disappointment

I am very disappointed by Limewire.
I am trying to download with no firewall, setting up is OK and as a result I cannot download at more than 2 to 3 Kb, I only have 5 servers connected meaning poor choices when searching something (videos, musics,...).
I bought the pro version hoping to have better results, but it's even worse.
This is relly unbelievable how poor this software is and how difficult to get support really is.

Hi obiwan83,
It's a shame you're disappointed with LW. There are two stickies in particular which tell you how to get the best out of the pgm: in this section "A few things to consider while configuring LW for optimal performance" and within the Download/Upload Problems section: "Maximising download/upload success". You might've already read them but if not, have a look.

As for support: I can't judge the e-mail support as I don't have pro but you will get support and help here on the forum if you ask for it;)

Cheers

5 UP connections literally connects you to thousands of others depending on how many people are on the net at any given time. If you could do a speed test and post the results here we might be able to help. The link below will take you to a speed test.

We will probably need a little more info.

OS, Windows 98/2000/XP
CPU, P4 3.0 GHz/AMD 64 3200+Ghz
Memory, 256MB/512MB
Graphics/Video Card & Platform NVIDIA/Intel Extreme/Radieon & model #
Connection, Dial-up/DSL
LimeWire Version 4.8.1/4.9.11
Java Version 1.4.2/1.5.4
What firewall you use if any
What Antivirus if any
Are you new to LimeWire or Experienced
An accurate description of your problem

First of all thansk for your replies.

Sphinx : I am currently using LW 4.10. I bought the previous version of LW Pro in March 2005.

Birdy : I already had a look at this setion : "A few things to consider while configuring LW for optimal performance" but couldn't get more out of it. Dowoad rate is still very slow.

Grandpa : Bandwith speed test shows : 1528 Kbps and 187 K bytesps

yo

your download speeds are based on other peoples upload speeds, so on p2p your not downloading from a dedicated server, plus theres atleast ten people on this upload so it flucuates, its fine yo

I can't help but sympathise with obiwan83.

Limewire is continuously selling its pro version to people saying you will experience turbo charged downloads. But far too often we see people upgrading to pro and not having any increase in speed at all.

Then others say it is to do with their ISP or the people who they are downloading off. Maybe, before they entice people to buy pro they should add a comment in stating the fact that many ISPs are now shaping download speeds so there is a possibility limewire pro will have no effect at all. And if you are only downloading at 2-5kbs in limewire basic you are probably one of those people.

its supercharged connection, not downloads, just means your connected to more people

crawler_nt, Sphinx

Not that I disagree with you I believe that statement should be removed or a disclaimer clearly posted about possible limitations by there ISP. The statement is deceptive.

But if you have a fast connection with no limitations from your ISP there is a difference in speed between Pro and Basic. There are several things that come into play such as the #of people hosting a file there connection etc.

I did a little experiment last night I picked 3 files all 700MB or more all with at least 10 sources all showing T3. I then downloaded them with Pro. they all completed within 2 hrs.

I then did the same files with Basic the same file took a little over 2 1/2 hrs to complete. I am running the same test this morning and I am currently in the second phase of the test and it looks like the results are going to be the same.

In conclusion Pro is faster than Basic At least from my test results
