Maybe. At any rate..... I hope LW gets the bugs worked. I can't be a host with Limewire the way it's working now. So I spent $18.88 on a program I'm not happy with....no big deal. I always seem to learn things the hard way.

This is not a bug, it's a feature. You can turn off the browse feature. If you want to know why I'd suggest searching the internet; there are good reasons for it. Blocking people who have the browse feature turned of would necessitate a search for every connection, clogging the network. Also, due to the way the network works, this would probably result in the network being effectively split in two, between those with the browse feature turned off and those with it turned on. Clearly, this is not a good thing, especially for those with the browse feature turned on, since they appear to be in the minority.

I'm using the Limewire Pro Beta and I haven't seen anywhere within the program the option of switching browse on/off. Would you be kind enough to point me in the direction of a forum that has this browse topic.
I guess I could use Google and type "Limewire browse issues". At any rate, I'm not meaning to come off as a jerk about this browse issue. I just don't like the idea of: "I can see you, but you can't see me" bit.

So...I just won't leave my Limewire running 24/7 as I had intended to do.

Interesting. I did a search of limewire browse issues and it points back to this discussion I started.

You're forgetting that LimeWire is not the only program on the network, there are others as well, and many of them do have that option. Also there have been development editions or forks of LimeWire in the wild that had that option. Perhaps two more things you should know: the browse host feature has been buggy in the past when LimeWire would send a malformed request packet so e.g. no results would be returned, and turning it off in some situatations cannot guarantee that no filelists are sent over the network, since if you connect to an ultrapeer, your filelist are sent anyway.

I'm really not concerned about Limewire anymore. I have decided thats it in my best interested not to use it as a host as I had great intentions of doing, but once I seen someone could connect to my computer and start downloading files I clearly removed from "Sharing", It was time for me to stop using it as a host. I assume someone had an old "filelist" that allowed them to get to the file/s I had removed from sharing.
It's also my understanding there are no refunds for this program and thats alright too. It seems like I have a bad habit of learning things the hard way and it ALWAYS seems to come out of my pocket. Such is life!

You can turn off 'Browsing' in tools/Options,go to 'sharing' remove all files/folders with the 'remove' button, untick share finished downloads box. Go to '' Uploads'' option, reduce bandwidth to zero, make sure ' allow partial sharing' box is unticked (often a reason for sharing things you may not want to) Go to 'Slots' and set to zero both uploads per person and max upload slots, and I bet NO one can upload anything from you ! if any of these settings are not correct,it may result in some of what you are complaining about. some are so paranoid they will not share,it's a personal choice, although it goes against everything that the internet and freedom stands for. get some education around this, and decide what you want to do,really there is so much information and help on these forums if you try. If you worry about who is sniffing around in your computer, get yourself protection use a packet sniffer to track in and out movements etc....
balance in all things said the tightrope walker !
Good luck
