For those of you having startup problems, Java (JRE) version is what you need! Uninstall your Java & re-install the JRE version. Also those with connection issues try deleting your LW preferences folder; instructions for this & a link to the Java can be found here: Fixes for Limewire (By the way, don't install Java over the net, save the installer program to your computer 1st, & then install it. Installing over the net can cause issues.)

Make sure your firewalls are properly configured to allow LW full access: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml
And only have one firewall active, since 2 firewalls can interfere with each other. Remember Windows XP has its own firewall!

You can double-check your status by doing these tests: Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

Do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False? (If False then you have a firewall issue ... either due to internal firewall or possibly a modem/router - if it's your modem-router in which case you should go here: http://portforward.com/routers.htm & Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that.)

Connecting...

Ok, I'm connected to Limewire...it even says "Turbocharged". However, I can't download anything! I'm using Windows XP and a cable modem, and it's going about 2kb/s to 0kb/s. I did the deleting the file thingy, and even downloaded Java JRE. What am I doing wrong?

I have been reading this forum for a week now trying to get connected. After trying everything under the sun, I gave up. Then I had a brilliant idea. I went back to using version 4.2.3 and now I am TURBO charged and working like a charm !!!!!!!!

School Network...

Don't sweat it. If you look online in google search for "firewall port bypassing or "permission" hacking you shouls get hooked up but just read "how not to get caught" as well. You will need 3 programs from the web. Then run in them in the right order.

frustrating can't connect

When I open Limewire, I get this message:

"ERROR - LimeWire was unable to set up a port to listen for incoming connections. Some features of LimeWire may not work as expected"

I can't connect whatever I do and it's really frustrating. I just get Quality - Connecting all the time.

Seems to me this is a bogus and phoney money grabbing site. I have paid and got NOTHING out of it. Will not connect no matter what I do.
