Yay

sdaswani I don't know if you're still around, but I could just hug you right now.

You have just given me a fix to my limewire in 20 seconds that 3 hours of probing around in deep firewall/ports/technical crap couldn't.

Thank you so much.:)

After you deleted the folder, did you have to go through LW's setup wizard again?

Connection problem on Desktop and not laptop

OK, first time post. Hope someone can help with this. Tried most of the solutions posted here but nothing works. So here goes....

Laptop is DELL 8600 running LW 4.8.0 & Java 1.6.0_05, Desktop (built-from-scratch) is running LW 4.8.0 & Java 1.6.0_06. Both have Windows Security on, both have Limewire checked as an exception. Both PCs have AVG Security Firewall Installed with default options. Limewire and AVG Security installed in default directories. All options match each other on both systems.

Limewire runs as an UltraPeer on the laptop and refuses to connect on the desktop. (I even added TCP and UDP ports to desktop and switched between UPNP and Manual Port Forward).

Also tried the fix mentioned above to delete the .limewire directory from C:\Documents and Settings\myname\Limewire. I do not have auto-start selected and do not load limewire in the system tray. I manually start each time I want to use it. Yes, I did go thru the LW wizard when I restarted limewire. Also tried deleting and reinstalling.

Now what do I do?????

I really want to get this working on the new PC because its REALLY FAST ( AMD dual core 6400 cpu's, 4 GB memory, 2 320GB 10K rpm drives, etc...)

Thanks,
Jim

1. Decide between windows & AVG firewalls. If it's only things like checking viruses & spyware, etc, fine, but for firewalls should only use one.

2. Make sure none of the computers are using the same connection or listening ports. Routers will reserve a single port for each program on each computer making it inaccessible to the other computers. So try changing their ports under Tools > Options > Advanced > Firewalls. Might need to set it to manual but if you do that, the UPnP for the router won't work so NAT might block incoming. O.o Ports to try: 49152 - 65535
Of course port forwarding would work too.

I have erased EVERY INCH of LW on my computer and re-downloaded it about 3 times now. I have checked all my firewalls (McAfee and Inthernet Explorer) disallowed LW and reallowed LW. My listening port is set to where it needs to be. I still cannot connect. Nothing new happened to my computer before LW stopped working, except I uninstalled an older version of LW and replaced with with the Beta version that just came out. Are there links to the Beta LW and the connection issue?

jmlm1977 June 20th, 2008 12:25 PM

OK, I shut down the laptop and removed it from the network. Only the desktop is connected. Changed the port to 49152 in limewire for both the listening port and the manual port forward. Also added port 49152 as the TCP port and the UDP port (did NOT get an error that the port is already used?? ...originally had UDP set to 49154).

For this test I disabled BOTH FIREWALLS. With the new port settings, tried both UPNP listening on port 49152 and manual port forwarding listening on the same port. No combination of new port, UPNP or manual forwarding, firewall(s) on or off, and only 1 pc connected to the router.

Any other suggestions???
Thanks,
Jim

I cannot get a connection when doing a search. My firewall has allowed Limewire. What other options do I have?
