I keep coming back to your post - wonder why? Anyway I'm afraid I have failed to download your version because I couldn't get past filecloud.io. I try to register and it keeps telling me ‘username entered is too short’. I even put in all 26 letters of the alphabet in a string in order and that was too short also! I've sent them an email asking them what the hell they require.

Meanwhile I think I'll read your posting again...

Just installed Limewire for the 3rd time. Have used it successfully the previous twice over the years but this time I start a search for Audio - Artist James ***/Jackson *** (tried both) and nothing happens - just the whirring cursor in the middle of the screen. I've had this problem before and it was a simple solution - wish I could remember it! Help!

thanks and regards

Are you sure you're connected? With 5 blue bars bottom of screen?

Try step 2 (Deleting LW prefs folder) here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...ng-should.html though this will mean you will lose the word filters & some other settings if you used the setup provided by the forum. Also if you used the Security blocklist, you will need to re-install that.

Hello LotR

You helped me with exactly the same problem a few years ago when I had XP but this one is more complicated. I'm using Windows 7 now.

"Are you sure you're connected? With 5 blue bars bottom of screen?"

No I see no bars.

"Try step 2 (Deleting LW prefs folder) here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...ng-should.html .."

Done. I deleted the Limeware folder from AppData, right clicked on the LW icon and 'run as administrator' after setting the compatibility setting to 'windows 7'

I had earlier installed Java 1.6 so I re-installed it clicking on your 'offline' link, but I still don't see how the hell you can specify 'run as administrator' - right click does nothing.

So all in all I've got nowhere. This is my 3rd installation of LimeWire over the years and this is the only time I've achieved sweet FA with it.

Your assistance is much appreciated.

brgds

Did you get my previous response to this message? I can't find it anywhere. I only sent it 10 minutes ago.

No I do not have any blue bars - they're greyed out - and it just says 'connecting' but never does.

For Windows 7, it seems to be very important to set Java to Run as Admin or else your LW will most likely struggle to get a connection.
And your problem appears to be no connection which is why you cannot get any search results.

When you downloaded the offline java installer, it will most likely have been saved into C:\Users\Username\Downloads. So the idea would have been to go to that folder to find the Java installer & set it to run as admin. Alternatively, you can search Java.exe in Start menu & under programs it will show up (right-click & choose Properties, Compatibility tab, check option for Run as Admin. at bottom of that window.)

Are you using LimeStart? This starter program will protect your connection file if LW has not been used in previous 30 days.
You might need to use a connection fix installer to install a fresh connection file: LPE Connection Fix installer

I suspect the Java not set to Run as Admin for Win 7 was the cause of the problem after you had re-installed LW.
(My first reply above was when I was about to go to bed after a long night, was new years day here since I'm ahead of USA & Europe in time.)

Thanks for that - much appreciated. I'll give it a whirl.

My first concern is to run Java as Admin and I admit I am totally perplexed as to how you achieve that. I have saved the Offline installation file to C:/users/downloads. I have right clicked on the saved download file and/or also I have then dragged it to my desktop and right clicked on the icon. In both cases there is no 'run as administrator' option on the drop down menu.

I appreciate your helping me on this issue and I am sure you have helped dozens of people to get started over the years, but it gets to the point where it seems impossible to make progress and becomes so frustrating that you wonder whether to bother any more. I have successfully downloaded LimeWire and it starts and gives me all the functionality except the most important one - connectivity. It really should be easier than this. There is a Youtube video showing some processes to follow. I haven't yet tried that because you seem pretty certain that my Java problem is the big hurdle. Please help me get over it.

many thanks

Are you logged in as an administrator of your computer?
If yes, right-clicking the Java installer should show an option to Run as Administrator. Sounds to me like you are not logged in with Admin permissions. ie:

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...-run-admin.gif but instead do this with the Java installer.
