Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

I occassionally get the Java error windows too. The Limewire error messages seems rather terse and useless; the "please cut and paste and email this error message to us" is ridiculous. The error messages thrown by Xolox are really informative (to a programmer, anyway) and they are automatically sent to the Xolox support team's web site. It's a really cool setup. Now is Xolox would also support live, automatic updates.

But I agree with your assessment--Limewire's stability seems to have degraded over the past few releases.

This is rediculous. This forum is based on a shoddy self help system. Endless posts about what people think is the reason for a problem and bad suggestions on how to fix it. Not one good answer from the developer. Ignoring a problem doesn't make it go away, and I'm tired of reading back and forth posts which amount to nothing more than a "No, YOUR stupid!" argument.

It is undoubtable that limewire 2.8.5 is rediculously flawed. It is undoubtable that much more than a fraction of an improvement to the download errors can be obtained by the users. Limewire needs to do something about this. I would never register a program this bad. I used limwire 2.7 and considered supporting p2p sharing (registering), but it has become apparent that I might as well just throw my money in the gutter. I would never pay for a program with a degrading future. It's barely useable now.

Someone from the inside should explain this "could not move to library" issue. It's a lot better than a hundred people randomly guessing at what's wrong! Throw us a bone man!

Default "Could not move to library"

Guys, guys, guys !!!!

If you continue to ignore the "Could not move to library" problem, it is going to kill this product !!!!!!!!!

I have spent considerable time experimenting with different solutions and nothing *fixes* it. I have tried every version from 2.6.3 to 2.8.6 and they all do it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it numerous times. I have lost at least 50 downloads.

There are numerous complaints in this forum and I have only seen a few explanations. None of these explanations hold water.

Explanation # 1. The file has special characters. Response: I did not see any special characters in any of the 50+ downloads that failed. Are the special characters hidden?

Work-around #1. Kill the download before it finishes and restart it. Response: If the problem is special characters, then why does killing the download and restarting it work??? It should fail either way, right?

Don't take my word for it. Search through this forum and read all of the different comments where people HAVE had success with this work-around.

Explanation # 2. The file was corrupted. Response: Limewire only reported corruption in 1 of the 50+ files.

Explanation # 3. Hard drive is full. Response: I have over 50 megs. available on my hard drive.

Explanation # 4. The problem is caused by a Firewire drive. Response: I do not have a Firewire drive.

Explanation # 5. Insufficient system memory. Response: I upgraded from 128 megs to 256 megs of ram and still get this error.

Work around #2. Go to the Incomplete folder and move the file manually. Response: I have not been able to find any of the 50+ downloads that failed with this error. It appears that Limewire deletes the file from the Incomplete folder BEFORE it determines that it can't save it to the Shared folder.

Don't take my word for it. Search through this forum and read all of the different comments where people have NOT had success with this work-around.

At this point, I have completely given up on Limewire. I have not had a successful download in 2 weeks!!! I really like the product and I am not trying to slam it. I just want some one to take the problem seriously and fix it.

Thanks!
Lee

Well, I tried to download a 500MB plus download from limewire. I found that when the file said, "could not move to library", that I would kill the download and restart the download, and it would pick up where it started. Sometimes it would pop the message back up immediatly, and sometimes it wouldn't. It seems to depend on who it's downloading it from.

I'm using a quicksilver g4 Mac and 2.7.3. I suggest when you get that error, search for the file. When you find the file with THE EXACT SIZE AND NAME, kill the failed download and download the new file. It should pick up from the download from where it left off. If it fails immediatly again, find the file again, kill the failed download, and start the download on the new file again. But quit the program immediatly before it connects. This will keep the program in the data. Then try again later.

This is only a suggestion. And I'm not sure if it will work on other platforms. The key elements is that the name and the size remain the same. Otherwise it will restart the download. I also set the pref's so that it will keep incomplete downloads for 60 days.

Another note: When I finished the file, the file was renamed to something along the lines of "party.mpg", which was much different from the .dmg file that I intended to download. Renaming the file, I found that the data was OK. Maybe the problem is that the file matching feature of limewire confuses the file for another of similar size, and then errors when the data doesn't match. That's just a guess. See my above gripe if you like to listen to angry rants.

Default Adieus!!!!!!!!!!

I recently installed DEADwire (based on a friends recommendation) and have tried to download several files. If the download is completed (a big if) IN EVERY CASE I receive the message "cannot move to library" in all other cases I receive the message "requery sent waiting". I HAVE YET TO DOWNLOAD ONE FILE SUCCESSFULLY! When viewing the forums such as this one I note that this is not only a common problem but is getting worse! Obviously the powers to be at DEADwire are incapable of solving the problem or worse do not care! In either case when enough members leave, maybe they will then have enough spare time on their hands to rectify the problem. I can assure you that I will do my best to keep new members from joining.

I have better things to do with my time then baby sit this program!

2.8.6 PRO doesn't work either, and their supposed "support" is total crap. Emails to Limewire get the same response that the file's too big, it has strange characters, or you don't have enough disk space.

All this is crap. I used the free version of 2.6.2 and had no problems with it, but then I started getting messages that it would stop working soon unless I upgraded. So I bought the Pro version of 2.8.6 and now it totally blows.

I never had a problem like this with any other gnutella program. And the worst part is that limewire couldn't seem to care less.

I guess it's back to Xolox. Screw limewire.
