LW & ACQ problems...

It is confirmed that LW is done, do to court proceedings...
However, I would like to thank 'File_Girl71' , 'Lord of the Rings' , & 'Stefan Kopac' for all their help & useful information (and more importantly, the accuracy of the info they posted)!!! Good stuff people!
Using the advice/recommendation of another member (I apologize for forgetting who it was), I downloaded Frostwire and it's working great! Not as awesome as Acquisition was, but I'll deal!
Thanks again everyone and have a great weekend!

Acq/LW Out, Frostwire In...

So everyone . . . now that we all know & have confirmed the cessation of Acquisition/Limewire, I'm sure you are asking yourself, "What program do I use now!?"...
I have started using Frostwire as a result of suggestions from others.
So far I have not encountered any problems or glitches, buuuuuuut . . . I must say, if like me, you have been spoiled for years using Acquisition & are used to successfully finding almost every music search you attempt (whether they be a rare artist/song/album), you are going to be somewhat disappointed with the results Frostwire produces :(
I'm assuming there aren't as many members/sharers on FW compared to LW/Acq?
If anyone has more suggestions on a replacement program for Limewire, please let me know! Frostwire will have to suffice for now, but hopefully I can find another program which is equally successful at finding rare searches like Acquisition WAS :bangh:

For rarer files, I use Phex for gnutella network.
Whilst LW is no longer being developed, versions up to 5.5.10 work fine.

I do not know mutch about Acq/Acqlite P2P software...I assume they cannot connect to the Gnutella Network and there for do not give enny search result!!! I do not have Mac my self but i think it is possible to make a fix for Acq or Acqlite! So here we go where is the preferences folder to Acq on Mac? If Acq have that folder i need the full path and name of the folder before i can do somthing about it...Acq is build on the source code off LimeWire so i guess mutch will be the same for Acq as for LimeWire the way i see it!

Have you try this one called Acquisition Lite or as it's name is now Acqlite and it's free opensource software for Mac... Here is the link to it: http://acqlite.sourceforge.net/ Only thing i don't like about FrostWire is it comes bundled with extra stuff, and it set your home page to ask dot com with out ask your permission to do so!

I tried Acquisition trial & it would not connect at all including with added gnut.net file. It seemed to use both the LW prefs folder & a file of its own. OMG I HATE trialware !!!! Now I know why I did not follow with Acquisition with a program that's continually pushing you to 'pay' money, that caps your download speeds after 60 seconds. lol :D Even LW never resorted to that kind of trick. Now i know why the Acquisition developer was so unpopular in the Gnutella community. Well I do know other reasons, no need to publicise them.

I tried Acquilite & it immediately connected to 4 ultrapeers. All of them LW 5.5.8. All search results were junk spam though. Removing ultrapeers definitely helped. Making sure I had either FrostWire, LW 4 or earlier LW 5 ultrapeers connected to me.

Downloads were fine once I got passed the spam in search results. :)

Acquilite does not appear to use LW's prefs folder but a file of it's own. No idea what connection file it uses. It may be hidden, I will need to explore.
I've opened both of Acquisition & Acquilite separate pref files, they only seem to list the download & shared files & locations & program settings, etc.

Have Acqlite enny filters to filter out spam, like Word filter as LW had where you can filter out extension like wma, wmv, au etc...If not i am afaid it is usless for use on Gnutella Network!:D

It does have filters yes. :) Keyword filter is of course very important. I was purely using the program from scratch. There's also an ip blocklist option. The bult in spam filter is next to useless. Probably another learning filter based on LW's. But I have not explored the option yet.

BTW the person who designed the spam filter for LW joined Frostwire in it's early days but then took a several year break. Not sure where he is now. Torrents in LW variants was also his concept. He had his own version of LW that had a lot of new ideas in it. But that was 5-6 years ago. Well before LW ever added them. That was back in the days where a lot of LW's ideas came from users like him, experimenting with their own concepts & adding code to the official code & fixing bugs, etc.
