I really wasn't trying to offend.........peace. |
Hi guys! I ran a test on my internet speed and it's 333 kilobits per second. However, at most LimeWire downloads at 30 KB/s. I think I've done everything in this post but nothing seems to have happened. I'm running XP - can anyone help? |
heebie, LimeWire shows speeds in kilobytes, not kilobits. 8 bits = 1 byte, so 333 kilobits(Kbs) = 41.6 kilobytes(KB/s). Some of your speed is used for overhead(sending bits of information needed to recieve the file). So the speed of 30 KB/s is pretty close to what you should be getting. For more info, just google "bits and bytes". Edit: A couple thing you can do to help improve your speeds a little. In LW go to Tools>Options>Speed, and disable ultrapeer capabilities, then go to Tools>Options>Uploads>Basic, and tick beside auto clear completed uploads, and run LW minimized in the system tray. These settings may improve your speeds a little. Be sure to click apply after making changes. |
Hi, please if you could help.. Hi guys, I kinda got to this thread while trying to find an answer to my downloading problems. Apparently, this dude has the same problems as me. I used to download up to 90kbps, but usually bordered around 30-40kbps with 8 host(my max). For the past month or two, this speed has reduced dramatically, ranging from 0(most of the time), to 3 or 4kbps. As such, a download for a 5mb file which used to take me less than a minute, now takes me almost 40 mins. There has been no changes to my ISP, nor my subscription plan, and I believe they're advertising surfing speeds of up to 12MBPS(http://www.starhub.com/online/maxonl...riceplan.html). If you do visit their site, i'm on the Premium plan). "MaxOnline Premium at a monthly fee of $79.80 (w/GST) per month Offering you download speeds of up to 12Mbps (12,000Kbps) and upload speeds of up to 384Kbps." I really don't believe it to be a problem with my isp(unless of course they fiddled with the p2p speeds as mentioned earlier in this thread), neither have I made any drastic changes to my desktop setup(i'm on OSX btw). Please, can someone help me??? |
Sounds like Starhub are throttling p2p (ISPs don't always tell their customers the truth;)). http://wiki.filesharingweb.de/index....hrottling_ISPs http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...hlight=starhub http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?t=88771 |

I did a speed test, and it showed i have a 4.72Mbps d/l and 386kbps upload speed and yet when i attempt to download something be it a song or video im getting 0-5kbps which cant be right can it? Some stuff they may help about my pc OS- Windows XP home edition Firewall/Antivirus - Norton 2006 2gig RAM 136gig Free space Im using the basic version, im not to great on all the technical aspects so if anyone is able to help but needs more info i will try to get it, all the tests in the thread have been ok like the port not being blocked or the firewall stopping the connection. Any help would be greatly appreciated :) |
Download a file (any one will do) from here & see what speeds you get http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml Can you answer these questions please (sorry for any repeats of what you've already given but it's great for us to have all the details together;)) System details - help us to help you |
Every time I download a song, I get a message "file is corrupted. Do you want to proceed?" How do I avoid this because each song only play the first 8 seconds. |
I keep getting "file is corrupted" after every download. How do I stop this and get a good download? |
If your using the LW player, try using a different player( VLC media player is a good one). LW's player tends to skip, pop, crack, ect. Otherwise they're probably spam/fake files. Have a look through this thread for tips on finding music: How to find music |
