LimeWire Pirate Edition

3 Attachment(s)
LimeWire Pirate Edition is free, open source software based on the final beta version of the popular LimeWire filesharing application. After Lime Wire LLC stopped distributing its software in October 2010, a horde of piratical monkeys climbed aboard the abandoned ship, mended its sails, polished its cannons and released it FREE to the community to help keep the Gnutella network alive.

LimeWire Pirate Edition is pure P2P software; it does not depend on any servers operated by Lime Wire LLC or other companies. It does not include any adware or spyware, and it cannot be remotely monitored or shut down.

Announcing the first release of LimeWire Pirate Edition:
  • Based on LimeWire 5.6 beta
    • Turbo-charged downloads
    • Optimized search results
    • AVG Anti-Virus
  • Built-in torrent search
  • No toolbars, adware or spyware
  • No connection problems

On Dec 11, 2010, a project was registered at SourceForge under a new name WireShare claiming to be LPE. But not much happened other than renaming the program. Thanks to the LPE/WS team for doing this. However, using the WireShare source code, a community & forum member has released the equivalent of LPE 5.6.3 with the new name WireShare. . (Volunteers are welcome.)

* Known Windows issues: (The Windows versions have java fixes included within the install package.) (a) LimeWire 5/LPE running with Java 7? Important to see this . ou Francais ici, however LimeStart will by-pass this problem if you choose to install it (LW Setup now replaces the need for LimeStart!) . . (b) 64-Bit Java 7 update problem: re-install the 32-Bit Java last and all will be ok. Symptoms: (a) java error when opening LW, (b) LW changing it's download location and location of settings, and unable to connect. (Fixed in WireShare 5.6.3)
Two other issues and workarounds: (1) LW freezing when changing download location (Java 7 only bug): Need to change it manually. (2) "Done but unable to scan for viruses" (this also prevents music transfers to iTunes.) This problem was fixed in the WireShare 5.6.4 version.

Mac version: - OSX 10.5 or higher (MacOSX 10.10 Yosemite +10.9, 10.8, + 10.7 users will need to install Apple's Java 6 first before using the LimeWire installer. Source code:

LPE 5.6.2 Browse or download from github

LimeWire 5.4.7 Source Code via AfterDawn

To download from 4Shared, you need to be a member of their site. You can register there for free. Try to ignore the advertisements and sponsored download buttons.

All Windows and MacOSX versions are now packaged with an optional security installer to help block out the very worst spam companies. The MacOSX package includes LimeStart by LOTR to prevent LW deleting the connection file if not used in 30 or more days. Instructions are included and order of installation for each. Linux users for manual installation of the Security packages, see Security packages for LimeWire (help block out the spam and evil hosts).
Windows LPE install packages also include a LimeStart installer, as described here. This has two functions: (1) prevents LW deleting the connection file if not used in 30 or more days. (2) Overrides the LW launch problem with Java 7. (Note for Windows users: Lime Setup now replaces the need for LimeStart!)
There is now a Linux LimeStart, search spam filter and Security package optional download, however this download is separate from the actual Linux LPE installer download, details here or just the LimeStart alone.

MacOSX versions, if problems opening LW, select the program from Applications folder and 'Get Info' (command-i), check the 'Open in 32-bit mode' and this might fix your problem but only if you are booting OSX into 32-bit mode (sample image below.) OSX compatibility for LPE or any LW 5 version is minimum OSX 10.5 (intel) or for older macs 10.6 or later. LW 4 found here.
Attachment 6665

* See below in post #3 for File_Girl71's adapted Pirate version for Windows only. Read the changes to be aware of the improvements.
. (Note: the in-built AVG no longer works in any version of LW, the definitions expired early 2011. The AVG may cause problem errors for some Windows users.)

Do not disable file-sharing, do not 'freeload', if nobody were sharing files, you know of course there would be no files to download. If you are a part of the file-sharing community, then share your part and be a respected member of the file-sharing community. Do you never return what you borrow from your friends? Do you never return your partner's kisses and attention? File-sharing can even be a passion!

That's why I'm here. Let's see what gnutella network is like, and if the Limewire Pirate Edition is worthwhile.

File_Girl71 November 11th, 2010 11:21 AM

Here is some work i did on the LimeWire Pirate Edition 5.6.2 my self, and few things i had to change on it...
Code:

 ChangeLog:
-This release of LW Pirate Edition is for Windows OS!
-Have turbo charged connection, but it is no Pro relase!
-Removed the ugly splash screen to LW Pirate Edition...It has a nice one now!
-Removed AVG Antivirus (Useless pail of Crap!).
-Changed some resource files because of the removal of AVG Antivirus.
-Removed some not needed files like SOURCE, COPY and Flash Player Plugin.
-Repacked the installer so it is a light weight one now!
-Java is seperated from the installer, so it will not download a corrupt Java!

The user must install the Java by them self and use only offline installer ...

Download 'Offline' Java 1.6 Installer For Windows Here: Java Downloads for All Operating Systems (Careful to choose the Offline installer about 16.0 MB in size, not the online installer.)

sam3971 November 17th, 2010 08:00 PM

Hi guys, anyone else having issues with the AVG plugin not downloading updates? I recently installed LPE on a friends laptop and it did not download the AVG update and any other computer I Have won't as well. It might be possible that AVG shut it down... Please anyone, respond if you know lol.

Mr. Shadow November 17th, 2010 08:03 PM

Actually it was left enabled in this version. The only version that had it disabled was that custom version by that other user on page 1. I know it used to update yesterday but not today.

young eng November 18th, 2010 04:32 AM

Thank U(dear Mr.shadow and sam3971) ,
sam3971 is right but I use links provided by File_girl71 and get the disabled AVG anti-virus limewire version.

5starb1tch November 21st, 2010 05:22 PM

when i search in new LPE it does not get results with more than 1 p2p user ?? any1 know why

blackxacto November 22nd, 2010 01:06 PM

LW on intel Mac

I opened my own Limewire and got the message that the service had been blocked. Am I to understand that people are still using it in some way around this?

Downloading Torrents have confused me in the past so I stuck w LW. Yes, I am challenged in many ways.:bangh:

naj6952 November 22nd, 2010 03:08 PM

I'm confused...if I click on the download button, it starts to download what appears to be a video player. If I click on the download from these files only....it's only the pay version.
Isn't there a fix to the free version?

Mr. Shadow November 22nd, 2010 03:47 PM

:xirokrotima:We are using he Pirate version and it works great. The more people we get networking the faster it will be and the more results users will obtain.

David91 November 22nd, 2010 07:07 PM

I've been absent from the forum for a long time but, like all good addicts, I've been using the product until. . .

Extreme withdrawal symptoms have now been relieved. No more tremors or puking over the keyboard. . .

Thank you File-Girl!

Lord of the Rings November 22nd, 2010 07:15 PM

wow David91 great to see you back. :)

David91 November 22nd, 2010 07:20 PM

Yeh. Long time no see. :)

And many of the "old pros" are still here! Meaning "old" in the nicest possible sense of the word given my own age, of course.

Hi

That bouncing on the bed thing — inspiring.

Thought I'd try!

Your bits are conveniently out of harm's way, but what's left of my bits got caught in the springs. . .

They tried stitching — too much damage. . .

Life as a woman starts at 92.

pooter November 23rd, 2010 07:50 AM

i'm nervouse about downloading this, filegirl - having to upload the jave seperately seems to be more than i can do (i'm such a newbie). any thoughts?

Lord of the Rings November 23rd, 2010 09:09 AM

You can download the Offline installer from the Java site directly. Just make sure you choose the Offline version which is listed 2nd on the page & is a 15.3 MB download; Java Downloads for All Operating Systems - including offline installers. After installing Java, it is best to reboot your computer. ;) You will need to install Java first before you can run LimeWire.
If you are running Windows 7, right-click the Java offline installer after downloading & choose Run As Administrator before installing the Java. This sometimes helps for Vista and occasionally XP.

(Sample image of Java download page below, choose 2nd on list which is the Offline installer.)

limewire...

I haven't been to limewire..which i paid for some upgrade about 5 years ago.,for a couple of years. Then my harddrive froze up and i got a new harddrive. I don't know what version i had...or if i lost the songs i had in my library at limewire. Is there anyway to get it back? who would know? Is the pirated version an older version? Does anyone have an idea what I might have had 5 years ago? When i first went on limewire..songs would flip over to my itunes...then i got the upgraded cost money version and that quit happening...but there was two songs i got that i miss so much and i can't find it anywhere...it was by someone named clive..can't remember his last name or if that was his first name. He had something to do with producing some recording group a long time ago...something like the electric orchestra but i don't think it was that.. He had one song about paris..and he had this forelorn voice ..does anyone know or can someone look it up on limewire or tell me how to get my paid for limewire back or doesn't that work anymore.

carol

David91 November 23rd, 2010 11:37 AM

Limewire always downloads the files to wherever you nominate on your drive. If you did not recover anything from your old drive before fitting the new, I'm sad to say you've lost whatever you had.

Clive Davies is now old but a really famous record producer. The Electric Light Orchestra has a terrific middle period. Out of the Blue, Discovery and Time are my favourites. Try looking at lists of ELOs tracks and see if anything strikes a memory chord.

Sadly, you cannot get any money back from Limewire for what you had. For this pirate version, just download and enjoy searching for what you lost.

rogerinfrance November 23rd, 2010 02:44 PM

d/l the pirate version cleared my problems, my original worked up until a little while ago so I reckon its was blocked somehow.
Anyway is not the injunction in the UK, not here in outer mongolia?

rogerinfrance November 23rd, 2010 02:50 PM

About the java, do not worry, java is a perfectly good system used on lots of other kit. Many things you possibly do not know actually use java. If you D/L it from here it is safe and easy to use. They also have loads of other free stuff like office, I have installed it on several other people machines and it works superbly only snag is its in yank not real English.

pooter November 23rd, 2010 02:53 PM

merci to all who replied. i'm going to gird my loins and dive in, manana!

David91 November 23rd, 2010 05:12 PM

The court order was made against Limewire in the US where the company is based. Thus the company can no longer promote or support its software package. The downloaded version is called "pirate" because it allows you to access the gnutella network no matter where you live, i.e. the network exists independently of Limewire's software and is not affected by the court order.

cozzete November 23rd, 2010 06:49 PM

downloaded,didn't work

i downloaded the evolution one for my i mac and when i click on it..nothing happens.

David91 November 23rd, 2010 06:55 PM

I have an Intel iMac. The download unpacked from the dmg and the installation was trouble free. Perhaps you did not get a clean copy. I suggest you delete whatever you downloaded and try again.

cozzete November 23rd, 2010 07:02 PM

I copied it from the first transmission on this page

How do i get rid of it? I'm a compudiot.

cozzete November 23rd, 2010 07:04 PM

okay..i think i deleted it. gone from my desktop. So which one do i copy...can you send me a link to download it?

David91 November 23rd, 2010 07:13 PM

I downloaded mine from evolutionreloaded.

I'm not that good with html but I think you just click on this link and wait for results. If my attempted link doesn't work properly, the link definitely works from this address: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/gettin...e-edition.html

cozzete November 23rd, 2010 07:26 PM

i'm going to bed...too crazy. i tried the one you did...it said error on the page...the next one i went through..they wanted money. I'll try again tommorow. Thanks

David91 November 23rd, 2010 07:57 PM

OK sorry about that — I'm on autopilot and not checking on the links. This seems to work: 4shared.com - free file sharing and storage - download

blackxacto November 23rd, 2010 11:08 PM

got it

:yahoo:Found the yo ho ho for my intel iMac and works perfectly. Yowza! Thanks for your help and programming talent.

It was probably just a network issue on the Gnutella Network. Try Frostwire if it still does not work correctly. It seems to work fine for me though, just tested it by searching "Five for Fighting." :)
