When I start Bearshare it says "unable to load Library database"

First time on this forum, thanks, especially to Aaron.

I loaded bearshare startup

and the link you proposed for th beta test version.

but once installed, when I tried to open it, message came up

.|GLibraryWatchD6.cpp(176) Fatal ....

"unable to load libray database"

Generic ...

Can you give any help on this?

maxrusky October 11th, 2007 10:37 AM

its working

I uninstalled by the custom way and then I shut down and restarted and began again and solved the problem that way.

AaronWalkhouse October 11th, 2007 02:15 PM

If it happens again, the usual fix is to delete the two current library files in the
"Program Files\BearShare Test\db" folder and rename the two backup files to replace them.

Cannot connect to Gnutella network

1 Attachment(s)
Hmm, I've followed the tips in this thread but now can't connect to the Gnutella network at all.

The whole time no firewall or parental blocks installed.

Did the following.

1) Tried running my existing Bearshare until recently got an error saying it had been discontinued (or something like that), so installed current Bearshare.

2) The current Bearshare is terrible for finding files so decided to uninstall it. It did search and download fine though.

3) Tried installing Bearflix but got an error when trying to connect to the Gnutella network.

4) Searched the net and found this thread. Uninstalled Bearflix and installed Bearshare Test (at top of this thread). Used Bearstart to run it. Same Gnutella error.

5) Uninstalled Bearshare Test and installed Bearshare Lite from Lord of Rings post. Same error connecting to Gnutella network.

I'm out of ideas for the moment . Is there any way I can test if my computer can connect to the Gnutella network to see if its a problem with my computer or with Bearshare?

Also, found another thread where most (but not all) people seemed to think it had something to do with Tiscali (which coincidentally I'm with). Is there any way to test this? Did a search on Tiscali website but doesn't mention anything about blocking P2P or Gnutella (if indeed that's possible).

Can anyone help?

Thanks for reading :coffee1:

AaronWalkhouse October 20th, 2007 08:59 AM

Get BearDiag and post it's report in a new thread.

zanderman October 22nd, 2007 10:27 PM

Same here, it's definatly an ISP issue

ironsheik7 October 22nd, 2007 11:03 PM

the reason you can no longer get your bearshare to connect after downloading it..is all the old bear share versions are now dead they no longer work. a few links for old bearshares will let u up grade to the new bearshare ..that is owned by the man ......repeat the old bearshares no longer connect, and no longer work,,bear share is now owned by the Recording Industry Association of America..they sold everyone out

AaronWalkhouse October 23rd, 2007 10:26 PM

My old version still works. What version numbers are you talking about?

kharaa October 26th, 2007 12:55 AM

I'm using the version in the first post on this topic, and it definately won't connect for me either.

I had reformatted my computer and redownloaded and now it doesn't work.

I wonder if they were sabotaged too?

nitrofreak06 November 1st, 2007 01:15 PM

same here wont let me connect either =/ i just want a p2p program that can download mp3's with out the damn DRM... and i cant get limwire to connect -.-

kharaa November 2nd, 2007 03:30 AM

It seems like that any new installation of it won't connect. which really sucks, as bearshare in my opinion was the best of them all, frostwire is full of viruses and spam files and very poor results, and shareaza is much the same.

Bearshare for some reason Always came up with the most results, and had real stuff on it.

Aaron, any ideas why this may be happening?

(Ironic my name is Aron too... just with the spelling i put)

Peerless November 2nd, 2007 08:08 AM

I would guess that the gweb cache of UP hosts that BS connects to upon starting up is down...I noticed this situation a couple of weeks ago or so, and found that with patience BS got connected and started finding proper hosts to communicate with...

read the following, download the connect.txt file and follow the instructions

splatjak November 5th, 2007 02:27 PM

hay is there any software to remove those rotton CL's I did the same thing and went for the upgrade... now I have about 50 to 80 wav's that are protected. bites very much big time.
Oh btw I'm new here So Helloooo eveybody

AaronWalkhouse November 6th, 2007 11:01 PM

What's a "CL"?

Try the version in the first post of this thread for the best performance.

splatjak November 7th, 2007 08:02 AM

CL = protected files, licenced music is there a program out there that will remove the protection off the downloads.. Thanks mike

'Don't download "protected" files anymore. They are all of such poor quality that the
first download isn't worth it, much less a "stripped" re-encode.

splatjak November 7th, 2007 11:13 PM

got ya so it isn't worth re-coden all the files. Hes another question if I were to upload them to say an I-pod would I be able to play them.

AaronWalkhouse November 8th, 2007 03:35 PM

Only if the protection was Apple brand, you're paid up for the month and they haven't cancelled
the rental 'licence' for whatever reason of the month.

I believe it plays unprotected music too, so you should be OK if you get MP3s from now on.

pjwolf November 10th, 2007 06:35 PM

First time poster here... How is everyone?

I have started just subscribing to Bearshare for $7.95 a month and then converting the protected WMAs into mp3s with the Protected Music Converter. Works really good and transfers the music into 192 with perfect quality able to play on the iPod.

Every now and then there might be a crack/pop in a song but you just have to re-convert it and everything is alright.

Bearshare also has quite a library to choose from as well.

Seems like the day of "free music" is over with...oh well it was good while it lasted.

Phillip

Peerless November 10th, 2007 07:05 PM

if you have taken time to read this thread in its entirety you will notice there is the FREE option of the beta version which works rather nicely....did you get that.... FREE ...and no conversion needed as many mp3 files of high bitrate are available....are you aware that a wma file of a quality comparable to a 128KB/s mp3 when recoded to 192 is a piece of cr@p??? the resultant file is of lower kwality than the original....

Aaron, any idea why it keeps telling me this version has expired? worked great on my old puter(XP). Fired right up with the BearStart utility. Tried it on my Vista puter and it's a no-go. Fire up the utility and it keeps saying "This version no longer works." :(

Ain't Vista wunnerful ?

:tease:

Blow it out and run 2000 Pro or XP Pro...

Screw Vista, as the corporate world market has done !

Yeah, yeah !
So, some out there will declaim that this is another 'typical non-helpful post' from me re: Vista...
I could not care less... Those ignorant enough to not understand the enormous negative aspects of Vista are folks with more problems than I and most others could possibly help !

I could easily give you a list of, at minimum, 60 other BASIC Windows applications that will not 'run' in Vista...

Fergit it !

Use an OS that doesn't use min. 20% of your CPU capacity just to keep itself at 'idle' !
Might also be nice to not... NOT... have installed the... THE... Biggest bit of spyware yet released to the general public !
Vista...

Any comments ? (Ha Ha Ha Ha !!!)

Caco Calo January 4th, 2008 01:02 PM

Well that wasn't much help, urs. :p

Had no problems with BS Lite on Vista other than it shutting down randomly on me. Can't get the test version up and running though.

AaronWalkhouse January 4th, 2008 02:22 PM

Right-click on BearShare and BearStart and set their properties to run as an
administrator and in XP compatibility mode. That'll get you going and might
eliminate the crashes too.

Already did that. No worky for the BS Test version. Now bearshare has taken over my browser when i'm logged on as the admin. Won't even allow me to navigate to this site from there. What up with that?? Had to log on as a sub-user to get here. Didn't affect the sub-user accounts, only the admin account. Ran Spybot search and destroy which came up with 14 hits. Fixed the hits but is must not have completely cleaned it. GRRRRRRRRRR!!!

Caco Calo January 4th, 2008 03:38 PM

The problem seems to be in the Bearstart program. Vista is now telling me there is a compatibility problem with it because it is an older program. That really burns me because i really like the BS test version. Ah well, back to BS Lite. I am REALLY starting to hate Vista. :shoot:

bearshare help

I have the free bearshare account.
everything is working fine in terms of downloading songs, but the "people" tab on the left hand side no longer lets me browse people online for chat and stuff.
Any ideas whats going on?
does this feature expire?
Is their servers down or something?
I have emailed bearshare so i will post their answer up here if anyone is having the same problems:
When you click on people, the central area where you would normally see peoples profiles just says "page not found", there is no info about this message on any help site....i turned off all firewalls just in case something was being blocked but im at a loss.

bearshare help

i am using version 6.1.0.42623

i downloaded the bearsharelite program as recommended, but it doesn't have the chat features, profile features or i couldn't find them:mad: and that is what i liked.

welp....that's up to you...I am of the type that prefers results over social scenes ;)...and I'm really against using a program that for all intensive purposes is bugged...hence, I use the expired beta

moonlancer January 17th, 2008 10:28 PM

.\GLibraryWatchDb.cpp (#176) Fatal Error: Unable to load library database.
Reason: Generic Failure
BearShare will automatically attempt to create a new database when it is restarted. Your old database files have been saved for possible diagnosis. Contact technical support for more information.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

what should i do ?

Edit:
never mind i completely deleted it and reinstalled and it is working now

AaronWalkhouse January 17th, 2008 10:37 PM

Next time just go to the /db/ folder of BearShare and replace the Library files with the backups.
That usually works the first time and you don't lose your settings.

moonlancer January 17th, 2008 10:47 PM

oh ok , do you know why this error happens?

itsbkn January 19th, 2008 05:33 PM

BearShare and BearStart

Sorry Aaron but I just downloaded the Beta version of BearShare and the BearStart utility and I got a message that the version and its key had expired.
Any other ideas?

Peerless January 19th, 2008 05:37 PM

did you start the beta via the BearStart utility? to do this simply double click the BearStart.exe

Sometimes the database gets corrupted. That's why BearShare keeps the backups
and attempts to keep a journal going so it can do repairs. If the repairs fail, that's
when you get the error message, and that's when you use the backups.

BearShare Sabotaged

I read through your 1/17/08 post and used your BearStart link. All went well. I've setup all my downloaded music in one location: iTunes.
As a field trial, I downloaded one mp3 song using BearShare. The song appeared in my music library and iTunes.
All the folders in my iTunes library are marked for sharing. When I open "Library" in BearShare all my folders are there, but below is a list marked "My Files" and among other things two folders marked "Shared" and "Unshared". Only 13 songs out of a possible 1,163 songs are in the shared folder. There are no songs in the "unshared" folder. Also, in iTunes you can view files deemed Library>Music as well as synchronizing all music with the iTunes file library. My test song appears in iTunes Library>Music but won't synchonize so a copy appears in the shared iTunes library folder.
It is my desire to share all my downloaded music with the BearShare community but I'm stuck as to how to do this. I checked the version of BearShare I'm using and it's 5.1.0b25.
Am I not getting something here or do I need to proceed with process that will allow all my music to be shared.

itsbrkn

AaronWalkhouse January 22nd, 2008 12:08 AM

Go to the Library view in BearShare, click the Folders button on the top left and add the folders where you have your files.

BearShare sabotaged

Aaron; thank you for the advice. I can now share about 1000 music files with others.
Have a sparkling day!

Hi, I'm new to BearShare. A friend of mine told me about it, he has the old version. I downloaded v6 and now know the issues with v6. As a new user is it possible to download the old version.

Peerless January 23rd, 2008 07:31 PM

read the first post in this thread and try out the expired beta version and use the bearstart utility to run it....make sure to read all of this thread for hints on how to configure and get the fullest out of it

Jenee5481 January 23rd, 2008 10:37 PM

It works! Thanks to you all!

Shartog January 27th, 2008 06:08 PM

Sabotaged...maybe

This thread ROCKS! Thanks for a ton of help on getting my 'ol BS back online.

BUT! There seems to be a new problem. When I search for a particular file, say an mp3, the one that has the most sources automatically is "downloaded" -- but not by me! The program automatically is doing it, making it impossible to choose the file with the most sources and forcing me to have to choose a file that will take longer to dload.

Did I make myself understood? What's going on here??

Rocempire January 27th, 2008 11:47 PM

Lost the real BareShare and got it back, will it last?

I did it all, Reset system using goback, then changed the date on my computer to refelct an earlier time when the old bearshare worked. Now bearshare works !! Help !! I love to Share !!

BearShare doesn't automatically download any files that show up in searches. If
that file showed up in green lettering before you selected any for download, it's
because you already have that exact same file, even if it has a different filename.

Right-click the column headings in the the Search, Downloads and Library views
and enable the SHA1 column so you can search your folders and can tell which
file it is.

I'm not sure you understand completely what I am saying. When I input what I am searching for ([edit]), the prog searches for mp3's that fall under that criteria. I am saying that SOMETHING is AUTOMATICALLY making it impossible to dload the file that has the most sources BECAUSE ITS ALREADY DLOADED. I didn't do it, and that file is not in existance on my computer. The program did it, in other words.

Anyone else experience something similar??

I am really confused lol about whitch version of BS is the best or most sercured etc.
Can some one just give me a version that would be best pretty please?

I am running windows vista home premium, but i wud like it to be able to run on my laptop whitch is running on windows xp pro.maybe if its ok on my xp laptop i may put it onto my vista laptop.

Oh and the older versions, they are still safe arnt they?

Cheers all.
Jme.

AaronWalkhouse January 29th, 2008 10:17 PM

Yes, and they work best on XP because Vista is not recognized as a valid version,
so BearShare reverts to Win9x settings.

The beta in the first post of this thread is the best one of all.
