First, the "delete-the-pref-folder" advice did nothing for me.

Steps:

1) Launch Limewire. See the new "Tips" dialog box? DISABLE the show-tips-at-launch checkbox. Then click "ok" and hope you never see that box again.

2) Go to LimeWire Preferences and disable the auto-connect at launch option.

3) Quit Limewire. Then relaunch Limewire. Then manually "connect" from the menu. Voila!

I surmise that the new Tips box is interfering with the application's ability to connect!

Limewacko
That didn't Help me. It still shows one bar.

For Windows users it's found under the LW menu bar, Tools > Options > Connections.

Default My simple fix for the Connection prolem

After reviewing all the posted threads, I tried a fix slightly simpler than Limewacko's suggestion (Limewacko - thank you for putting me in the right direction).

Simply go to the Files tab, then click on disconnect. Wait a few seconds and click on the connect, no need to shut LW down. My connection was back up and working immediately.

Default Regarding MeMyselfAndI1975

Can you describe what problems you're having precisely? Are you running the latest version of LW? You can check this by going to Help->about limewire. The latest version is 4.18.3.
Also, check firewall settings, limewire adds it automatically to the Windows Firewall, but other applications, notably Norton, can be problematic.
Check to see if you have any firewall SW and add LW as an exception. Also, make sure that your provider allows file sharing.
Good luck!
