![]() go into the Kaspersky settings and set it so it prompts for action as opposed to automatically blocking stuff..that way you can have manual control over what is going on and also be able to see what programs and such are doing what activities....

![]() ![]() I have had Limewire for several years. Originally I had it on a desktop and 2 years ago I transferred it to my current computer. I don't use very often, maybe 2 or 3 times a month. I have had no problems with it. The last time I used it was maybe 3 or 4 weeks ago. Three daysago I tried to open it and nothing happened. I went through all the usual to try and solve the problem, but to no avail. Since I hadn't upgraded in a while, I went to the website and bought a newer version. As I said, I don't use it all that often, so I bought the $13.95 version. I followed all the instructions to download and install. I clicked on the desktop icon, a pause, and a window with this message: "limewire has encountered a problem and needs to close. We apologize for any inconvenience" (not a particularly unsusual message in Windows) Again, I did all the usual when I've encountered this before. Same message. I went to Limewire for help, and because I bought the cheapie, no tech support...not even for installation! I went through all the FAQ suggestions. Same message every time. So I came to this forum. I have spent many hours over the last 3 days trying each and every suggestion that there is posted here to resolve this. I have tried them all several times. And every time I get the same "problem encountered" message. I will say that as of now, a limewire window actually does pop up, sits there for about a minute and then gives me that favorite message. So, before I go to Limewire and ask for my money back, I thought I would make one final plea for any other suggestions there might be. Thanks for whatever help you may have. my system details you asked to provide: Computer- 2yr. old Gateway Laptop Model MT6707 1- my OS; Windows XP sp3 2- Firewalls; Windows(disabled) 3- I have 2G of RAM 4- Hard Disk Space Avail.-67GB 5- connection type- broadband/wireless 6- modem/router: Actiontec M1424WR 7- connect. loc.-house 8- limewire ver. 5.2.8 (at this moment) 9- ISP- Verizon 10-Requested test result- "test worked" 11-2 computers connected to the modem/router; this laptop(wireless) & desktop (hard wired) 12- I had Limewire for several yrs., this is a new problem 13- visible "bricks", icons, etc.- I cannot see anything because I can't open anything 14- I believe my setup is UPnP 15- My virus/spyware connection is Webroot. ![]() Do you still have the installer? Keep it .. do not trash it! Follow these directions but instead, use your own Pro installer you downloaded: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/333278-post2.html ![]() Also delete your old preferences folder before you install ... most likely step 3 Fixes for Limewire (click on blue link) though possibly step 2 if step 3 does not apply to you. ![]() BTW always good to see experienced users around the forums, no matter how often you use the program. ![]() |

![]() At this point I'm working very hard to keep track of which fix is which (kinda like "who's on first...") The limewire folder in my applications has nothing in it. It has always been empty each time I've tried the delete in the various versions I tried. Installers I have on file are Limewire 5.2.8.0 & 4.18.8.1; and Java 5.0.110.3 & 6.0.140.8. If you'd be so kind as to repeat for me a "step1, step 2, etc." so I can sort out exactly what I need to try. Thanks! |

![]() The latest java is usually best, however on some peoples systems one particular version works much better than some others. You need Java 1.6 (6) for LW 5 to run however! Java 1.4-5 is fine for LW 4. ![]() Did you tick the box to leave a shortcut to LW on desktop? Install the latest version ... especially IF you are using vista .. right-click the installer & choose Run as then choose Administrator .. then install LW .. then repeat process for the LW shortcut on desktop. ![]() |

![]() Thought I'd give you an update on my recent limewire experience I like to call; "I don't know what will work, but that's not it!" Once again, I tried all the suggestions, and once again I recieved the increasingly annoying message: "limewire has encountered a problem and must close. We are sorry for any inconvenience". Out of frustration, I went up to the old, slow desktop and tried to install. I figured, what the heck? Guess what? It installed so slick and quick there was never as much as a momentary blip! Besides the fact it's about 8 yrs old and only has 750MB of ram, what's the difference? (This is the computer I installed my original version of Limewire to.) Mainly, very few programs. My husband uses it and all he does is Internet searching, Email, Word, and Quicken, although Office 2007 is installed. It has Norton anti-virus (which he hasn't renewed this year, so it isn't up to date on definitions!) and Spybot. Neither interferred with installation. Now, I don't get frustrated and defeated. I get mad and determined! BACK TO THE LAPTOP!!! What have I missed? What haven't I tried? I revisit my virus/malware/spyware. I have disabled/enabled virtually everything at some point. Okay, there is this one selection I never use. It is "Gaming Mode", choices: on & off. I don't play games, but what the heck, I've done everything else! I turn Gaming Mode on. Here we go... re-install java; re-install Limeware. IT WORKED!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Apparently in gaming mode Webroot disables certain shields etc. that can interfere with games on some computers. It also requires you to enter a time to turn it off or it will automatically turn it on in 4 hours. The great thing is I only had to use it to install. I don't have to turn it on every time I use it. Hopefully this experience will be useful for anyone else who has this particular virus program. On one hand I'm thrilled! On the other hand, I feel really stupid for not figuring this out 4 days and countless hours earlier! ![]() Also, looking back on all the various fixes and suggestions offered, it's like playing twister with yourself and reaching the point where you don't know where your left foot is and forgetting the secret key to turn your a** on! I can only imagine what it's like for the technology challenged... ("what's a control panel?", etc). And finally..... No program no matter how much or how little you pay for it should be this convoluted and difficult to install!!! ![]() |

![]() I'm using windows XP. and I didn't see options like that. I must have done something wrong. I know that the first step was to view my list of downloads and click open on the limewire download. then it asked for a specific place to open it to, I told it where to go, and it put a bunch of files there. I tried to tell the computer to extract files, which it sort of did, but when I opened the new file it was comprised of lots of little files, none of which did anything. |
