submit the report to Apple, again and again and again.

They will not respond, but it will be tallied and we been waiting for Apple to fix its java for a long time. Maybe your report will be the one that finally encourages them to put out a fixed java installer.

security update won't install

I'm having the classic 10.3.9 limewire won't start problem...Tried a few fixes mentioned....

The security update won't install..I removed the file from the receipts folder as mentioned...still no go?..I get an error saying the my volume doesn't have a version of Java Web Start that needs updating?? Along with a big red exclaimation point!

My hunch is that there were software updates downloaded that were for tiger and not Panther...and that may be causing the problem...

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks

in case you didn't try reinstalling java, here's the link http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/java.html

stief,

Yeah, I already tried that...no luck...still getting the same message after the Java reinstall..

Anyone know how to get past this Java Web Start problem?

Thanks
K

there's a version of Java Webstart in the Applications/Utilities/Java folder.

The red arrow means you have a more recent version installed, and thus the installer won't overwrite a newer version.

So, try deleting the version of WebStart that you have (and the receipt, if merely removing the Web Start doesn't work).

Check, too, if you have any login items ticked in the System Prefereces->Accounts->Login Items. A safe boot should disable any of those, so you could try installing java while in safe boot mode.

I'm having trouble with my limewire as well. I thought that it was a problem with I tunes blocking it b/c I updated at the same time it stoped working. I have the new frostwire.

I downloaded the latest update and installed. I also checked to make sure that the file was not in my reciepts folder (and it wasn't there)...Still is not working. Won't start at all, it just bounces in the dock once and then stops.

Any other ideas?

Safe boot & repair permissions. Get the jum version LW & see if that helps. You will find the link (indirectly) for it earlier in this thread.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure I know how to do this. I've had macs forever, and I work on them everyday, but I've never had a problem like this. I'm not sure how to do what you posted above.

Right now I have:

Quicktime 7.1.3
I tunes 7.0.2
mac os X 10.3.9

I read through all of the suggestions here. First I removed the reciepts mentioned and tried to install the plug in listed, it didn't work. When I tried it again with the other receipt, my computer would not let me install (as some people mentioned). Eventaully, I was able to reload the java with the link posted at the top of the last page. I tried to revert back to older versions of Quicktime, but the links listed here didn't work, and I couldn't find an older version on my own.

If you could just help walk me through my next step it would be great.

Thank you so much, I'm really trying to get this limewire working, I paid for the upgrade and it hasn't worked for over a month

see if reinstalling java will help. Here's a thread where the fellow got his LW working again by reinstalling java http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...tml#post267159

Here's the link for the 10.3 java update Apple - Support - Downloads - Java for Mac OS X 10.3 Update 5

You'll have to find the appropriate receipt in the Library to delete first

Hi Stief,

Thanks so much. I did what you said. Downloaded, looked in reciepts. Didn't see a 1.4.2 there. Then I downloaded it. Do you think I need 1.4.2 in the first place since this was an update.

I am posting my reciepts here..Maybe someone can tell me why this still isn't working...Hope this isn't too much:
