I think I've been scammed as well! I was in a bit of a rush as I was about to rush of to a gig and I needed to hear a song so my band could play it, someone suggested Limewire. I thought I had logged on to Limewire but obviously not (I found the site with a search on Google) and yes I paid for a 2year subsctiption (99p - UK- per month I think!).

Then I got an email from MP3MusicHQ.com with a bill as follows (UK prices):

Quantity Description Amount
1 2 Year Membership 14.16
1 PRO-Version 9.97
1 SpyRemover 8.88
Total Charge 33.01

and a link to http://MP3MusicHQ.com/me/login.asp which threw me as there was no mention of Limewire yet it mentioned the order ID number that had been generated when I placed the order. I followed the link (which now cannot be contacted!) and there was no email address etc only a phone number (which I called (my face is going red as I think how this must sound) where I had to leave a message as there was no answer. (There was also something about Mp3ehlpdesk.com who say they act on behalf of various internet companies.)

MY QUESTIONS are:

1 Is the livewire program I downloaded OK or is it different/bad in some way?
2 I paid (foolishly, cos I was in a rush) with a DEBIT card not A CREDIT CARD! so I don't suppose I am covered?
3 Will they keep trying to take money out of the account or can they only do it on a one off? (I don't know how these sytems work)

Sorry it's so long. I've read lots of messages on this subject and you all seem like really nice, helpfull people. I hope someone can put my mind at rest on the above.

Sounds like you jumped too quick too..... but I REALLY thought I was doing it right!!!! UGH!!! I've tried to contact ClickBank through their website, following the forms they have, but I haven't heard anything yet - I'm not going to give up. Fraud is Fraud.

It appears to be a legit site. I stil have the e-mail confirming my charges (way back when), but they have "do not reply to this e-mail" and refer me back to this forum. I just want to find a contact for Limeware. This is the only contact info they have for basic LimeWare.

Any contact for basic LimeWare from the website linked me to this forum. You can either sign on if you have Pro version, or upgrade to pro version. There is no contact information. I am stil able to download, I have lost some of the functions I originally had and have questions. I had no idea there was a scam going on.

I feel really dumb. I got taken by a website call mp3-Source. http://www.mp3-source.net/ . I've already filed a complaint with the fbi. They offered unlimited access for $2.08 per month. I figured if i didnt like it or if it were a scam i'd be out 2 bucks. Next thing i know, they charged me $70.08 USD! Anyone else have any suggestions?

:mad: I thought I'd get onto this music download business and friends suggested Limewire, sounds good to me. Did a Google search and went to the first entry which was All-Limewire.com/MusicDownloads. Although I was told it was free I thought I might get something extra buy parting with a few $$, SCAMMED !! The sight looked so convincing too. I immediately got onto my credit card company who said that it has to appear on my statement before they can look at it, waited 4 days for it to appear got onto cc company-------sorry buddy, can't help you. Only hope they don't make it a regular charge.

Well first of all I fell for 23.00$ fee from mp3downloadhq.com scam about 2 years ago...they offer a bunch of free p2p programs i.e. limewire, bearshare, and various others. my problem is that just yesterday i had to restore my comp and but a year or so ago i had upgraded my limewire to the limewire pro version, so now when i try to put it back on my comp, my email account is not recognized. Well now i am just stuck with the plain old limewire, whereas i really liked the pro a lot better...:cool: , any suggestions?

even though i was scammed a 1 year and a half ago and "paid" for limewire, i had actually upgraded to the pro version after downloading the free version from limewire, my email address is not being accepted to put the pro version back on my comp? you know, when limewire opens up and the box pops up telling you that a newer version(pro) is available... i go thru the motions and when asked to enter my email, to verifiy that i have already paid for the pro version, my email is not accepted!!!:mad: whats really going on?

I paid $49.92 for basic Limewire that I still can't get working on my PC. I downloaded the free one from limewire.com for my mac and it works fine. I can't seem to get anyone on the phone or by e-mail. I believe it is a scam. I 've been tyrying for a month. Is there anything my bank can do? Who do I notify? Even if I don't get MY money back, I want people warned.

I have seen simular scams to these on e-bay and on software sights the best place to download the free version is from either limewire.com or c-net/download.com buy the pro version from limewire.com and you won't get scammed.

I tried 3 times yesterday (August 8, 2006) to upgrade to "limewire pro" and I kept getting an error message saying that my zip code did not match the billing zip code of my charge card. I called my bank to find out why the card would not work and they said the the charge of $18.88 was applied to my account 3 times.....however I never received the pro version and now my account has been charge a lot more than it should have been. Also, the system does not recognize my email address and says that I am not in the system. I cannot receive technical support because I haven't upgraded to the pro version. Please advise....I would very much like to upgrade to "Limewire Pro", but at a charge of only $18.88, not $56.64. PLEASE ADVISE!

It is true that GPL permits selling of software, HOWEVER
Those sites are illegal and fraudulous because:
-They do not give access to FrostWire source, as required by the GPL
-They lure new non-experimented users into thinking that a subscription gives them the right of legally downloading copyrighted works (Unlimited songs, movies, Legal) which is totally false, as other P2P activities, respect your country laws
-They don't tell what software users are getting (all 100% free software) and links to official websites
-They don't tell that the only thing they could charge, is the support over the usage of the softwares (a support often better on official web sites and forums)

How they work:
-Big scammers makes many websites to lure as many newbies as they can to pay (for exemple, mymusicinc.com, musicinc.cc and allcoolmusic.com have all the same owner), while softwares have only one official website.
-They pay Google many thousands of dollars for ads that are displayed accordingly to your search keywords or the subjects of a web page you visit.
-Once they get too many frustrated users on one site, the scammers close the site and reopen another one with a different address and different design.
-They make millions while legits software developers most often work for nothing.

Please spread the word and use this thread to share your experiences and exchange ideas about how to get a refund.

They do NOT deserve your money over OTHER's work. Do NOT encourage those parasites.

Have you contacted your bank/CC company? Depending on how long ago you paid, they might still be able to cancel the transaction. You should at least report it to them, most have a department to handle scams/fraud. Have a read through the thread below, you'll see how some people have been able to get money back from scammers:)

If it is still possible, try to cancel the transaction. Talk to your bank, they should have a special department dealing with internet scams.
