that's my concern. i've formerly used bearshare without a problem. only now am i having problems with the new bearshare upgrade, and limewire. kinda makes one wish he just left well enough alone!

thanks for your suggestions greg. i'll try fiddling with that community tab to force a connect.

Greg,

I just checked my cable company's network status and here's what they're presently saying:

"Date Entered: 07/13/2001 03:27:12 PM PDT

There is IP renumbering planned for West. In order to restore your connection after the scheduled service, please do a Release/Renew or reboot your system. The maintenance will begin 07/18/2001 03:00:00 AM PDT."

I wouldn't pay that much attention to the date they say it will begin. They've misrepresented similar events before. Could this "IP renumbering" be what's causing my bearshare/limewire problems? Please keep in mind that I used to use bearshare with no problem, until I recently upgraded my BearShare v2.2.4 to v2.2.6. When that bombed, I switched to LimeWire but that wasn't working either.

Not if you rebooted and ensured that your connection was working.

If you have a Wi***/98/ME type computer, you might want to look for the newdotnet.dll problem. See the sticky forum and try to uninstall that.

nope. that didn't seem to do it either. i ran ad-aware 5.5 and cleared out all those little ad things, but i'm still facing the same problem: NO CONNECTION!

thanks for your continuing efforts, greg. Please keep helping me try to get back on bearshare or limewire! thanks.

I had to remove all Bearshare files before LimeWire would connect. Now it works fine (except for the library: shows only 5% of the files I am willing to share).

I've completely removed BearShare but I still can't get any LimeWire connections! What is this?!?! I don't usually have problems trying to install a new piece of software. Frustrating. Any answers out there that will get my LimeWire up and running, as my old BearShare v2.2.4 used to work? HELP!!!

where did Greg go? He always seemed to have an answer to these troubleshooting problems. Greg?

I'm having the same problem. After using Limewire for several weeks, I suddenly constantly get "Disconnected / no files available" next to the connect button, even if it shows "Disconnect," which it normally does if I'm connected. I haven't changed any setting, so I can't figure out where this problem is originating. I'm using an iMac with a 56k modem. There's something vewy scwewy going on here...

I don't have an answer. If you have tried all the possible connection points (www.gnutellanews.com)
and you were able to connect before then it could be a new problem.

Can you folks run the LimeWire with a console window to get any error messages? Maybe adam knows the trick for that. I'll find out tomorrow. You also may want to try some new betas that we put out.

I'm beginning to suspect that it might be a problem on my computer's end. Perhaps I inadvertantly deleted a file needed for connection. The reason I suspect such is that I'm also currently not able to get a connection with MSN Explorer, where I used to connect no problem. Maybe if I reinstall MSN Explorer, it will provide the file I deleted. Maybe. I'll let you know if that was it when I get a chance to try.
