I actually got limewire working the first time I downloaded it, and I was able to download some songs and stuff. Afterwards, I updated the operating system on the mac and had to restart it. After I rebooted it and had installed all the stuff, limewire would only bounce in the dock and disappear. I tried the thing with the control clicks and everything, but there was no line in text edit the said <string>prelude</string> so I couldn't change anything. I tried removing all the files from my computer and then I installed limewire again, but it still doesn't work. Oh, and I also installed a new java thing while limewire wasn't working. I hope you can help, thanks.

Ian* did you install http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...acosx1039.html

If so, check LOTR's links about general OSX troubleshooting, especially the one about Safe Boot

Reinstalling Java offline installer & repairing permissions is usually the way to go for Tiger.

Offline installer

where do i go 2 get the offline installer?

At apple. Try this one http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...lease4ppc.html "IF" you have a ppc mac. But if you have the new intell mac then use this one http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...ase4intel.html
If it won't let you reinstall it, go to the Receipts folder & remove the previous last Java update. Receipts folder sample image
Scroll down to see the Tiger equivalent. Remove only J2SE50Release4.pkg
Remember to do a safe boot & repair permissions after installing. ;)

Are you running Java 1.5 or 1.4? Go to the Utilities folder & open the Java > J2SE 5.0 > Preferences & make sure Java 1.5 is selected. It's described here Setting up Java 1.5

You could also try deleting your LW prefs folder found here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

But that would mean you'd need to reset all your LW options if you can open it.

Not installed

I did wat u sed and went to java preferences but it sed Could not launch the application because it requires a version of Java that is not installed. This application requires Java 1.5, but only the following Java versions are installed: 1.4.2, 1.3.1, 1.3, 1.4. Updating to a newer version of Mac OS X may resolve this. I also deleted the limewire folder.
