It should carry on from where you left off... It Does for me... go to Tools>Options>Saving>Basic.

Check to see what number is in the Incompleated files box. If it's 0 or something stick it up. Downloads should then resume when you reboot.

hope that solves problem.

Lord of the Rings July 19th, 2006 03:35 AM

If LW or system crashes or isn't shutdown properly, previously incompletes would refuse to load & forcing them to resume would result in starting from zero %. But that's not the case with LW 4.12.3 as it can now resume from where it was. I'm not sure if this is what a couple of you were talking about ... but finally this issue has been seen to.

Fluffytme, you can already downld to specific file type folders. See How to Change download location (click on link). Also torrents will be in the next betas.

-For OS X: All file details (Artist, Album, Length, Bitrate, etc.) available in tooltip in downloads pane as in search pane. iTunes truncates filenames when it arranges files in the Finder, so I have song names in my download pane with no clue as to the artist etc.

social justice

Hi Limewirers,

I have just downloaded your program, and I have an idea. Under media types, you should have a 'social justice' type that people can search. This is an area that displays home-made media streams (from cell phone cameras, digital cameras etc.) from current events (specifically, armed conflict, war-crimes, social injustices, etc.). It is a bit morbid, but it would be a powerful tool for social justice.

Kind Regards,

Stevan.

That the audio option bitrate be on the top like Licence type or genre, so you don't have to look for it under More search options.

MonacoMan103 July 26th, 2006 06:51 PM

One feature I would like to see from Limewire, besides from new modernized interface and skins, is a rewind and fastforward option in your limewire player. It could be by simply holding down the next and back buttons.

P.S. Windows Vista is going to released in early 2007, are there any plans to have a Vista-compatible Limewire?

An all files indicator (all, not just shared)

I think there needs to be a indicator for how many files you have. Similar to the "shared files" number not just shared files. ALL FILES.

Select audio device

For the player, it would be nice to have an option to select the output audio device. I use 2 sound cards, one mostly done for professional voice work, but the other is the one I use for players like the one that's included on Limewire. It would be nice to be able to play Limewire through the same sound card I use on Winamp. Currently I use Winamp through headphones...I have to use my soundcard that runs through a mixer as my default audio device, otherwise one of my important audio programs won't work. I can't change Limewire's settings...so that leave me to have to use Winamp as a player and it takes MUCH longer for it to come up initially.

I think you'll find that a lot of people run two or more sound cards, depending on how elaborate the speaker setup is. I do.

Thanks,

Gil

auto search & auto resume

an option that makes limewire search for more hosts when an unfinished download that is in the Awaiting Sources stage is next in line, then resuming the download as soon as the search is done(closing the search tab as well). so, by this i mean the option should include downloads that are Awaiting Sources in the dl queue. about the resource issues of such an option, possible solutions would be allowing the user to set up number of re-searches before finally giving up on a file, or specifying a period of time to wait before searching for more sources.

i've had a lot of experiences where i select an unfinished download to "Find more Sources", but then it doesn't find any. but when i do a manual search and then try "Finding more Sources", it quickly finds hosts. but manual searches can get tiring, so automated searches would be a lot more convenient.

My Feature Requests

I've been playing around with LimeWire OSX for about a year now, and I love it but there are definately some improvements that are badly needed!

New Features:

1) Add a button for the "Search More" -> REPEAT SEARCH and GET MORE RESULTS functions, please and thank you! It sucks using the Contextual Menu via keyboard & mouse combo to issue each command for us Mac users with the standard one button mouse!

2) Please DEFAULT the Ultra-Peer option OFF for 1st time installs. This would be the number 1 turn off for Mac users with dial-up modems that end up waiting 2-3 minutes for a command to work and waiting endlessly for messages because their bandwidth & memory threads have been flooded. Most never use Limewire again after their experience with the spinning cursor going on endlessly. The second biggest LimeWire OSX complaint would the slow start-up time. But that would strictly be a mute point because of the Java backbone of LimeWire OSX, it's always slow!

3) Is there any hope of adding some mini controls or buttons to the MONITOR window instead of forcing us to constantly keep changing the settings from the preferences? For example a mini bandwidth slider, a small edit box for the slots and user amounts. And to take it even further, a BAN or BLOCK button for downloaders you don't like. I personally hate the losers with nothing but lame PORNO ads named to whatever filename you were searching for.

4) Another P2P program on the Mac OSX side called Poisoned has the ability to not only connect to the Gnutella network, but it can also connect to the giftd , Ares , FastTrack and OpenFT networks. As far as I know all 5 network types appear to very similar and are Gnutella friendly. Is there any hope of LimeWire doing the same in the future?

5) In the CONNECTIONS window, is there any chance of adding a speed indicator for the "Ultra-Peers" ? Currently my only option is to browse each one manually and then remove all the slow ones. And to expand even further, could there be a preference setting or checkbox to automatically only allow fast Ultra-Peer connections. I've noticed by experimenting and only keeping the fast Ultra-Peers connections that were using LimeWire Pro produced the fastest and most reliable searches for me.

And thanks for a great program that only get's better each update!

Save to computer feature request

A feature that allows us to transfer the file to our computer would be helpful. We could then store it in Windows Media, or make a cd out of it. I can't do anything with it right now. But, if we could just be able to save/ move the files into a folder on our comp instead of in Limewire, then I would be grateful. I'm trying to make a cd, and I got referred to limewire. But I cant move the files to be able to make the cd.

birdy August 29th, 2006 04:21 PM

Tools > options > saving will show you the location of your saved folder. If you go to the LW library, click on Saved Files then Explore... your saved folder will open for you;) You can move files from this folder to wherever you want!!

Well a virus reporting plug-in would be pretty good...that may files reported as viruses can be scan by the network and if they are found as a virus they would be deleted and the creators I.P. traced... so also I think it would be a good idea for the files to have An I.P. STAMP on them or like limewire automaticly enscribes the files with an I.P. stamp so that if they are ever report as viruses,trojans,worms,ad-ware,hacks etc... they can be traced to their originators...for example you could trace everyone that has limewire pro. bootleg...you should remove those files off the network...because i know that you arent happy about that are you? all anybody has to do is search limewire pro. in the free version and downlaod it and install... another good idea is to put an activation key on limewire pro so that people will really have to buy it...

ok that right there has already been done...if your gonna post a plug in of some sorts ask around to see if its not already made...

To reduce storage space, and confusion. When dubbing a file into a second language can we put English on the Left channel and the second Language, Spanish, French, Etc. on the Right channel? This gives 2 user groups the same file.

Sleepless September 20th, 2006 05:08 PM

The moment people turn uploadslots to zero, the files in the library should become red, number of shared files become zero and none of the files show up in searches anymore, also browse host should not show any files if they can't be uploaded anyway.

Merging files with exactly same byte

Basically i suggest merging files with the exact number of BYTES (Would suggest "actual size" rather than "size on disk"). I'm not sure whether this is already being done. Let's say 2 ppl download the same thing from the same website, but will their files be listed as separate when searched? If that is so, then essentially their two files are exactly the same so they should be merged.

sort by file size

i *thought* that the option to sort search results by file size used to work correctly, but the current version (4.12.6) gets mixed up with KB and MB, and so smaller files (e.g. 1,234 KB) will sort ahead of bigger files (e.g. 123 MB). (i'm using limewire 4.12.6 on mac os x 10.4, by the way.) i find that sorting by size is the easiest way to avoid the spambots.

i hope i am posting this in the right place...

Might want to let people know that a quick way of "clearing" things is to add the items in the screenshot to Eraser for "On-Demand" cleaning (this does not, of course, include any files you've decided to keep).

(View some of those with TextView sometime).

Every item on the list gets re-created anew - empty - after erasure, and the erasure process itself doesn't affect program operation (of course, you don't erase any of that stuff while the program is running).

The album download button

I enjoy having limewire but there is one thing that is like a pest. In bearshare, there is the option where you can download the whole album in one click. I would like to see something like that come to limewire. I would like to see maybe a "discover" or search thing where you can search for whole albums/downloads.

Block upload per file per country.

Wouldn't it be great to be able to block upload per file per country?

I don't have time right now to look if it would be tech possible.

Perhaps you're not double-clicking the size column & only clicking it once (only clicking it once will arrange largest files at bottom & smallest at top); Arrange search results by size (click on link). I also use LW 4.12.6 in OSX 10.4 & it works fine for me. I use it all the time. It also works fine in the download window. :)

Remember my searches

Having used Poison and Cabos to a great degree before they took a dump, I really like their feature of remembering my search names upon each re-launch/restart.

With Limewire, if I search for, say, Neil Young, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Kinski, and then close the application, when I re-launch it, I have to re-enter these search terms again. There should be a way to save them (after all, what are the preference files for??)

Another thing is when searching by "type" of music file, in the left hand filter column, I often see wma, mp3's, and mp4's. Now since I use iTunes, I cannot use wma, but I can use the other two. Yet I seem to be unable to select mp3 and mp4 simultaneously. Maybe in the future we can command-click on each to search for both simultaneously.

Thanks

Integration with antiviruses!!!

Maybe the developers could make an option to recompose the parts of the file being downloading, and make it analyzabel for popular Av's like AVG, or Norton i guess, that should help making downloads more relyable and effective, and add an option to the file rating: "Virus!!!"

My thought

I think LimeWire should allow you to search by composer. I'm a huge Danny Elfman fan, and want to find things that he's composed.
I could've sworn that there once was a "composer" search field, but it must have been removed, because I can't find it anymore. Please bring it back. Thank you. :)

Simple Menus Improvement

I just want an item in the file menu to close the program entirely.
Rename "Close" to "Hide" or "Minimize to Tray" then add the "Exit" and "Exit After Transfers" items.

As of now the only way to actually exit is with the tray menu, which can be annoying.

Filetype Filter and File Recognition

You can already ignore .HTM/.HTML, .VBS, and .WMV/.ASF filetypes. I want a few more checkboxes, or at least one for those stupid .MOV files. As for the File Recognition system, here's what I had in mind: Limewire has the option to "Lookup File with Bitzi". I was wondering if Limewire could use this as a database for the bitprints of files on the network. This way, you could block the file and not just that host's version of the file. This could help get rid of those annoying spam files that are on millions of different hosts. You block the file, not the host. I'm not sure if something like this has been proposed. I've checked the list, so either it hasn't been proposed or it just hasn't been posted on the list yet. That's all I want for now.

Lord of the Rings December 30th, 2006 04:02 AM

Keyboard shortcut for accessing the Options window on windows. Similar to OSX's , although that's rather generic for almost all OSX apps to reach the preferences. Certainly on windows it would save the 2 steps of reaching Options. And also for Linux if it has the same access as windows to get to Prefs.

And consideration of a keyboard shortcut for connecting & disconnecting for all OS's.

Ed91 January 7th, 2007 08:00 AM

So I was mindlessly staring at a download, like when most of my ideas are born and I had a little thought about what bugs me most: network content.

The plan goes something like this -

Every time a user upgrades Limewire, it searches through the shared folder for files known to be junk and if any are found Limewire alerts the user and gives them a list of the junk files with check boxes next to them. The user can then decide to remove the files or not depending on if they actually want the files.

Like an optional little shared folder check up and spring clean with every upgrade.

I haven't really thought it through properly but thought I'd spit it out before something shiny distracts me..

Xenocide January 14th, 2007 07:06 PM

Filtering Comments

I have noticed very much junk turning up in limewire. Sometimes lamers add comments to their junk that says "not related to: (your search)." That way their junk turns up in your search. Having filtering that excludes results that have keywords that are in the comments would dramatically reduce this type of junk. I would suggest that filtering the comments would also be an optional feature, so you can choose to filter them or just the main file name.

Filter files by minimum and maximum size.

A feature I would really like added is the ability to filter searchs by the minimum and maximum size of search result files. Every other P2P program I have ever used has this ability. I'm just sick of looking for a medium to large size file, and having my search slowed down and cluttered by thousands of tiny ones.

Skins

I would like to ask if it would be possible to create a skin for limewire that looks like the Napster Skin, I like the look of napster but i dont like the program, if limewire had a skin you could download that looked like the napster layout it would be great. Just a suggestion though. Thanks.

Yellow line at top of search, might be nice for new users, but most people must know where to find LW homepage to get fresh download of LW. Or is 4.12.11, I try now intended for VISTA users who by now getting useed to restrictions?

Dark Guy February 2nd, 2007 02:25 PM

Taking advantage of what you're sayin' about Vista, rumors say that Ms addopted P2P tech for the sending files on LAN's

MrMisty February 2nd, 2007 04:51 PM

I'm relatively new to P2P, some of these ideas I've noticed have already been listed. For one, 'Limit number of slots a particular file can take'. I noticed that was on the 'list' since 2004? Moments after downloading a 'gem', a 600+ meg file, 15 users were instantly downloading it. Since this is a several hour u/l, everything else I have was basically unavailable. This one feature, or lack thereof, has made getting this file, and others like it, a real problem as very few hosts want to dedicate their systems to this one file for 1/2 the day per user of what will end up taking several weeks until this file gets around. But no one wants to host it for this reason, It is probably one of the most important features that desperately needs implementation. IMHO

As a result, this and many others like it, are rare finds. What's more, not a single Limewire user was connected. Bearshare, Snaz-illa (?), morp-somthing was scarfing up all my bandwidth. All of their clients were like sticky magnets, I'd kill their uploads and they would almost instantly re-connect. I was happy to see that even though I selected this file as no longer share-able, it allowed the uploads to continue until finished. It really irked that I couldn't browse any of their systems, so how could they see mine?

No, but perhaps a 'Reserve ___ slots for Limewire Users: (0-15)' 15 means you'd only let Limewire users connect.

No, that's a programmers question for sure ;-) (and I resemble that remark). If you get a particular version that works, the features or options you use work well, leave well enough alone. You shouldn't force people to upgrade to what may be a buggie version just to get a slot.

Hmmm, this would be tricky. Some files are rather large, besides if there are u/l slots available, does it matter? Maybe he'll keep the files 'shared' and get more hosting,

Just a few first-timer rambings, ignore if needed.

Allow disabling of torrent handling

I appreciate that a lot of requests for the inclusion of torrent support have been acknowledged and that the feature has been added. However, I am someone(and I am sure there are plenty more like me) that prefers to use another dedicated torrent program that delivers significantly better results. I love using LW for certain things but I think it would also make sense to allow the torrent handling function to be enabled/disabled.

The main reason I say this is because LW keeps steeling the default setting away from my other program(uTorrent). If it were enabled by default at install, but then had a disable function, this would keep everybody happy.

Thanks and keep up the great work.

I would really love an option to filter out certain file formats in the Search engine. For example, I don't have Quicktime installed on my computer and really don't intend to. I'd love to be able to exclude all Quicktime files when I do a search. They just clutter up my options.
