New Way Of sharing Music

Just jumped on to say it would be a huge step for the file sharing network if you could set up an option to search for full albums instead of indiviual song tracks. What I mean is a way for people to search for zip files that are the entire album. For example make an option for searching for album names and then you could just type in the artist, or the album name and come up with zip files that you can download and upzip. The biggest reason I feel this would be a huge help is because I am able to find hit songs easily, anyone with a brain can do that, but I find it almost impossible to find alot of lesser known songs on albums, I like to make a complete library and not being able to find 2 or 3 songs on each disc makes that very very difficult
~ Thanks

Try searching for ALBW (albumwrap)...you'll find there are quite a few entire albums being shared like that;) Check out the thread below for more info.
how to download a complete album? AlbumWrap/ALBW files

Most people are very wary of zip files, because so many zips are infected!

show what is currently being played in Limewire, to Messenger contacts

I would LOVE to see a feature where you could display in Windows Live Messenger, what you are playing in your Limewire player. There is already a feature to show what is being played in WMP but so many times I have just mentioned offhand that I am playing a particular track, within Limewire (because I cannot use Windows Media Player so I dont import them into it), to one of my Messenger contacts and they have requested it, it would be easier for them to just see what i am currently playing in Limewire than to have to use my IP in Limewire to trawl (ie search user) everything i have.

A shutdown after transfers function, so that your computer would automatically turn off after all downloads and uploads have been completed.

flagging wrong file names

i've read thru page after page of replies to the feature request thread and can't find this. also tried to search it and couldn't find it, so i'm posting. forgive me if it's been requested.
i find so many wrongly labeled files such as wrong artist or wrong song name. can we get a way to flag these? labeling them as junk seems selfish if it only helps me. some are so blatantly wrong. maybe if there are a certain number of flags the developers can look into them.
thank you.

Simple feature: Ability to open the file in the uploads window

...sometimes I want to check the file before I kill it and I fequently need to hunt through my library to find the one that is being uploaded.

I would like you to put player controls in a moveable box.

rameeti May 8th, 2007 07:58 PM

The Block Host should change the icon so that the user knows that that IP is blocked. The Block Host menu item should change to Unblock Host if the host is currently blocked. The Block Host should change to Block Hosts if the user has selected multiple files to block. The Block Host should not ask if the user really wants to block the host. Since they can Unblock, just do as they ask instead of asking do they really want to do it. BTW, the FAQ says that the Mac user should use the Apple key (we call it the Command key) but in reality, the Mac users needs to use the Control key to get the right click effect.

Go-Go

I would appreciate it if limewire added go-go as a category. I know DC is one of the few places that recognizes this music as a separate genre, but for us gogoheads it would make it a lot easier. :bangh::lmao::cheesy:

FTP-SOURCES from magnet links

what i really miss is to be able to add ftp:// links in magnet-links as additional sources.

http works fine but ftp would be really useful.

please consider adding this quick hack in the next version.

so that limewire accepts xs=ftp://hostname.dom/path/file.zip and with auth xs=ftp://username:Password@hostname.dom/path/file.zip from magnet-links.

Filenames that are too long

There's a bunch of folks sharing filenames that are too long for windows to recognize. It's a hassle to get rid of them once they're downloaded (command prompt window with DOS commands is the only way I've found), so most users leave them in the shared folder and they get shared over and over.

It would be really nice if Limewire could recognize and block the sharing of filenames that are longer than windows will allow!

Two new genres would be nice (for music).
Hardcore (punk) and Emo.

Idea for new feature, auto recheck..

When I download Usually I do it late at night when I am sleeping, it would be a very useful feature to have "awaiting sources" check to see if a source has become available. I would say a check every 30 minutes would catch sources that may have come on with out having to manually check it. this would speed up how fast I can complete a Download. I hope to see this feature soon! :)

I hope this is a new suggestion, to be able to right click in Monitor those uploads you wish to block or allow thus adding to Filter Hosts or Allow Hosts.

Thank you, Firedoc

Suggested feature

Hi,

This is my very first post here. I joined last night so I hope I'm posting this the right way. I think it'd be nice if there was a search feature included in the limewire library, like windows media player has, so that you could just type in the name of the song or artist you're looking for in what you've already downloaded. This would save the time of having to look through every single thing in there to find what you want. Not all songs will be listed under the name of the song or artist and unless you keep a written list of the ones that aren't, it can take a while to find. Many of the song have track numbers in front of them.

Beta versions 4.13.0 & onwards have this feature:winklaugh:

If you'd like to try the latest Beta (4.13.11), you'll see an option for download on the usual LW download page.

Thanks birdy but what if I have Limewire Pro? Is there a beta version for that? I don't want to have to give up my paid version since I did pay money for it and I just paid again to update it to the latest Limewire Pro, which doesn't have that search feature the beta ones have.

birdy July 12th, 2007 03:47 AM

You can download the Pro Beta from your Pro personal download page. Below the stable releases, you'll see an option to download the latest Beta;) That Beta will be a Pro version.

Vista Aero / Bandwidth usage graph

Just a couple of suggestions. First of all, offer support for Windows Vista Aero, as whenever I fire up Limewire, it kicks me back to Vista Basic. lso, I would like to see a bandwidth usage graph similar to that of Bit Torrent Beta 6.

Drag881 August 21st, 2007 05:48 PM

(Did a "auto-download" search- nothing seemingly)

Allow for auto-start downloading in succession. Allows one to line up say 3 files enque, d/l #2 begins after #1 finishes, automatically.
This'd allow one to disconnect from LW after searching availibility of files, and just have the days' d/loads auto-start successively, rather than simultaneously. Super-cruise, babe !

That said, someones' blue. Was reading some 2004-ish requests, alot of those complaints went unheeded for yrs.
Mostly Sept now, a very merry Xmas'07 to moi maybe ?

Compatibility Issues

I think that Limewire should be compatible with the most recent version of Java so that people don't have to always have v5.0 update 11.

Feature Request

I think a good addition to Limewire would be a auto shutdown pc when downloads have finished.

MicroSlob August 28th, 2007 08:25 AM

Some finer controls for the filters.

- 1 - Sort blocked IP#'s ascending / decending order would be really handy when my block list gets past 1000+ IP#'s.

- 2 - Auto ban all non LimeWire Pro connections except to one special folder.

Thank you and keep up the great work team LimeWire !!

geno August 29th, 2007 11:35 PM

there needs to be a way to group the results of a music search into the album it came from so that it can be easier to download an entire album with out scrolling through hundreds of songs and playing some sort of guessing game trying to piece together the album.

I would like a 'feature' ... to remain in Limewire, but be able to 'promote' new acquisitions and/or media purchases to "shareable" without leaving LimeWire (or waiting until no one was accessing the shared files in order to do a 'refresh'). I have had 23 different accesses to files at one time, but could not add a couple of dozen new songs because 'refresh' temporarily disconnects anyone transfering files when the refresh is started. (I have enough 90+% complete downloads that never seem to be able to be completed, so do not wish anyone else to be cut off, close to completion of a transfer).

OvenMaster October 10th, 2007 07:48 PM

I'd like the ability to mask my IP address. I dislike having my real IP show up on someone else's Monitor screen or Browse Host tab to enable them to find me. I'd like instead to be able to have a user name or other info show up. It wouldn't stop anyone from browsing my files, but it would short-circuit anyone's ability to log my IP. To me, this is a very big privacy and security breach.

There's no real true technique. Proxies at best. But everywhere you go on the internet you leave your ip footprints. Every site you visit whilst browsing can record it.

Peerless October 10th, 2007 08:38 PM

in the big picture, those that want your IP would be able to get it even if it wasn't obviously displayed...unless as LOTR noted you use a socks5 proxy...

Achin October 15th, 2007 07:37 AM

Not sure if it's available, but I would like to somehow have the option to disable or restrict some of the search. Either via a setting or password protected by a valid administrator. I can find practically anything with LW, but I do not want my child to get full access to it. I only want him to find things such as documents and music. No programs, images or videos.

I limewire installed on one PC, but would like to install it on a second PC which is mostly used by my son and I don't want him having full access to the search in limewire. I would also like to restrict my copy just in case he's using it.

Re-Search

Ok, I got a good one.... I'm sure I am the only one that ever thought of it.... are you ready.... We need a "Re-Search" timer. Ok, let me be more specific, we sit there behind our computers and click the "get more results" tab, over and over. But, we could change that with a "re-search" timer. You could set it to find more results every 5,10,20,30 minutes or even every 2-5-10 hours. This would keep your results coming in, which I think that we can all agree that there is nothing more painful than searching for a few hours for that certain file, finding it, downloading it, and then finding out that the file is mis-titled or wrong.... and then you have to start searching again. If your computer continued to update and search for your specific file as different users come and go throughout the day.

Wow! that is a great idea!!! Take care everyone!!!

Requeries 1 (click blue link to read)(, & also Requeries 2 (click blue link to read) ie: Not good for the network. :)
As it is, LW will auto re-search incompletes once per hour I think it is.

Icon please

Hi all,

I love Limewire, and I have zero complaints about it,
in fact, it's so great that I use it all the time.
Thank you so much for developing this cool program.

That said, It would be nice to have an icon for it.
I'm a Fedora Linux user, so a .PNG file would work for me.
I'm currently borrowing an icon, but it doesn't really fit the program, you know?
This program deserves it's own icon and branding, IMO.
Thanks, and keep up the amazing work.

a11_fakery November 2nd, 2007 12:55 AM

i'm not sure it's been mentioned yet but seeing as you can now download torrents through limewire wouldn't it make sense to have selective downloading. You know how when you open the torrent in BitTorrent or uTorrent it comes up with a screen that enables you to select which file you want from a torrent. Say if someone has put up a band's discography and you only want one album out of say 5 you just select those files that are in the album and unselect the ones you don't want.

Windwos November 2nd, 2007 05:37 AM

Favorite Host

I don't think it's possible now, and i think it's a useful function:
when you explore a host, you should be able to put it on a list or mark it as favorite. then you can check the host you're interested in when they got something new. You don't need to remember their ip too:idea:

ukbobboy01 November 2nd, 2007 06:29 AM

You know Windwos, I like your idea, that and being able to save your favourite search (keyword) criteria.

However, if your favourite "Host" changes his IP address, for whatever reason, you would no longer be able to find and/or search your host, but it still is a good idea.

A method for filtering fake files

When searching video files (especially newer movies) the search results in massive amounts of auto generated junk files that match existing good files in their size. I keep hoping to find some pattern to the hosts or the 32 character code identifying these files (ya, I don't have a good technical name for the code thingy...bitprint?). Anyway, maybe someone with a better understanding of this system could figure out a clever way to identify these fake file generators and filter them out from results. I'm sure my idea isn't original, and perhaps not even useful; but I just keep thinking that overpeers, mediasentry, and mediadefender must have some recognizable pattern and if their results could be prevented or retaliated against in some way, the utility of limewire would be greatly increased.

i have a little feature request. A filter for movies so you don't have the 277,0 Kb fake results anymore. i sujest a filter for minimum size. If we search for something then you can select files that are greater than 600 Megabytes for movies or so.

pm1online January 2nd, 2008 06:38 AM

i noticed some incoming search request are "avi" i think thase are bots that copy the name of the files and drop fake results.
And the 277,0 Kb files are only mpg sized
