How did you uninstall LW. If by Add/Remove programs, that may be some of the problem

Might be a Java Issue

Remove All Java versions installed (via Add/Remove Programs) before you install the latest Version. (Download the JRE Offline Installer)
Java SE Downloads Fourth one Down.
Hope this helps.

i have uninstalled java and limewire .limewire still acts like it wants to come on.this is the second time i have uninstalled the programs.first,i uninstalled and reinstalled as you said.limewire came on and my shared files counter at the bottom left started going up extremely fast.so i closed it and uninstalled both java and limewire.still trying to come on.keep getting popups.could it be a virus.if so ,how to find and remove.

The Correct way to uninstall LW is with the Uninstaller. Start > All Programs > Limewire > Uninstall.

Try Going to Start > Search > All Files/Folders. Now type in limewire and click Search. When finished, Delete Everything that it finds.

This is for OS XP. Vista should be similar, I hope

Well...
Even after that...Like 30 seconds later the files are back again...
Makes no sense to me...
And the pop-up is still coming up...
Yay...
