Question Upload speed

I have unchecked the "use maximum download..." box but
this does not seem to be effective. I use cable modem so when
the upload speed is too important the download speed is
reduced to nearly nil.

I use version 1.12 on WinME.

Any help appreciated.

Unhappy same here

I have this problem as well. I think it's more an ISP issue as I have had two diff. high speed access accounts while using Xolox and it didn't do that on the other account I had with another company. (Wish I'd kept them but they were just too expensive.) The speeds were the same on both accounts but the one I have now seems to choke the download speed when uploading to the max.

I have it working pretty well now by setting the upload speed in Xolox to 6. Try that.

Exclamation

I am experiencing this problem as well.

There is actually a bug in Xolox that disregards the 'Use maximum upload settings...' in the preferences settings.

As a result, if your computer remains inactive for 15mn, the upload speed is automatically set to the maximum even if you've set a limit of 3KB/s.

If you have several uploads going, it eats up all your available bandwidth and leaves you with no download bandwidth available if you're on a cable modem.

Thumbs up fix please

yes try to work on the download speed. it is good and everything. i think this is the best program but you need to upgrade. like u need the device that plays songs just using xolox not windows medeia player 7. but this is the best program i have ever used. it is better than napster ever thought and better than kazza and its look a like morpheus. just dont let it turn into spyware.

Hmm... I don't think that would work. Almost all media types require beginning at the start of the file to read media type and properties (codecs, bitrate, resolution, etc) so only the first segment of downloading file could be played at all IF it's a streaming media type... the only exception I can think of here is MP3s, which have bitrate info in every frame. Additionally, for files like AVI, the segment must also be fixed, rebuilding the index telling it how many frames there are and such... I would much rather see developers making the client better in terms of performance, bugfixes, and compatability with other clients (like the BearShare metadata with MP3 hit results problem) than them spending time bloating their software with a built in media fixer/player.

Unhappy Bug

I agree, bug fixes first...

Does anyone know of a workaround for this maximum upload speed problem? (besides moving your mouse every 15min....;-p)

Oops, unchecking the option does not work?
I have tested that the registry settings are updated correct (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\xolox\usemaxonidle). Time for a bugfix, Pasman?

I confirm, the setting changes the registry entry but doesn't actually work.

I am running W2K.
