You can CHANGE the port LW is using yourself. That's why WW suggested trying a different port. But don't choose a port anything else is using ... be it another computer or another program or even the same program but different user account. Although not necessary, it is better to do a separate port forwarding for each of TCP & UDP (can improve performance from the router in some situations).

Before we can forward ports for LimeWire, we need to figure out what ports LimeWire is using. Here is a brief walkthrough on how to do that. Go ahead and open up LimeWire.

You didn't exactly say that you couldn't even get limewire started, I read you post as saying that you cannot connect to any peers...
My Bad...

Do this....

Try uninstalling all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....

Try this...

Right-click the Limewire icon and go to properties and change compatability setting to Windows 2000. (but only if you're using Windows 2000 or later.) Somebody reported changing to Windows NT compatibility fixed their problem despite not using that operating system version.

Right-click on the Limewire icon on the desktop and click on Run as. Then it should come up showing the current user and then switch it over to Administrator. (but 'only' if you're the admin of your comp.!)

If you still have no luck try the preference folder/s again....

I tried the windows NT and 2000 thing. Windows just tells me it experienced an error and had to close limewire and is checking for a solution and so on.
Hey i dont know how closely you work with the developers but are they working on a fix or a new release of some kind?
And brisbane's a nice place I pass through there on occassion.
