Gnutella is p2p, from person to person. This forum is a typical forum site. :)

Different accounts by the sounds of things. Try changing the 'Listening port' -> LW's menu bar -> Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Firewalls. Change it to something between 49152 - 65535.

Modems/routers are governed by ip control usually. Each account on the computer will have a different ip address. Only one port number can be used by one ip (two accounts cannot use same port number ... for listening at least.)

Check these options also: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html

how do you take auto load off?

Lord of the Rings December 4th, 2008 04:45 PM

LW's menu bar, Tools > Options > Advanced > System start up. :)

To stop connecting automatically when LW is opened, Tools > Options > Connection.

Ok. I've had Limewire for years and never really had a problem with it, nothing I couldn't fix. I even (yes I can admit it) for 2 days had the pro version (from a friend) but felt like dirt and got rid of it and am currently in the process of getting it legally. Anywho....all that time it always worked. It started up and connected usually right away. Now I haven't used it for about 6-8 weeks now.

Today I start it and it won't connect! It says it is and under the connections it just keeps loading them over and over again! I tried reinstalling it. I restarted pc. I even defragged and all that. Now I tried everything people said and no luck. Only two things I have to mention though.

1. I did a virus check yesterday (routine) and it found some H@tkey virus thing. That related to Limewire? I know some programs have things that virus scanners think are bad but they are not. Maybe I shouldn't have quarantined it?

2. The only thing I didn't try was deleting settings like was originally posted because I can't find the folder everyone is talking about! Heres my only Limewire folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\(my username)\Application Data\LimeWire

Am I suppose to delete everything in there? Because theres folder and data in there! If not what folder are you guys talking about? I even searched my computer for a ".limewire" folder and came up empty.

.limewire only applies to older users who started using the program before 4.12 I think it was.

When upgrading to pro, it's best to delete the LW preferences folder. So do that. If still connection problems, replace the Gnutella file. See other tips also here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html. You may need to combine some of those tips, at least until you get connected. ;)

You'll only have a folder named .limewire if you've used much older versions of LW in the past... the preferences folder used to be named .limewire. So don't worry if you don't have one.

The folder that you found was the right one. You should delete that whole folder. Deleting that folder will kill all of your LW preferences - all the settings that you've chosen within LW's options. So, if you're not sure of those, you should go through LW's tools > options & write down all of your settings so that you can re-set everything once you restart LW;)

If deleting the prefs folder doesn't help, try the other fixes in this thread: If LW Will Not Connect

This is all I could find about the 'virus': Cheat Engine :: View topic - Why does it say infected.

Oops I'm a bit slow:p

OS X:
/Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

Windows:
C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire

Linux:
~/.limewire

Please shutdown any instance of LimeWire you may have running, delete the whole directory, and then restart LimeWire. You should be able to connect.

I'd love to hear how this works for everyone.

Thanks!

I'm confused. A week ago you posted you were unable to open/launch LW. You also posted in this thread you were unable to connect. Which one is it?
Obviously if you cannot Launch LW you cannot connect. But if that's still the problem then you should be posting in the OSX installation section. ;)

I am unable to launch LW 4.18 in my main account. I installed OSX on a different drive & installed LW 4.18 on there & it works fine. I just updated the OSX on that drive & LW still works fine. But I can only use an older version (4.16) on my main OSX drive.

I can't open/launch LW even though it seems to be installed.
