If you are new to the world of file sharing please do not be shy! Everyone was ‘new’ when they first started. When posting, please include details for: Your Operating System ....... Your version of your Gnutella Client (* this is important for helping solve problems) ....... Your Internet connection (56K, Cable, DSL) ....... The exact error message, if one pops up Any other relevant information that you think may help ....... Try to make your post descriptive, specific, and clear so members can quickly and efficiently help you. To aid helpers in solving download/upload problems, LimeWire and Frostwire users must specify whether they are downloading a torrent file or a file from the Gnutella network. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving. Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity) Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban. 13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts. 14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts.  isn't happening 1. OS version? XP Pro 2. What firewalls you have? Windows, LW is checked as exception 3. How much ram? 1 gig 4. Hard Disk space available? 68 gigs 5. Connection type? dsl 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Siemens SpeedStream 4200, firewall is off, port 6346 is open 7. Where are you trying to connect from ? home 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? LW 4.14.12, Java 1.6.0_03 9. Who is your ISP? Windstream 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? "cannot display page" 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? no 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. LW worked before on this computer with different ISP (comcast) and a cable connection. I have uninstalled LW and deleted all files, then reinstalled. 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? _ click here to see Sample image Yes 14. | wow, that's a lot of stuff to configure. I'd rather use the UPnP if I can. In my router setup are 3 settings, disable upnp enable discovery and advertisment only (SSDP) enable full internet gateway devise support (IGD)- this one is checked then 2 options, enable access logging read only mode neither one of these are checked. Do I need to check -enable access logging-? Are there other settings I would need to change? |

| Griffn Port Forwarding is a kind of configuration, adjusting settings helps but it is not enough. Here is something that may help your understanding of what "port forwarding" is:- What is Port Forwarding? However, you will need to access your modem-router's advance features, as the Administrator, and perform the "port forwarding" exercise, there is no substitute. UK Bob |

| You have to try it, that is the only way. Now, if UPnP works then you will not have to "Port Forward" but, because of the way different manufacturers implement UPnP, most people have found that they have no choice. As you know what you are doing, follow these instructions:- a) Implement IGD in XP How to enable IDGC on WinXP SP2. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...tml#post292985 b) Implement UPnP in your modem, Limewire and XP c) Turn off "ICMP" in your modem and your firewall, if it is there. Once you have done all this (and saved the changes) do a reboot to get the changes into memory and see how things work out. Good Luck UK Bob |

| oops... Where do I enable NPnP in xp? ICMP is not listed in modem settings. In win firewall, there is not an option to turn ICMP off. There's 10 check-boxes. The 1st one is checked (allow incomming echo), the rest are not. Do I need to check any of these? If I am ever able to connect to www3.limewire.com6346 and think I'm good to go, How do I know if the server is slow or I'm not connected? |

| griffn You will find UPnP the same place you found and implemented IGD in XP. As for ICMP, some modems and firewalls have that setting available if yours does not then no problem. Unfortunately, I do not use the Windows Firewall (I have always thought of it as a waste of time - but some forum members say that it now works as a normal firewall).
