mymusicinc. I came here looking for a different subject and learn I've been duped by the same company. I called the 908-248-3113. I'll wait and see if I hear anything, it didn't have any company name to it though. I came across their site from gateway rewards.com when I thought, great, I'll try that to get a year's worth of Starbucks, and gateway rewards is another scammer too. I'm angry about this of course, they keep emailing me too (mymusicinc.), but this is 3-4 months ago I did this, but I'll report it to my bank as fraud. Don't see much else I can do. If I may ask, how do I know which songs and movies I download are safe to share as I don't want lawyers and attoryneys knocking on my door for illegal sharing. I have copied a lot of stuff into other folders on my computer, but I don't know if all can be put up to share, how can I be safe in the sharing, I want to share without problems, please help. Thanks, pantherseyes |
Well, just ask your favourite artist (or fartist for short) whether she's OK with sharing the stuff: http://www.britneyspears.com/ |
Dear Pantherseyes Everything the scam site told you were lies, that means everything you thought you were downloading legally you were downloading illegally. You would be better off just trying to get your money back rather than trying to rescue anything beneficial from the site you purchased your “free” copy of LW from. After all, these scam sites (and there are well over a hundred of them) were specifically designed to part the gullible from their money. Next time, be more careful (less eager). UK Bob |
scam sites yet another victim typing LimeWire into google and finishing up with an unloadable 360Share file. Not to worry though,so i thought, then ended up buying a 2 yr limewire membership,(now know they dont exist). But what the hell, loved it so much I bought Pro! Seriously though,Im new to this game and it seems quite easy to get shafted by these sites.Much wiser now.Cheers folks |
yeah, I bought the same thing here on the limewire website. The 18.88 deal and I have no membership, no support and the download isn't even limewire pro. How can they validate this? |
Quote:
There is NO membership for LimeWire. You either download the free version or you pay 18.88 for the PRO version and 6 months of free updates. Membership is not required. |
WOW! DID YOU READ THIS??? All I gotta say I these guys are slick. I got lucky when I found my copy of Limewire.. I searched and searched. Found a couple of these idiot paysites and said to myself there was NO WAY I was paying for this thing. A friend at work told me about it and he NEVER mentioned anything about memberships. So I kept up until I found the REAL Limewire download site. Tried the free version and really liked it.. so I bought the PRO version. I was intrigued by these claims of fraud and decided to investigate one such site. http://www.limewire-downloading.com/uk/index.htm These folks are slick. Nice professional looking page. The colors are right, different logo, but unless you've seen Limewire in action, you'd never know it. On the main page... down at the very bottom in a almost unreadable light gray is the line "LimeWire is a freeware. Please consult the Terms of use to learn more." So... I consulted the Terms of use. OMG!! They are really out to get you. There is a clause in there that says something to the effect of.. if you dispute your purchase in any way you HAVE to use a specific email address for all correspondence. If you don't they will CHARGE you $15 for every email you send. This includes contacting the actual company who places the charge on your credit card. Here's the exact text from their TOU Page "USERS AND MEMBERS AGREE THAT IF THEY HAVE ANY REQUESTS/QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR SALES/ REFUND POLICY, THEY MUST CONTACT US DIRECTLY AT support@limewire-downloading.com AND SHALL NOT CONTACT PAY SYSTEM OR WORLDPAY. IF THEY DO NOT COMPLY TO THIS ORDER, WE ARE IN THE OBLIGATION OF CHARGING THEM A 15$ UNSOLICITATED FEEDBACK FEE TO THEIR CREDIT CARD/CHECKING ACCOUNT FOR EVERY EMAIL THAT IS NOT SENT TO THE APPROPRIATE DEPARTMENT." So basically not only are they charging you for a FREE program, but they charge you if you complain about it too! Good thing the DMV here in the states doesn't do that.. An extra $15 bucks every time you complain about the length of the line unless you do it directly to the deaf guy in the corner wearing the blue tie! Here's another nice quote from their website "The fee assessed by Limewire-Downloading entitles You to access the location, evaluation, and or recommendation of software products available from the web site and for the installation and technical support provided. All software recommendations refer to software that is available without charge to individuals at large for specific purposes." Uhh.. OK... SO they're basically saying by charging your credit card we are allowing you to access software that is free to anyone and we'll tell you it's good?? No thanks, I'll try it myself and decide. OH and it gets better... More confusing language: "The service does not offer free trials as such the one-time charge is nonrefundable. limewire-downloading is a service website and does not issue refunds for dissatisfaction with the softwares or unability to use due to computer misconfiguration. If refund have to be made, there is a 12$ Processing Fee and Penality charge equals to 25% of the initial membership price. Customer have 30 days to request a refund, prior to this date, all request will be ignored. All penalty charges will be automatically billed to the customer's prefered method of payment and limewire-downloading is not in obligation to provide a written or verbal notice to the Customer." Ok.. no free trial. Gotcha. No refunds for dissatisfaction or your inability to use the software. Gotcha. However, if they decide to issue a refund, there is a $12 processing fee and Penalty charge equal to 1/4 of your membership price. Yikes! I'm not good on the exchange rates but unless you bought a lifetime membership off the bat, you might actually be PAYING them to refund your money??? Now this is where I get confused... You have 30 days to request a refund... "prior to this date, all request will be ignored." In order for this to even allow for a window of possible refund time it SHOULD say "AFTER this date". Prior to the date means before. So if you bought it on June 4th and your 30 day limit was July 4th.. they are saying BEFORE July 4th your request will be ignored.. and you can't make a request after July 4th. THen there's the "Penalty charges"... they say they can charge those to your credit card WITHOUT notifing you AT ALL!! Uhhh NOT good! How'd you like a $12+ charge to just SHOW up on your credit/debit card out of the blue because you complained that you didn't like their "service". And you'd better hope you complained to the right address ... or BAM! There's another $15 charge. I just wish there was some way of warning people about this stuff BEFORE they get suckered in. For those who've paid and lost.. I'm sorry you got taken. Let it serve as a lesson to all of us. Even thought they are often long and boring and confusing.. before you give ANYBODY your credit/debit card information READ their usage policies!!! If anything in there looks suspicious.. DO NOT make the transaction. Do the research and save yourself loads of time and money! |

waynet94: These scam versions can't be trusted. They've been known to be filled with viruses/adwares, spywares, etc. Plus some sites will continue to charge you. Get the official free version. Then see how you like it. If after much experience you decide you'd like to go pro then you know where to get it. Cancel your transaction asap with that other site thru your bank/credit co. Then get the real LW from here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml |
thanks ok thanks mate just cancel direct debit at bank then and they will stop them taking further money out of my account, shall i delete the lot of my computer immediatally then? |

Newbies Dear Newbies Apart from ZebraSE, how many of you guys and girls did any research into what you were getting into before you gave your money away to the scammers? Did anyone stop to think that what was on offer seemed too good to be true? Did anyone check that the (scam) site had a phone number, an address and could be contacted. Did you try to gather any information about the site, e.g. reviews, word of mouth, other recommendations, before parting with your money? Or were you mesmerised by the scammer’s advert, i.e. smiling models, slick presentation, lots of “wordage”, etc? If the answer to the above questions, except the last one, was "NO" then you newbies have no one to blame but yourselves for being taken. UK Bob |
MyMusicInc.com's (and others) mailing address.. Hiya, Clearly MyMusicInc.com etc are scamming scum. They are also careless scum.. Here's how I found them.. Using 'Whois.sc" - a domain lookup site to look them up; http://www.whois.sc/mymusicinc.com Now they hid their registration behind Network Solutions, however, Whois.sc allows you to see *what other sites are running off the same web server*, which is often very interesting as usually people will rent a colo'd box and run all their scams off it... sooo, running on the same box are; http://www.whois.sc/christmysavior.com (woah!) and http://www.whois.sc/imusicsearch.com and http://www.whois.sc/musicdownloadpro.com all of which are basically the same scam. Note that they all have the same contact address (NOT hidden this time - lazy scammer!) Registrant: My Music Inc 701 Rossland Road East Ste 369 Whitby, Ontario L1N9K3 CA Registrar: DOTSTER Domain Name: MUSICDOWNLOADPRO.COM Created on: 08-JAN-04 Expires on: 08-JAN-09 Last Updated on: 30-JUN-04 Administrative, Technical Contact: My Music Inc 701 Rossland Road East Ste 369 Whitby, Ontario L1N9K3 CA 905-248-3113 Oh looky! MyMusicInc! Anybody in Ontario want to go round and 'reeducate' them? |
Re: MyMusicInc.com's (and others) mailing address.. Quote:
Look what goes around comes around, and they will lose a lot more in time.... I have learnt not to by anything that doesn't offer paypal for payments though.. Thanks for the info!!! |
antiscam Well done, you certainly know how to check out a site. But the main problem is that scammers rely on the fact that newbies know "nothing" and are so eager to give their money away that they don't stop and think. So far, I think the scammers are winning. I could be wrong but check out the rest of the forum, you'll see what I mean. UK Bob |
scammers Well ive had emails saying hi thanks for looking and all that lot, something about losing weight too!, any way i wrote a right email back, not replied since, not surprised i gave them some right swearing and abuse, and i said its thee that needs to lose weight, what thats got to do with owt i dont know! |
Scammed OK to all you who say we are naive newbies...not true. I did my research and got had just the same. This so called my music inc. came up on a search as top rated by amazon.com. for music downloads. And with all the napster to do I figured you had to pay for music. So even us oldies can fall into their trap once in awhile just the same:eek: |
pervinpatty Sorry you got had but you said that you did your research. You said: Quote:
Did you ever go to Amazon.com to check on this claim or did you just accept what My Music Inc's advert said? If so then you did not do any research, this bogus advert was obviously part of the scam. Best stick to well known companies in future. UK Bob |
no there was a list on amazon of their top 5 music d/l websites and my music inc was at the top. I used yahoo search to get there. |
pervinpatty Can you post a link to this Amazon.com recommendation? I would certainly like to see it for myself. UK Bob |
Hi I just got caught by a site calling itself MyMusicNOW.cc which does not tell you that all it offers is downloads of LimeWire and other P2P software until it is too late and you have paid $34.00. It is a scam. John :( |
lmao, you guys need to check this crap out: http://www.mp3-review.net/ "Welcome to MP3-Review.net! This is a FREE service that we provide to people interested in Internet downloading, but are confused by the numerous choices of services and programs available." btw, noobs dont click that link, you might get suckered in again. |
Dear John You have been scammed, try to get your money back via your credit card company or bank. Good Luck UK Bob PS. Don't let the scammers keep your money. |
Well damn, I sure wish I knew about all this as well. MyMusic.com suckered yours truly too! They assured me that I had a 30-day free trial and that if I cancelled membership before 30 days I would get a full refund. I haven't heard from them since Wednesday when I was assured that they would answer my question, comment, suggestion, yada, yada, yada. I'm still waiting. Good thing I only signed up for a year. My other concern is this - since I downloaded LimeWire from their site, as well as Antivir, some kind of Poweramp conversion software - should I uninstall the LimeWire that I installed from their site and reinstall it from the LimeWire site? What about the other programs? Anyway, Wachovia said I could file a complaint against them and maybe get my money back through an internet fraud complaint. I'll sure have the documentation that they'll need, so maybe there's hope yet. Being a newbie, I'm sure learning a lot. I didn't even know anything about file-sharing, open source, and all that. Now I'm on a Linux kick, that sounds good too? Please, some suggestions? |
Another Newbie is scammed Hi Newbie u2btrfly Your question: Quote:
You stand a better chance getting your money back from your credit card company because most of them have an "Anti-Fraud" scheme, and you have been defrauded. Just remember newbie, whenever you want to purchase something via the internet do some research first, i.e. don't just look at adverts. UK Bob |
Thanks so much for the advice. I charged the 17.95 on my Visa Check Card and, yes, Wachovia will help me with the fraud complaint. I have the letter the scammer sent me about the refund within 30 days and I might even send them a few pages about this thread. Heaven knows, MyMusic.com is mentioned quite a bit. I got rid of the Antivir and installed Avast. I'll go on and take care of the Limewire after I write this. Thanks again my UK friend!:) |

scammed just got Limewire - unfortunately I appear to have been scammed and I wasn't even aware of it yet! I was searching for help on corrupted files and found forum and this thread re. scamming. I downloaded from http://www.download-it-free.com/limewire/ - the money has not yet come out of my bank account and I will be attempting to stop it now! Guess I need to be more careful in future! |
Newbie with Brains Hi Rumbly and congratulations You are one of the few newbies who got scammed but realised soon after, unlike most that either do not know they've been had or come to this forum in "righteous" anger looking for somebody to blame for their own stupidity. When reading through this forum, and coming across the "victims of scam sites", it is sometimes difficult to sympathise with them because they seem so eager to throw their money away without knowing who or what they're throwing it at. A simple common sense approach to scammers flashy adverts should tell people that what is on offer is too good to be true. And if it is too good to be true then it is more than likely it does not exist. Nevertheless, I am glad when someone realises that they have been scammed, either by luck, common sense kicking in or coming to this forum for help, and then tries to get they're money back. However be warned, not everyone who has been scammed gets their money back, some people have had to put down their rash act to experience (lack of). UK Bob |
update on maladventures with MyMusic Well hello my UK friend and everyone who helped me with this problem! After many threatening e-mails, as in potentially filing an internet fraud complaint with my bank and reporting them in every forum I could find from a-z, these scammers sent me an e-mail saying "YOUR REFUND HAS BEEN PROCESSED AND APPROVED." My only question is this - what do they mean by "approved?" We had a "free trial with refund if cancelled within 30 days" agreement I only got that after pleading poor mouth and that their service looked promising. When I first went to their site, nothing was mentioned about a "free trial." 'Course, they lied and told me that they wouldn't even process payment until the 30 days were up. As soon as I see it in my bank account, I'll know I'm not dreaming though. So thank you once again UK Bob, and thanks to this forum. I would never have known. Oh, by the way, is there someone I can report them to anyway? ;) |
AS this seems to be confession time I must add my 2 cents forward. so sit back and have a laugh at this. I have been involved with computers for a quarter of a century now. I have spent the last 6 years working on various helpdesks for all the ISP in my fair country. I have heard so many horror stories over the years I believed using P2P software was too dangerous to be of any benefit. I recently found mp3 sites based in either the ukraine or russia that seemed to provide a cheaper alternative to itunes and the rest. and their contracts and terms seemed to allow legal music that was very cheap. I knew something wasn't right but in a rush to save money, and fill my addictive personality I bought up big. I have came to learn that they were illegal as one was shutdown (www.mclub.te.net.ua) So what changed, I had good communication with these guys so when they suggested a file sharing program called bt2net I thought hmm, ok well these guys have never done wrong by me and downloaded the program and started to run it. It did offer a free trial I loved it as all their files were on the file sharing program. right down to the bitrate. I bought the program to use fully then it happened bugs in the program cause massive errors and forced me to re-install windows 11 times in one week and lossed the ability to use the porgram. I tried to contact the support team but was driven nuts by no response. I went looking for another program to get my fix of music (I am addicted to downloading, it doesn't matter what I just need to download something, my music collection can attest to this, currently in 3 figures of GB) I came across allcoolmusic and started to email them trying to find what I was looking for. remembering all the stories I had heard. but with my head in a spin from all the anger and hate about being cheated I made the mistake of believing that they had a private network that I could tap into. Once I paid up the 2 year plan with dvd movie access I saw the program and completely freaked. LW is freeware of the internet folk, I have used the program and grown to like it but I felt cheated. I emailed them again and again but nothing. So I did what any hatemonger would do in that situation, cut my loses got out ,my revenge book and wrote them into it (makes a good read and if I ever get a nuke then they will be sucking up mushroom death) I guess the best thing to do with these guys is let everyone know what is going on. newbies and old hands alike. I am putting serious thought into taking a full page advert in all computer mags about these guys and how they are cheating everyone. And to those who want revenge here is an idea. if these guys believe they can hide behind their contracts then change your attack path to the CC company that allows them to make their money. The online companies that make money from their adverts. and RIAA that they are pushing pirating as being legal. Use RIAA's all consuming resourses to shut them down for marketing their "nemesis". Shame them with publicity, drag them into the light and set fire to them. (see hatemonger at work, Helpdesk ) Another idea is to set up a site that lists all the offenders and their allies. if google wants to make money then shame them into taking these sites down. I am sure microsoft would love to destroy these filth. any other ideas I would love to hear. to others who have been caught by them use your anger to strike back at the companies in a way that will hurt them where it counts. and Like the rest of the guys and gals say in here. be very careful when signing up for anything. the net is a wonderful place but as with all things scum will try to trick you at every turn. Hail Freedom Death to all scammers :D |
i just had to change my sig because of all this. anyways, its probably the riaa thats doing it.. damn, wouldnt that be ironic. but its always great to hear that someone found out the truth.. but its even better if you knew the truth before getting burned ;) peace.. -ultracross |
hi had to join to join in and glad I did. I have just downloaded lime wire for free, dont really know how I got here, but it came in through some annoying woman in Canada called Lisa Williams from www.MyMusicInc.com and they wanted money for it. Initially advertises as free downloads, then when you follow it through you get an option of payment deals 1 year, lifetime etc. Ha got no hope of getting money out of me, but Lisa sounds nice and any time shes in the uk she can email me. Once upon a time I lived by the rule you dont get anything for free, thats why I am now poor... But slowly buildning my resources... |
The software is free. You are paying for unlimited technical support and so we can run the website. If unsatisfied, for any reason, you can cancel your membership within 30 days for a full refund. That is the statement made by MyMusicInc.com Share Responsibly: Today, there are 240 million users trading MP3s on legal file-sharing networks. Sharing is not illegal as long as you obey all relevant copyright laws. Sharing copyrighted material, without permission to do so, is illegal. Purchasing a membership in MyMusicInc.com does not give you license to download or upload copyrighted material. MyMusicInc.com implores you to respect all copyright laws. My Music Inc - 2004 - All Rights Reserved - Privacy Policy What a croc of shhh. and you want to see what their clients are saying "I am so pleased with the service you have given me" these millions of people are not as pleased as the directors of mymusicinc, who are now living a lifestyle by scamming people |
since they are linking directly to limewire.com servers to download the installation software for limewire (a few people have noticed this.) all limewire has to do is this: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=42544 |
Yes I DID! In my previous post here, I said I would believe it when I saw the money in my bank account. Yes, they did actually refund money after all the threatening e-mails, sending them their own "guarantee of money back if not satisfied" statement and all that. Yes, Kelnar, you are absolutely right about getting these guys back, and yes UC you are right with believing the RIAA has something to do with it. I think so too. I've had other problems since then with a false-positive virus diagnosed by Avast and now having scripts errors so I can't print anything. If anyone will read my post in Tips and Tricks here, I would appreciate any help. I copied the error message wrong - the last part of it I think should be URS res://C\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SHDOCL/DLL/preview.dlg. Not sure if that't right either. Back to the topic, at least I did get my money back. I didn't know anything about P2P until MyMusic came along. It was only through a small problem I was having with Limewire that I came to this forum and found out I got burned. So once again, thank you all and PLEASE, any newbies like me (probably won't be much longer at this rate though LOL) do not sign up for anything like AllCoolMusic, Mymusic, and oh there's another one that tried to get to me yesterday - PeerFlix. Be careful out there. :) |
Scam Sites are Predators Dear U2btrfly Glad you got your money back and beaten the scammers but, as you admit, you would not have known you were scammed unless you had a problem and came to this forum looking for help. Now imagine all those newbies out there that do not have problems and are living quite happily with their paid for "free" LW basic. Scam sites exist to prey on gullible and unthinking internet shoppers, but theses sites would not exist if people thought about what they were doing before parting with their payment details. So, in a way, I blame the prey (in the main gullible newbies) for the existence of so many predators (well over a hundred scam sites). Predators exists because their prey are plentiful, no prey and predators becomes extinct. Therefore, unless and until newbies start to use their common sense and stop being prey there will always be predatory sites willing and able to rip them off. UK Bob |

I telephoned my Credit Card Company to report the charge and they have said that the charge will not be paid until further investigations are made. I have been charged 62.68 USD does that mean the fraudsters can keep on placing this charge on my card ad infinitum? The ofending site is: www.ip-mp3downloading.com |

Scam!!!! It seems I was also scammed. http://www.my-free-music.com/home.htm?affID=2588 The is the web address that charged me $24.95 for a 2 year membership that is apparently free then offered the $18.88 upgrade option. I used the 1st site My Music Inc. Do I have any recourse? |
hi lucy, are you still within the 30 day refund period, other than that I reckon it will be tough. they do state that the software is free and you are paying for technical support. personally I think they should all be prosecuted for fraud and closed down. I think I will start a website offering technical assistance should you need help in breathing. |
Scam Yes I am still witih the 30 days. How do I get my money back? |
