No point in paying for something that doesn't work as good as free software.
That software, in particular, is particularly galling in that it demands you keep up
the payments or the music you already downloaded will stop playing.

Now that you are using the real BearShare start exploring and you will
probably find a lot of music the record companies don't want you to hear
because they don't "own" it. That's one of their biggest fears, that you might
end up buying CDs from real artists instead of their inferior mass market product. http://www3.telus.net/Aaron_Walkhouse/tongue3.gif

Hi, is there a bearstart utility around that will work with vista? - thanks!

AaronWalkhouse April 30th, 2007 11:09 PM

If you set it to run in XP compatibility mode and do that for BearShare too, it should work.

If at all possible, you should dump Vista and go with XP for at least two more years. ;]

T-note April 30th, 2007 11:21 PM

Cheers thanks for that. Would prefer XP, I dont like Vista at all (on my sisters laptop tho so I dont have to put up with it)

T-note April 30th, 2007 11:54 PM

unfortunately still no go, its like the utility wont change the date but it will open bearshare

AaronWalkhouse May 1st, 2007 02:50 AM

Oh yes, you have to set them to run in admin mode. I don't know how to do
that, since I won't touch Vista with a mouse on a ten foot cord. ;]

Hi ,
Hope i'm in the right thread!! I had been using an old version of Bearflix and one day stupidly thought i'd buy bearflix pro(dont ask why).
Ok ..installed the new version of Bearflix i after removing old version and everything was going fine till i searched for movies eg Axxo .. 5 results when i usually got a hundred more.. If it aint broke dont fix it came to mind... Anyway tried evrything removing it and re-installing including registry entries etc.. then install latest bearshre ..no joy.
Have just installed the bearshare test beta as per this thread and now find all my video files again!!!!
What is teh problem and how can i go back to bearflix and use the pro liscence?? ?
Think i wasted my money here!!

AaronWalkhouse May 22nd, 2007 09:33 AM

Don't bother with BearFlix. It is just a copy of BearShare that was
crippled to prevent you from downloading anything but pictures and
short videos. You won't get a refund either because you "signed"
away your rights to one in the EULA.

The beta is better than Pro ever was because it's download limits were
jacked way up to help debug performance problems and it's the only
version that allows you to force it into ultrapeer mode.

flatron342 May 22nd, 2007 11:14 AM

Thanks for the reply..
I'l stick with the version I have then!!
Cheers mate.

hopphaus May 27th, 2007 12:18 PM

Thanks!!

I have been trying to get bearshare to work on my new computer for a while. This worked!! I am so happy!!

tortou May 28th, 2007 07:10 AM

itried allof the downloads but then im told that the version is out of date

suliyat416 May 28th, 2007 12:02 PM

Doesnt Work, Says Its Expired

AaronWalkhouse May 29th, 2007 12:24 AM

Don't forget to use the BearStart utility to start it with.

tortou May 29th, 2007 02:54 PM

that says key expired

AaronWalkhouse May 29th, 2007 09:46 PM

Even when you use BearStart? You aren't using the crippled M$ OSes Vista or
Media Center edition, are you?

In Vista, you can right-click on both programs and change their properties to
run as an admin user. If you have that Media Center crapola, wipe the disk and
replace it with an uncrippled version of XP, preferably the Pro version.

I have a version 2.5.1.11 its VERY old ( Yr 2000?)... but I am not sure if it works... I had posted a question about my inability to connect to the network.

ursula June 8th, 2007 09:31 AM

Hiya, AW...

Basic question...

Is your original starting post here still 'legit' ?
Meaning, are the files still viable ?
I know they are 'available', but that's not the same.

Reason I am asking is cuz I've tried the beta setup on three different machines now and come up ZERO, i.e. "Out of Date"

Comments, please ?

AaronWalkhouse June 8th, 2007 12:09 PM

Did you use BearStart? You have to use it to fix that.

greyone June 10th, 2007 05:22 AM

Thank you for your hint.

I'll try a older version.

I followed your instructions like a slave, dear ! ;)

Nada. Always 'Out of Date'.

Any suggestions ?

btw, I should also say that two of the three machines were absolutely BS virgin... never had a single blip of BS in the registry.

AaronWalkhouse June 11th, 2007 10:25 AM

What version of Windows? Vista and that aborted Media Center thing are crippled.

HEARTHBREAKER August 3rd, 2007 10:29 AM

There is apparently some broken links :bangh::bangh::p:p
But I bet you will fix this asap :PEACE::PEACE::PEACE::PEACE: :super:

AaronWalkhouse August 3rd, 2007 03:49 PM

Got it.
If it ever fails again, you can always find BSTEST510b25.exe floating around gnutella.
It's exact size is 3,397,952 bytes and the hash is VDTVBO64HNUXUBMNYFRB22G6UHVJHYJT.

HEARTHBREAKER August 3rd, 2007 06:15 PM

Apparently I can't find it :/
The link for the beta is still broken :/

AaronWalkhouse August 3rd, 2007 09:21 PM

I'm looking at it right now through the FTP server and it's still there…

D'OH! Typo! :wasntme: Try it now.

HEARTHBREAKER August 3rd, 2007 11:54 PM

weeeeee!
Target was Succesfull ;)
Now how can I assist in this forums?

AaronWalkhouse August 4th, 2007 12:27 AM

Get some experience with BearShare, apply the tips posted as stickies in the
BearShare section, and don't forget to load up the latest hostiles list. ;]

narry007 September 2nd, 2007 03:14 AM

Hi Arron,
I downloaded the previous version and the crack for it as you mentioned, but i keep getting the message of " This copy of Bearshare has expired "
Please help .............
I'm running windows XP.

AaronWalkhouse September 2nd, 2007 04:09 AM

That will take more info. Grab BearDiag and post a thread at the
Technutopia forums, where the BearShare gang still hangs out.

narry007 September 2nd, 2007 09:12 AM

thanks a lot for the info, but i went through the forums and it was suggested that by deleting all the library files bearshare might work, and it DID. I will do what you suggested as i a. still not completely happy with bearshare. thanks
Narry

Hello I have looked at this forum many times, and i downloaded the bearshare mentioned here and i liked it, i had to reinstall my OS and tried to redownload the Bearshare and now it will let me download. but when i go through the bearstart it says that the file is not valid. can anyone help?

Peerless September 24th, 2007 06:23 PM

are you completely positive that you downloaded the version of BS in the beginning of this thread?

ProphetDavid September 24th, 2007 06:25 PM

yes, i did. i am still having this problem.

Peerless September 24th, 2007 07:02 PM

I've had this problem a couple of times....try this...completely uninstall BS...remove BearStart....defragment your drive....install BSbeta again and then try using BearStart to start it....sometimes BearStart doesn't work when it is 'slowed' down by other processes going on at the same time...and fragementation exaberates this

ProphetDavid September 24th, 2007 07:21 PM

I did that and it got this message:

We are sorry that bearshare has encountered an error and must close. we are sorry for the inconvenience. It is also saying there is a database error.

Peerless September 24th, 2007 08:13 PM

uh huh....well I have had success solving that by going to program files\bearshare test\db and then deleting all files with the word 'library' in them....then restarting...if your My Downloads folder is really large it would probably help to empty it and start from scratch (no, don't delete the files...in fact just rename the present folder and make a new My Downloads folder)

ProphetDavid September 24th, 2007 08:20 PM

fixed thank you

Anyway :thankyou: 4 the forum! It's helps a lot :Smilywais:

djc_asn83 September 28th, 2007 02:19 PM

activation question

I uninstalled the newest version of Bearshare (you know, the crappy one). I still have BearFlix Pro, but it's not a very good program at all.

I downloaded and installed "BSTEST05010b25", but when I try to launch the program a box pops up that says, "Key Expired--This copy of Bearshare is expired."

How do I get the prior version of Bearshare to work? If I can't, are there any other good programs out there comparable to the old versions of Bearshare?

Thanks for the help!

djc_asn83 September 28th, 2007 02:29 PM

yes, i know...i'm one of those idiots that doesn't read the directions. Nevermind!
