Perhaps a web browser popup-blocker blocked the download of Java. Downloading & re-installing the "Offline" Java is no doubt an easier approach since you are not sure about the location of c:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\java. Try this link instead What is the offline method for downloading and installing Java for a Windows computer? and choose the OFFLINE installer. Before installing Java, right-click the Java installer & choose Run as Administrator. . This is necessary if you wish to use LimeWire on Windows 7. |
Well I found it under the C drive, how do I run as as admin? That's the step I don't understand. You keep on telling me this but I don't understand how to make it do this in the C drive. |
Right-click the Java.exe file and you will see an option to Run as Administrator. Remember to right-click java.exe, not left-click. :) The following example is for the Java installer (& LPE shortcut) but same principle: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...lers-admin.gif |
I can't. The only option I get is to uninstall it when I right click. Where do I go to find the right java script that doesn't involve uninstalling it? I am really lost here, you're not making sense. |
If you don't have an option to run as administrator, then it's because you haven't got administrator rights in the first place. So either you need to use administrator account (every computer has one) or you need to have whoever has one do this for you. |
It's set up that I'm admin, since it's my computer. I just don't know where to start. LOTR keeps saying "run as admin", but I don't understand that. I find Javaspcirpt through the control panel and when I right click I can only uninstall. I need steps from the beginning, that start with where do I find Java script that's not in the control panel? |
You won't be able to run as administrator from control panel, which is exactly why LOTR says to download an offline java installer. The various java files are scattered all over your computer once installed, so if you want to run each and everyone of those as admin, then that method has not been tested. You will find various java*.exe files in amongst other locations: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin C:\Windows\SysWOW64 (is x64 version) use search on your computer to find all locations. Maybe some are enough, maybe one is enough. We have no idea. If the link LOTR provided doesn't work for you then try one here: Download Java Runtime Environment 1.7.0.0 (32-bit) - FileHippo.com They should have most versions and the site is trusted. Once you downloaded the relevant java, download it to Desktop, right-click the installer and choose run as administrator. Of course after uninstalling the version you already have installed. |
What??? I can find it through Program Files (x86) then what do I do? Quote:

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...tml#post365407 I don't see how this can be this hard. Uninstall java. Download java. right-click java installer and choose run as administrator. Install. done. |
