I answered your similar question here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/gettin...asier-way.html yesterday.

Unfortunately things have changed with upload sites. Things are not as easy as in years past. And the only alternative would be if someone hosted these files.

I am not going to be around forever and once I go, the files I've hosted will vanish also due to not logging into those sites every few months. Be nice if there was some kind of assistance and or alternatives.

Edit: I did have File_Girl's LPE hosted at MediaFire but it was removed in December because they claimed it failed their DMCA rules and someone had complained in the first place. My appeals over January that it was open-source software and did not fall under DMCA failed. It is arguably true it does not fall under the standard DMCA but it obviously failed for 'other' reasons of pressure the MediaFire site was under which they did not disclose to me.

If anybody has installed LimeWire Pirate Edition on Linux or OSX, the installer shows the version as being LimeWire Basic, which is what MetaPirate said in the beginning it was, just modified. But what was said in the media was different, probably to bend a few brain cells with the intention of stepping on certain toes. (Need a headache pill?)
I suppose you believe everything you read in the media right.

You must still have Java 7 on your system. Check your Java control panel and I suspect you will find Java 7 is the 'active' Java on the system. To find the Java control panel in Windows 8, go to Search, type in Control Panel and click on Settings and you will see Java listed. If there is a better way let me know. :D

You can either uninstall Java 7 or use the shortcutfix for using with Java 7. But if you use that fix you should remove it first if you ever wish to uninstall LW.

Windows LimeStart

For anybody interested, I've created a Windows LimeStart. Details here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...insurance.html. This is an advancement on the LW-Java fix, http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...tml#post368755

LimeStart for Windows has two functions: (1) prevents LW deleting the connection file if not used in 30 or more days. (2) Overrides the LW launch problem with Java 7.

If you previously installed the LW5 or LPE Java7 Shortcuts Fix and wish to use LimeStart instead, then you will first need to uninstall them using the Add/Remove Control Panel before installing LimeStart. Also if at any point in time you wish to uninstall LW you will need to remove LimeStart first. Sorry but that's just how Windows is, fussy and shortsighted. :D :cantseeyou:

The LimeStart installer will install Shortcuts replacing the original LW shortcuts and link them instead to the LimeStart program.

The LimeStart installer is hosted at a few locations but on its own here, and can be found where the forum hosts the other LPE and LW5 versions. All LPE and LW 5 versions hosted via the forum are now packaged with the . LW 5 + LPE - LimeStart + Java Fix setup.

Edit 4 June 2013: Probably my last version, I've now set LimeStart to install into its own program folder. It was not necessary for it to be installed into the LW folder. This should also make it easier to uninstall LW and its settings should you wish to at any point. Whilst the LW uninstaller might complain a little, it will probably only be because the original shortcuts were removed.

Windows Requirements for LimeStart:

Minimum System: Windows 95
Maximum allowable CPU: 320 THz
Maximum allowable RAM: 1024 TB
Minimum Monitor size: 0.20 inches (0.5 cm)
Minimum seat size: Stand instead

If necessary, start from scratch. Uninstall LW and start again. Delete the preference files with exception of downloads.dat, library.dat. Return those to the preferences folder at a later time after LW starts to behave properly. Check your add/remove control panel and make sure there's no previous LW-Java fix installed, if yes then remove.

Very frustrated

I discovered a few days ago that I wanted to go back to LPE. I'll save you all the circles I've went around in and just tell you where I'm at now...

I have both Java 6 and 7 installed, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions (so LPE is out of reasons to use the java excuse)
I have uninstalled my previous installed version via the Revo uninstaller, so I am confident that any remants that would normally be left behind were swept away
I downloaded file_girl's package, and I followed the instructions as to the order of installation (the security package, LPE itself, and the Limestart fix)

Both with this and what I had before, when I start it up I get an error that says the following...

"A problem occurred...

LimeWire has encountered an internal error. It is possible for LimeWire to recover and continue running normally. To continue using LimeWire, close this window. If desired, you can click 'Show Bug' to look at the information about the error."

OK, so I do that, here's what I get...which doesn't seem to help much

Code:

LimeWire version 5.6.2
Java version 1.7.0_21 from Oracle Corporation
Windows 7 v. 6.1 on amd64
Free/total memory: 147710472/162201600

LPE starts up anyway, but of course won't connect ever (I was using standard LPE with LPE ConnectFix & May 2013. I left it on ALL NIGHT. Woke up this morning and still hadn't connected)

Another thing with both file_girl's version and the standard version of LPE...when I go to options and attempt to change my download folder, the program just locks up on me, hard. So hard that I have to shut it down via task manager. I don't know if this is relating to the refuse-to-connect problem, but I thought I'd mention it.

As best I can tell, SEP firewall is configured to let limewire traffic through. It allows upnp, and I made a rule to allow limewire.exe though the firewall.

I read that other people get on the gnutella network, and I really want to be able to, also. Please help.

This problem seems to occur when the 64-bit Java 7 was installed or updated last. If you re-install the 32-bit Javas all should be fine after that. Java will say it's already installed but just click ignore or continue with the java installer. You will connect very quickly when you have fixed the java situation.

The reason LW would not connect is it created a new preferences folder called .limewire at the top of your account directory (instead of using the appdata folder) (and its built-in connection file will have been self-deleted). And created a new set of LW download folders also at the same level.

As far as changing the download location from the default, unfortunately this is a bug when running under Java 7. But at least when you reinstall the 32-bit java all will go back to normal and the download folders will be the correct location.

so what do I do about that?

Lord of the Rings May 13th, 2013 11:17 PM

You can go to your home directory and delete the .limewire folder and the newly created LW download folders. Once you fix java, LW will no longer use those folders.

true. Thank you Lord of the Rings, and thank you to the baby Christmas Jesus that Ricky Bobby prays to when saying grace. That finally got me on the network.

Now, to see if there's anything still actually here.

Thanks again.
