If it was a cheque, I'd imagine they would either return it or a period of time for the cheque to be cleared by the bank which might be a while for them to check when it is cleared & then follow up from there. This is obviously not a procedure they would normally do, so not surprised it would take much longer than normal, such as for a bank order.
