Hi, well I seem to be having the problem where my limewire keeps on reopening after i exit out. I have read around posts via internet and discovered that it's some kind of worm virus that won't even allow you to open your task manager. Furthermore, the virus is disguised as "winupdates.exe". So I figured this was my problem, and when I followed the directions to remove this virus, it wasn't there. The odd thing is, I AM able to access task manager, but I still don't know why my limewire keeps restarting itself. So maybe I'm thinking this is a new virus with similar symptoms? Any suggestions?

have You gone into the options section and set it to exit the program when you quit it?
Or is it set to close down to the system tray? which will leave Limewire running in the background until you shutdown your computer.

Hey Im having the same problem where it keeps reopening even after I completely close out of it. Not only that but I even uninstalled it and it still reopens. Would the links that Skyliner post help me out with my problem too?

Sounds like you're infected. Check out the thread below for a couple of different fixes.

If nothing helps, go to one of the malware removal sites listed in the first thread
There are heaps of infected files on the network. Always make sure that you're using a good antivirus program. Keep it updated & use it to scan every file that you download, before opening the file.
WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of!

Thanks for the help. One thing though. In one of the steps it says "Download Alcra PLUS Remover at this link" but there is no link beside it. The only thing that I can click on is a link to http://metallica.geekstogo.com/alcanshorty.bfu is that what I am suppose to download?

ensure that you do have the virus winupdates.exe "ALIAS" W32/Alcra-B before you use the possible fixes I passed to " jaeyun51 " -- your antivirus program will tell you the virus you do have -- that's if it's picked it up at all -- otherwise pse follow the suggestions that "Remoc" has made.

This is going to sound stupid but how do I reboot in safe mode? Is that when Im logging on to my computer and it says to press like F1 or something?

HOW TO: Start Windows XP in Safe Mode using the F8 key

Steps

· Restart the computer.
Some computers have a progress bar that refers to the word BIOS. Others may not let you know what is happening.
· As soon as the BIOS loads, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears.
If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message.
