Default Changing Default Player

Hello everyone!

Basically my problem is this. As i do not like using windows media player, i have opted to using VLC Media player From VideoLAN

I prefer this player, as it just generally better for my use, but it seems to have a problem with Limewire...Or that, I cannot make it play through VLC.

As i am aware the Defualt player for Video/mpg/avi/ect files is windows media player, and that's what boots when you press "Launch" on a file. I've had a look through all the options on Limewire, and i cannot find where i can change the defualt player of those files to this other player.

I use the latest version of limewire, but NOT Limewire Pro.

Is there a way to change this default player or will i be bound to opening up the many different folders just to get to where the file downloaded to?

Please respond ASAP.

If there isn't a way, i think a feature which should be avaliable for the Free version is the ability to change default video player.

Hi Hellraiser121,

You have to make the change in windows not limewire.

Open the folder with your files in it. Now right click a file and click on Properties > then click on "Change" > choose VLC from the list > click OK > Apply > OK.

Do that for each file type you want to change. I don't think you can launch files from limewire using VLC. You'll have to launch them from their windows folder, or maybe it's just previewing. I'm not sure right off hand.

I know, and i've done that :P Yeah my Default File type for Videos ect is using VLC media player already. I'm unable to preview through VLC or launch fully downloaded files either.

If anyone else can shed some light on this problem i would be most greatful.

You'll only be able to launch & preview within LW using VLC if you're using one of the LW Beta versions 4.13.0 & onwards. Latest Beta is 4.13.10.

If you're using a stable release, you'll have to preview & launch from your incomplete & saved folders outside of LW. It's no drama.
To preview go to LW's library, click on Incomplete Files. Highlight the file & click Explore. Your incomplete folder will open, preview from there.

Same deal for launching, except that you'll go to Saved Files within the LW library then click Explore etc.
