Search definitions & Fakes/Spoofs Exclusion Capability

I hope this is in the correct thread and that I am not re-inventing something someone else has already defined ... If so, I apologise.

1. Searches: In the search parameters, (eg artist, or album, or both) one can enter the requirements but the result is a massive overload of results which seem to bear no relation to the search definition. For example, to search under Music, for an album "Guitar Player" one gets an enormous number of non-applicable results.

Be very nice to enter a defined text string, and have LW ONLY report on those results.

2. Fakes: If one types in a search parameter, (eg: Hank Marvin or Elmer Bernstein) under Music, one will get a miriad 119.0kb results. I would like to be able to define by file-type (eg mp3) a minimum size - eh, 250kb. Anything less than that, screen it out. The same logically applies for other filetypes in the setup area.

Cheers all. Thanks for the development.

Manage Genre List

I would like to not only reduce the Search/Genre list to what I use, but also be able to add those that may not be listed.

Nordy January 4th, 2008 12:04 PM

Search on file type

I would like to be able to search on Type, where Type could be mp3 or wma or whatever. As my Search/Type only lists: Audiobook, Other, Song or Speech (none of which show up in any of my search results). If these choices are valid, they are labeled incorrectly.
When I input a search query criteria, I expect it to be labeled the same as it's respective field name. And the choices in that search option should be reflected in the respective query field results.

I would like to see a genre for Audio Books. It is very hard at present to search for books by a specific author and/or title because the search brings up all music etc. that is remotely connected. Thanks

Computer Overload

I just upgraded to the newest version and hoped my problem would be gone.:D

But not so.

Frequently Limewire uses between 97% and 100% of the CPU while it actually seems to be doing nothing. There seems to be an endless loop of code somewhere that is very hard to break out of.

Apart from that I think Limewire is :super:

Sharing a network drive

It seems the new "anti-identity theft features" disallow sharing a whole drive. In my opinion, this is pointless. I guess its to protect the layer 8 challenged who will lazily share their entire C drive so they don't have to figure out where they stored their files, leading to their browser cookies and financial files and whatever else being advertised to the world. However, these people could just as easily share their "My Documents" tree, and then save a text file with the passwords to all their financial websites in there, so it wouldn't be much help to them. On top of that, there are drives other than C in the world- I happen to have 4 network drives, one of which is dedicated to music, nothing else. So to not be able to share an entire drive is silly, I know what's on my drives and what can be shared and what can't, why put an artificial obstacle in my way? Blocking the root of C is reasonable. Blocking the root of all drives is unreasonable. Or at least make it an option that blocks by default, but can be overridden, perhaps with scary warnings to dissuade those who don't fully understand the consequences of their actions.

I think "Motown" and "Surf" should be included on the Genre dropdown in the search mode Thank you

Searching TAB

For crady sake, improve your searching in LIMEWIRE:mad:
Add in the searching tabs among pictures, videos, programs and music, for
example torrent, iso, nrg images or other extension like in Shareaza.:rolleyes_2:
And if youwould remove so much virus download(if you can) and to remove 0 peers downloads.
IF you change that LIMEWIRE will be best of best:D.

JMSASRA April 26th, 2008 07:21 AM

NNTP support in limewire would make limewire the holy grail for usenet users, even the best Binary newsreaders today are horrible looking and single-minded. A search facility for usenet would be good as well.

If this is too much to ask, then at least consider including NZB capabilities at first. :)

Sleepless April 26th, 2008 07:30 AM

Have them fix the BitTorrent support first before giving them other ideas to screw it up with.

I love Books as much as my limewire but when I look for music in albw Or it,s big brother albumwrap I sometimes get a mix of 20% music and 80% books. Can this be changed?

Splash Screen

Please modify the startup splash screen so that it isn't the front-most window which prevents switching to other programs while Limewire boots. Thanks.

Basketballhero75 June 8th, 2008 07:28 PM

I dont know if this is possible, but maybe there could be a way to make it so that once a file from limewire is done downloading, it can automaticly sync with iTunes. That would be great

ddude2004 June 13th, 2008 06:33 PM

I hope that this has not been mentioned,
It would be nice to be able to prioritize your downloads or select the one's you would like to download first over others.
also when one cancels a download one should have the option of deleting it, moving it to the recycling bin right away or keeping it in the incomplete folder instead of just keeping it in the incomplete folder
lastly when it tells you that the file name is already taken could there be the option to always cancel
thanks

Vegan June 14th, 2008 08:04 PM

Something that does not seem to be mentioned here, is the ability to create a torrent file for posting on a web site from a shared folder or selected files in Limeware. Such a feature would make sharing groups of files much more easy.

And why not bolt on support for searching other P2P client networks such as eMule etc.

riplock July 13th, 2008 09:41 AM

how do i add more genres at music section? i want to add "christian rock" and some others!

Vegan July 13th, 2008 12:53 PM

Easy, open up iTunes or WinAMP and change them to whatever you want. Lime just reads the tags.

riplock July 13th, 2008 01:59 PM

i don't think i expressed myself clear enough! i mean music genres for LimeWire audio search section! i want to search for "Christian Rock" for example ! how do i add this genre there?

Vegan August 11th, 2008 12:19 PM

search for Christian Rock in the title. Change the column view to show genre and you will be able to see what you want.

guerra922 August 13th, 2008 08:52 PM

Hello everyone new at this! when downloading limewire i get a error message saying Error opening file for writing c:\program files\limewire\limewire.exe click abort ,retry or ignore. Then i tried using another browser but i got an arror message that said windows cannot access the specified device, path, or files. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. What is going on anyone know?

Cleanup names for sorting

When I search for music by artist, eg. "John Smith", a typical result might include these tracks:

Once Upon a Time
John Smith - Once Upon a Time
03 Once Upon a Time
etc

I want to sort the list by name to see unique tracks but this is impossible.
So I'd like an Option to cleanup the name, eg:
1) Remove artist name from track name
2) Remove track number from track name
And a final option that would then be a bonus would be the ability to remove duplicates.

Thanks

Search --> Audio --> Genre --> Latin

Split or Add new Genre to Audio Search.

Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Cha-Cha-Cha, Guaguanco, Reggaeton.

ALPOH January 17th, 2009 09:31 PM

I would very much like a Windows Media Player-Type control beside the system tray for seeking, volume, changing the song, etc. This way you wouldn't need to open up LimeWire in order to do that. :)

Blackhorse 70V January 17th, 2009 11:06 PM

Welcome Alpoh!

The LW media player is often the subject of complaints here; I don't know of anyone who would recommend using it.

Windows Media Player has the option to shrink to the bar, and surely there are many other free players that will do just what you want. I recommend searching majorgeeks, download, or tucows (all are .com).
I often use a simple little player called 1by1 that you might like; find it free @ above sites.

I don't expect LW developers to put much, if any, effort into improving the player.

ALPOH January 17th, 2009 11:12 PM

Thank you! I got 1by1 and it's absolutely what I was looking for. I really hate having to open up LimeWire every time I want to change the song. Thank you again!

Remoc January 17th, 2009 11:26 PM

Something else you may consider Alpoh, is making a Shortcut of your Shared/Saved Folder to the DeskTop. This way you won't have to Open LW at all to listen to your music. :)

You can post feedback about the new version over at this other forum, there's a section for LW 5: LimeWire Forums

You're more likely to get a response from developers there;)

They did toss out many of the long time functions in LW 5, they felt nobody really wanted them, especially those with simple minds who just want a simple program. Such loss of functions makes the program a little erm ... lacking in a way doesn't it. :) Uploads hold much less importance now. Identification of viruses is not important now apparently. Connecting with people who might be online but you might not find in a search results is no longer important. Chatting is irrelevant now. I'll leave it there I think, there are more functions they cut of course.

monkey_19 February 19th, 2009 07:20 PM

Holy Crap, I DETEST how LimeWire 5 doesn't have drag and drop capabilities. It makes transferring to anything a pain in the neck!

Lord of the Rings February 19th, 2009 07:52 PM

Last I heard, 'some' of the old functions might be re-introduced. :)

bstrader8 February 22nd, 2009 08:03 AM

Make A Limewire App

Limewire developers should start to consider creating an app for ipod touch or iphone. Basically, it would be able to do the same things as limewire on the computer just draw them from people iphones or ipod touchs. And instead of allowing people to trade programs, you could let them trade apps. Overall, the technology in this world is increasing in a way that soon computers will be outdated. Now people are using their iphones, ipod touchs, and cell phones for internet and other things. Limewire needs to get more with the program.

List of Feature Requests

== Things I hate about the new version (please change):

It doesn't seem like you can decide the maximum number of searches anymore. It just seems to cut off at some point (around 10?).

You can only see about 3! search tabs at once, after which you have to click that drop-down to see the other searches. This seems minor but is probably my least favorite part of the new versions.

You can't right-click a tab and "repeat search." In fact, I don't see any way to repeat a search without closing the tab and re-typing the search term.

== New things I'd like to see:

I'd love "repeat ALL searches" and "get more results for ALL searches" options.

== Note: This is my first post, so I'm sorry if these requests are duplicates or are in the wrong spot.

Thanks.

Thank you. I'll try that.

warnbb April 9th, 2009 07:26 PM

I would love to be able to save playlists. My library is quite extensive, its a pain to have to go through it every time I want to listen to music. Also, I like to open my playlists in my windows media player because if I have any other windows open, the limewire media player skips

Lord of the Rings April 9th, 2009 07:30 PM

I believe playlists will be returning in the next release of LW 5, however that might not be for another couple of months. ;)
Alternative in meantime is to downgrade to LW 4. Lime Wire » Download Out-Of-Date Installers, which did have a save playlist option. :)

warnbb April 9th, 2009 07:33 PM

I am so happy you told me about the downgrade. I didn't think that was possible. Color me happy, I can jam again. Thankyou.

grampy17 December 3rd, 2009 07:02 AM

I don't remember whether I raised this concern/made this suggestion before.
I wish there were an option in Limewire whereby users could make corrections to song titles and artist names. There are a lot of songs with simple errors in their titles, songs that are identified as a completely different songs, and songs with incorrect performers' names attached. I recall once being able to contact a host and informed him/her of the errors on some tracks he/she was sharing. He/she responded, "I don't know what they are. I just download and share." Actually, he/she admitted he/she had never even heard of the songs I was talking about. Makes for a lot of wasted time downloading incorrect stuff.

I have been buying your software, I want to connect as an ultrapeer not a leaf

birdy April 12th, 2010 05:35 AM

You can connect as an UP providing that you...

- have a reasonably fast connection

- aren't firewalled (tools > advanced tools & you'll see whether you're behind a firewall)

Staying connected to the network for a long time (high uptime) can also help.

If you meet that criteria, the network will choose you to be an UP when UPs are needed :)

If you're showing as behind a firewall, you can give us your system details & we might be able to help out with that issue: System details - help us to help you -> Provide these details when you post!!!

There isn't a great advantage to connecting as an UP... you might see a small difference in search results (as UPs connect to a greater number of other UPs & leaves than a leaf). But on the other hand, in my experience UPs tend to see fewer uploads than a leaf.

Both help the network in different ways... UPs by devoting bandwidth to handling more search traffic (& shielding leaves from unnecessary traffic) & leaves by devoting bandwidth to uploads.

mrogers April 12th, 2010 05:45 AM

Hi Caissa,

When you select a tab, the search box is automatically filled in with the search words from that tab, so you can just hit Enter to repeat the search.

Hope this helps,
Michael
