Oh ok.

I opened the console and ran the Limewire installer. This is what printed in the console during the install.

When I tried to run Limewire it would just sit in the dock and do nothing. It would not launch and I would have to force it to quit.

Does the above technobabble mean anything to anyone?

PS: Here is a log of my system updates. Java 1.4.1 isn't listed because I installed it manually instead of through the system updater.

This might help SBerlin & team. I wonder if the Jum build will suffer the same issue. It did for another person who was/is having a slightly similar issue ( Limewire bouncing icon will not connect )

georger December 22nd, 2004 09:22 AM

Hey, thanks for the link! :) :)

The Jum build completely solved the problem!

georger December 26th, 2004 07:49 AM

update: Everything continues to run very well now. The Jum build is working perfectly, giving my shared files "Turbo" sharing quality.

The "official" Limewire build still doesn't work for me - strange that it once did but now refuses to launch.

Merry Christmas!

We'll take a look at what might be different between Jens-Uwe's bundle and ours. Thanks for letting us know you were able to get it working. Hopefully we can make it so that it'll work with our build. :)

Bouncing icon and disappearing

I took sberlin's advice and it worked. THANKS!!!:

Repairing an Incomplete Java Installation

For systems fitting the symptoms described in the first section of this technical note, the problem can be corrected with a manual fix requiring an administrator-level account.

From the Finder, navigate to /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Resources/

Move the version.plist file to the Trash.

An authentication dialog may appear. Enter an administrator username and password.

Confirm that the version.plist is no longer in /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Resources/.

Insert the Mac OS X v10.3 Install Disc 1 CD. If a new Finder window opens presenting the installer, close it.

Open a new Finder window
Navigate to Mac OS X Install Disc 1/System/Installation/Packages/ and double-click the file called Java.pkg.

Follow the instructions on the installer.

Following these steps should force an installation of the proper Java version onto the system, restoring proper behavior. This can be confirmed with the Terminal test described above. You may still notice the HotSpot not at correct virtual address.

Sharing disabled. message after performing these steps, which should disappear after rebooting.

If you have installed the "Security Update 2003-10-28" before following these steps you will additionally need to reinstall that update, as the Java package on the CD precedes it:

Open a new Finder window

Navigate to /Library/Receipts

Move SecurityUpd2003-10-28.pkg to the Trash.

Run Software Update and re-download "Security Update 2003-10-28"

limewire still won't open

I have tried all the fixes suggested in this forum, and Limewire still won't open . Everything was fine until the OS10.3.6 update. I had been tempted to go pro right before this happened, and I am glad I didn't. I have the latest Limewire installed 4.2.6
