Oddly, there was no existing Java142Update2 in the Recepits folder. Even so, I get the same error.

JavaSecurityUpdate4 would allow itself to be installed. However, Limewire still refuses to start up.

Other than the radical of reinstalling OS, lol :D You could try a couple of other things. 1. Delete the LW Preference file found here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

2. Set up a new user account & log into it, & see if LW will launch from there. At least that should show whether it's the Java or not that's the issue. After all, the problem only surfaced after the update right?

3. I guess you could try this version HERE to see if it makes any difference. (Probably won't!)

This might be well worth viewing & trying out: LW on OSX.3.9 fixed :0) (Click on link) by leopard_pagan! Thank you leopard_pagan if it helps some other OSX users! ;) :)

Looks like the easy fix, credited to kc8apf http://forums.macrumors.com/showthre...61#post1389161 , is to reinstall the second last security update--the one with all the java parts

http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...34orlater.html

If the security update won't install, just move the SecUpd2005-002Pan.pkg receipt out of the hard drive /Library/Receipts folder and try again.

Doesn't work for me ! :((When I move SecUpd2005-002Pan.pkg and try to open it, I get an error msg : "can't find the archive file"

Anyone can help ?

Gil

I haven't attempted the fix using the terminal.

What I might suggest is re-installing Java using the "Offline" standalone Java installer. There's a choice of a few. The one the article suggested is this one: http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...acosx1039.html

However, I've found most people seem to get it fixed using this one: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...update142.html

If it doesn't allow you to install it, then remove the java142.pkg from the Receipts folder. You'll find it here Receipts folder sample image

SecUpd2005-002Pan.dmg won't install

From all the great responses, I thought this would work perfectly.
My problem is the same as everyone else, crashing LW.
I followed all the suggestion, and each time I rty to install SecUpd2005-002Pan.dmg, it won't let me. It tells me I can't install on this colume because it does not contain a version of Java Web Start that needs updating.

Is there something else that I can try?

Thanks for any help.

Apply the same principle. Remove the equivalent pkg file from the receipts folder & try again.

Lord of the Rings:

Thank you for your help.

But nothing has worked for me, and it was too much.

I bought and installed Tiger, and everything seems to be working fine now.

It was either that, or become bald.

Again, thank you.

I also haven't paid for an new subscription to Norton. I don't really care about the virus updates since they're all for windows. Glad to hear you solved your issue anyway! ;)

I've done all the advice on this thread, but still cannot get Limewire basic to startup. I've got a bobbing icon, which then stops..and nothing.

I've tried installing Java and security updates recommended but it would not let me as I don't have a version which needs updating apparently.

Can anyone help? Please.

Thanks
