Did that, he's also using 6346. I also tried the Force IP option, that didn't work either. I don't know what else to try.

Try copying your friend's preferences to your own comp. Prefs are in a folder called .limewire, so replace yours with his.

poor connection problems

I run xp with sp2 on a p4 2gig with outpost firewall(no windows firewall) on a 2.3mb dsl connection.
I too had problems connecting
first of all you must go into the folder that you use to log on(ie not all users)
you must also ensure you are viewing the correct limewire folder(i deleted and re-installed several times trying to make it work)
if need be use the search programme to check for existing copies of limewire.
also ensure that limewire is not on the taskbar
delete the said folder
and restart limewire
this fix works

how

how do you get to the limewire preferences, i have xp. how do i get to the directory c:\documents and settings....

Not being an XP user I can only suggest this: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=29243 Alternatively do a search for limewire on your comp.

I'm now totally confused. After my last post I switched back to OSX and LW ran fine. I've done nothing to the computer since then, no installs, nothing, and now I'm right back where I was with the eternal "connecting" problem. What can possibly be causing this bizarre behavior? :confused:

connection problems preferences

for xp users
easiest way to find your limewire directory is to use the search function from the start menu.
delete all limewire directories
and ensure limewire is closed on the task bar.
additional note;
ive had other problems with my dsl connection of late, which may have a bearing on the above connection problems.
I had xp update on automatic, and believe this was compromising my bandwidth. I have since turned automatic updates off, and so far no problems.

mac/os users;
i cant really comment as ive never used the mac/os systems, but i would have thought the method would be roughly the same.

hope this helps you all

This may sound a bit dense but I've forgotten my username for LimeWire - does anyone know how I can find it out?
