Thank you for the quick replies and I will definitely try that.

A side-note that i'd like to ask about is one thing that seems to happen is occasionally, every single result when I search something is from "MagicMushroom" and I cannot download a single one. And when I try and browse that person, there's always "..a problem browsing MagicMushroom#-##" or something of that fashion. Just wondering if that's ever happened o-o

Instead of showing ip addresses, LW 5 adopted a system of converting their addresses to names instead. Their names will in part give an idea of where they are from but it's a learning experience lol.

LW was never very good at browsing hosts. Sometimes it works, often not. Even harder to browse those uploading from you.

As for always receiving results from one person. I do not know. Maybe spam? There is audio spam. Some audio files are fake. But if you cannot download any of them, then this person might just be a freeloader that has all their upload slots closed. Or else all their upload slots are busy because they share a lot of files.

If LW 5/LPE cannot download the 'hash' of the file within a certain period of time, the download window will say something like cannot download or need more sources, etc. The 'download' hash is the details of the file, so after finishing downloading the actual file, LW rechecks the file versus the hash to be sure they match. I believe it's actually a 'bug' in LPE in that LW gives up too quickly on trying to download the hash of the file. LW 4 seemed to wait much longer in a queue before it gave up. Of course, you could cancel the download and try again.

Something else to keep in mind is people's shared files will still show in search results for a certain period after they have left the network. I am not sure how long it is, perhaps 20-30 minutes. So sometimes you try to download a file and that person is no longer on the network.

Some people also remove their files from their shares during a session. Why? Because they do not really wish to share files. This annoys the heck out of me. :p They should not share their downloads if they do not wish to share files. It screws up the search results.

I would recommend you block port 27016 for incoming in your firewall, a rule for each of TCP and UDP. This port is only used by spammers.
Might be worthy seeing http://www.gnutellaforums.com/open-d...imewire-7.html to see a list of ip addresses that you might consider banning. As for the actual Hostiles list as posted by AaronWalkhouse, it does not work with any LW 5 or pirate edition version. The Hostiles list uses an out-of-date ip address system.

Ok, I have made sure anything in my Windows firewall and my Kaspersky PURE firewall is allowing LW through, and have accepted any notices that have popped up. The settings window is still a problem for me though. It is not the settings window itself that gives me problems, when I open options, click on the transfer tab, and click on browse (for the save to one folder option, or for the save different categories option) it freezes up after i select the folder or even press cancel. I've checked my roaming folder and there is no LW folder there at all to be deleted...which makes me think that, that might be a part of the problem...but that that's just a guess. But since there are important files in there apparently, it would make sense to have a folder there.

I have also blocked the ip addresses that are listed in your link either with my router's firewall (apparently only had space for like 11 or 12) and the Kaspersky PURE firewall, which I blocked all of them (I think I did...but PURE's interface isn't exactly straightforward when trying to block IP addresses), so hopefully that won't be an issue from now on.

So at the moment, I can download most things, but occasionally there are searches that are only available from the uploaders MagicMushroom 7-*, and I cannot download any of them. But most searches are fine.

In any case, I know that this has kind of strayed some from the Java mess of things and into common connection problems, but thanks for the help and the quick replies! ^^

1. Are you able to change any other settings options? Try!

Did you try to find the LW preferences folder via (a) a 'search' or (b) via manually opening the App data and then Roaming folder?
Keep in mind you will not find the LW preferences folder unless you have the View options set to *Show* 'Hidden Files and Folders'.

I had a similar issue on MacOSX with LW 4, which is one reason why I stopped using it, I have no idea why the preferences (options) suddenly stopped even showing in the menu bar. I had to access it via a backdoor (via the shares window.) But some of my settings would not save.

If you cannot eventually find your preferences folder then ...

2. Here's something to try. Whilst LW is closed, right-click the program or it's shortcut and change compatibility mode. Try what's there, be it Windows XP or earlier, etc. This sometimes for some odd reason fixes issues like you are having with the freezing.

No, my bet is it is a network of spammers. All very similar ip address. Have another look at my post about the ban ranges and you will see some of the networks that spam. The ones you are getting might be a new network ip range. These are professional spammers all working for the same company.

The two numbers you see after the name are the last two numbers of their ip address. As you know ip addresses are divided into 4 sections: x.x.x.x
So their second last number is 7 ... thus .. x.x.7.5 to x.x.7.144
We need to find the first two numbers of their ip range.

Is there any way you can check the 'actual' ip address of whom connects to you, etc.? For MacOSX I use Console which gives a
real-time history of my connections .. and there's another way I can find them via a 3rd party frontend to my OSX firewall which allows me to check all my present connections.

IF you can find their ip addresses and ranges, ban the heck out of them lol :D And please pass the ip addresses to me via Private Message if possible. :)

The only ip range in my post I linked you to that looks similar is: 208.93.7.14 - 208.93.7.254 . . (7 hosts seen in this range, spam)
But I do not know if this is the MagicMushroom one.

Note: these companies usually have a half or entire range of ip addresses allotted to them. Sometimes several ranges. Banning them will not in any way affect your web browsing etc. Though of course you can simply just ban them at the LW level in the LW filter ban list.

If you go to your LW Tools menu, Advanced Tools, and if you see any connections to LW 5.1.2 versions, ban them. Likewise if you see any LimeWire 4.21.1(rc) versions. These are all spammers. It's a learning curve, but one you will master eventually.

Edit: I opened LW after a week or so. I cannot find any MagicMushrooms but know I have connected to them before. It sort of stands out as a name lol. I do not have my ban list in action outside of LW at moment but LW itself has quite a few as backup so I may have already banned those ranges.

Birdy suggests you see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/gettin...tml#post357497

BTW I am glad you understand about Forum posting protocol. I think we can excuse it on this occasion for the varied off-thread-topic. :) The fact you apologised for it helped. :D

Im also having an issue getting limewire to connect. I installed Dec Fix and the Java 7 fix. It no longer says install java 6 but now just opens a little black box, and then closes it just as fast. I cant read it before it closes.

Limewire 5.6.2
Windows 7 64bit.
Java 7 update 10

If you need more info let me know. And i hope someone knows whats up, and can tell me if I am doing something wrong. Kinda easy seeing how they install them self. :sos:

"Limewire could not find or load main class C:\ProgramFiles" And the rest i couldnt read in time haha doesnt help the little box has 3 spots it likes to randomly move to.

Lord of the Rings December 25th, 2012 12:46 AM

It's important that if you install Java 7 64-bit, you also install Java 7 32-bit. Very important you install the 32-bit Java last. Also important to set the Java installers to Run as Administrator. The latter seems to affect LW's ability to connect. The installing of 64-bit java last seems to make LW change its location of settings and download folders, so it would not be reading the new connection file. Installing the 32-bit java last makes it all go back to normal. I hope that did not sound confusing.
Your problem looks like the 64-bit Java issue which is when those pop-up error windows usually occur.

- If you installed 64-bit Java, then install 32-bit java with the installer permissions set to Run as Administrator.

The present version 'offline' 32-bit java installer: jre-7u10-windows-i586.exe,
after downloading, right-click the installer and choose Run as Administrator.

Let us know if this fixed the problem.

lastgateguard December 25th, 2012 01:56 PM

Nope still didn't work. Installed it as admin and still the little back box. Even uninstalled all java and lime wire and cracks for it. Ran as admin reinstalled and same thing. Very annoying bug, seeing as others got it working with little trouble.

Lord of the Rings December 25th, 2012 03:33 PM

Did you reboot your computer?

Other things I can think of trying:
Go to the programs folder, find LW and right-click and choose Properties, Owner tab, edit and add your admin account to it if it is not already listed.
Find the LW shortcut on desktop, right-click and choose Run as Admin.
Just to check the shortcuts installed properly, go the the LW program folder > lib > LimeWire.jar file and double-click it.

If those do not work, would you consider uninstalling 64-bit java and only utilizing the 32-bit Java?
Control panel > Programs & Features, find 64-bit Java and uninstall.

(Strange, I updated Java from 7_09 to 7_10, restarted computer and the Java CP still said I had version 7_09. Reinstalled with offline & same thing.)

Failing all of this, you may need to step back to Java 6. Disable or uninstall Java 7; disabling can be done via the Java control panel under the Java tab.

Did you get anywhere? I tried all the tips LOTR gave me and it didn't work. I had another user who was sorting of helping me and then started giving me weird nicknames, which didn't really help with Limewire.
