uninstalled it and it still reopens. Would the links that Skyliner post help me out with my problem too? |
Yes. Skyliner has identified the Virus and has also given Links for help. You can also check these out. Sounds like you're infected. Check out the thread below for a couple of different fixes. 2 probs (LW keeps restarting & can't access options) Also try the fix that worked for sirios in the thread below. Starts on its own/ options folder won't open (possible fix) If nothing helps, go to one of the malware removal sites listed in the first thread There are heaps of infected files on the network. Always make sure that you're using a good antivirus program. Keep it updated & use it to scan every file that you download, before opening the file. WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of! |
Thanks for the help. One thing though. In one of the steps it says "Download Alcra PLUS Remover at this link" but there is no link beside it. The only thing that I can click on is a link to http://metallica.geekstogo.com/alcanshorty.bfu is that what I am suppose to download? |

Steps · Restart the computer. Some computers have a progress bar that refers to the word BIOS. Others may not let you know what is happening. · As soon as the BIOS loads, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. . If this happens, restart the computer and try again. Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, select Safe |
