"Get LimeWire 2.9.8!" ... I tried to, I got the same error. It tried to open the file in ACDSee (my image viewer) then said: "The file "LimeWireMac.bin" is damaged or in an unreadable format." So I tried to reinstall the old version, and get the same things as before. When I click the "Details", I get: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.limegroup.gnutella.gui.Main at com.zerog.lax.LAX.launch(Compiled Code) at com.zerog.lax.LAX.main(Unknown Source) at com.apple.mrj.JManager.JMStaticMethodDispatcher.ru n(JMAWTContextImpl.java) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java) Does that help any? I'm getting frustrated with this, I've tried the suggestions with the limewire.lax file, or whatever it was back there... restarted... replaced the whole file with the text in that reply... restarted... uninstalled, reinstalled, restarted... *pulls hair out* heh =) :( But I do thank everyone for all their suggestions thus far, it helps to know someone's actually trying to help. |
I like wise have tried all that has been suggested. with the prefernce and lax thingy. nothing I agree with CherylP, thanks for the help Please, lets get this figured out:) |
Try LimeWire 2.9.7 or 2.9.8 (not 2.9.8.2). http://www3.limewire.com/download/ |

All people well almost all people that uses LimeWire on Classical Mac OS 9.1 or above uses that path. But anyway changing the content of the LAX file obviously dont work. Finally we are getting somewhere with this issue. It seems that the second version of 2.9.8 the so called 2.9.8.2 is corrupt and are missing some files or have faulty code lines and are basically corrupt and does not work atleast not the Classical Mac OS version. The simple solution is to do what trap_jaw suggested and download and install the first version of 2.9.8 instead. Which is available here: http://www3.limewire.com/download/2.9.8/ Finally a temporary solution but the LimeWire team must do some fixing work for the next update. |
FINALLY! :) Yes, it worked for me too. *hops up and down* Thank you everyone. To the person that had the "damaged file" message, I dragged it and dropped it on the Stuffit Expander alias I had... and it worked. But yeah, only 2.9.8 worked, I guess I assumed that when I clicked on download, that was the version it was downloading. :) 2.9.7 didn't work for me either. So yeah! Thanks so much guys, I was going nuts not being able to dl any music. ;) You're all wonderful. |
Now I'm back to square one. "Disconnected / no files available"... which ironically, is the reason I was trying to download a newer version in the first place, to see if it would fix that problem. *grin* Ah, the wonderful world of computers. If anyone knows the answer to that, I'm all ears. I assume I need to add more servers, or something? I'll go post it in a more appropriate group though... :) |

Since it is the first time that you are running the newly downloaded LW it will hash and index your files if you share any files. It can take quite some time the first time to get the green light indicating a successfull connection to a UltraPeer. So just be patient and see if it will connect after a couple of minutes. And during this time you should watch the things that happens under the Connection tab. Here you can monitor all connection attempts. About 90% of the connection attempts should fail with 10% beeing successfull. When you have 3 connections going out to 3 UltraPeers then LW has successfully connected. |
Finally Back in Business! Whew! Well, I tried superduck 94's suggestion and deleted the .bin file extension. Worked like a charm. I installed LimeWire, but then COULDN'T OPEN IT! Something about not being able to read the Java script. This was not a good thing, since my version had worked before I took his advice. As a last resort, not expecting to have any luck at all, I tried Joakim Agren's link to v. 2.9.8. Went through the download process again, deleted the .bin. file extension. and this time everything sorted itself out. Don't know how. Don't know why. Just know I'm happy. :) So thanks to superduck for the .bin tip, and to Joakim for the 2.9.8 link to use it on! |
