Do you use file extractor tool like winrar or 7zip? If not try to use winrar or 7zip, downloaded it from here: 7-Zip Install it and extract the installer file... |
Edit: Filegirl was faster |
i have i mac..does that make any difference? I have i mac...make any difference? |
Yes iam afraid so...For my release is for Windows only, but you can download it for Mac here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/gettin...e-edition.html Go down on the page and download it from where it says Mac Versions...You will then resive a .dmg file!:) |
i got it. thanks to all. i found it from someone else on the board. filegirl, you were a great help! pooter |
Thanks, just glad i could help you out! :-) |
I love it when filegirl responds to every message and I get to look at her bouncing again and again. Pretty and smart too. Zowie. Thanks for the work girl!!!!!!! |

I guess i iam glad i could do some entertaining here as well....Thanks boy's and girl's! |
i give up. I tried to two choices for i mac version pirate. I got it downloaded but like the first time i did this...when i finally push the icon..nothing at all happens. I give up. Can someone who has the pirate version downloaded go look up "clive" and see if they can come up with his last name. I heard clive davies sing and it doesn't sound like him. i know one of his few songs had the word paris in it. I would sincerely appreciate it. Thank you. |
There's lots of other mac versions you can try http://www.gnutellaforums.com/mac-os...link-here.html but you will need to use File_Girl's fix for the connection. Will also receive the legal notice on main window, I just ignore it. Pirate version runs fine on my mac using Snow Leopard. Pirate version is only compatible with Snow Leopard OSX 10.6 .. or those running intel macs with Leopard OSX 10.5. If you have OSX 10.4 or earlier, then you are restricted to LW 4. If you have Leopard OSX 10.5 but do not have an intel mac computer, you are also restricted to LW version 4. |
Snow Leo on Intel Mac here. It had the last official release of limewire installed. I uninstalled it and removed receipts and preferences which might remember that install. Could not find any further file, where information about that install is stored. Nevertheless, the installer still tells something like „On your volume had already been installed a newer version, you cannot install this one.” - Well, and after loading the installer to the USB-stick: The installer installs on the stick, but starting limewire produces a limewire sign showing up for a moment in the dock and disappears. No further positive effect. Any advice? Or in such case stay cool and just use another client for a while? |
Sounds like you still have a version of LW installed on your computer. Go to applications folder using the Go menu, find LW & send to trash & empty. Try installing again. :) I received a message about newer version when i installed LPE, but I just clicked yes to ok to install anyway. It runs fine. |
I had removed anything reachable of the old limewire installation, but can't find the file still initiating the message about „a newer client” already installed. Old McFreak might share an enlightenment about that with me. However, i needed to get clear, whether a happy pirate is pulling my legs. A clean sys install on a remote volume, booting there, and starting the client gave the answer: It's working like a charm! :D Fine piece of software! Thanks for that one folks! I'll try to return something through the forums and write along the gnutella project at another place in cyberspace ... :whistling: |
Words cannot express my gratitude for the pirate edition. Let's keep it free for all to enjoy. |
Hey :D Robert here from Evolution Reloaded. I PM'd you, meta, don't know if it went through or not because it's not in my sent box. But you're going to want to update the mirrors from evolutionreloaded. The website closed down and I moved to a different web server with uncapped speeds so if your home connection is 100mbps, the download will be pretty much instant. Windows: http://www.reloaded-designs.com/down...ateEdition.exe Mac: http://www.reloaded-designs.com/down...ateEdition.dmg Linux: http://www.reloaded-designs.com/down...ateEdition.deb I also setup a download page with my own custom made logo and description :D Downloads - Reloaded Designs The old mirrors should be completely down in about 3 days, if not, they'll be up until the end of the month. Keep up the :super:ness |
I tried to download again..the imac one I did the download from the last transmission on this site...above me?...and it is downloaded on my desktop. But it won't do anything. I can't even get it to go over to my stuff at the bottom of the screen..you know..were itunes is and safari. What am i missing? I don't even get a message saying nothing to open it with. |
same thread when i do hit it with my mouse...it pops up in the menu area and then pops away. |
You sound like a Mac OSX user. Presently both the above & the links on the first page are still working. Normally as soon as you have finished downloading the DMG file will automatically open (mount on the desktop). Double-click the installer inside of it. Sometimes the installer is slow to open. To use this version of LimeWire, you must be using OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard, OR using an intel computer & at least OSX 10.5 Leopard. |
i have a 10.5.8 |
Try installing into a different account see if that works. ;) I presume you have an intel mac then? |
jeez louise i have a mac osx. When they ask me where to install it...i put it in the picture of the computer..cause thats the only option i have. and its in there..but goes nowhere from in there, either. |
Sorry, are you saying you are trying to drop the Limewire icon on to picture of the computer? That's not how you do it. You click on the picture of the computer to select it as the target of the installation. |
I can promise there's nothing wrong with those installers :) I've used them all myself. |
From the finder's GO menu, choose Applications, find the LimeWire you installed & open it from there. I notice in your first posts on the forum 3 years ago you were using an iMac, is it a G5 or intel iMac? intel iMacs came out in 2006. |
I got it before 2006..so it must be a g5. i went to finders and did that and now i have two icons on my desktop..,one with an arrow and the other encased in a box. Neither go anywhere. Maybe i should shut down my computer...??? |
You will be unable to use the Pirate LW version on your version of iMac unless you upgrade to Snow Leopard OSX 10.6. If you do not do that, then you are limited to LW 4 versions; found here. |
Some gripes about LW 5: 1. I cannot believe the LW programmers were not aware or forward thinking enough to add the .m4v extension to video types of files. It's easy to say that's dumb now. In LW 4 & unless I'm mistaken some earlier versions of LW 5, users could add their own extensions. With LW 5.5 & Pirate version such .m4v files are categorised into the 'Other' types of files, with no information on them at all. I duplicated one video m4v file, changed the extension to mp4, and the hits became over 20,000 compared to the m4v version which had 60 hits in the 'Other' category both in 'shared' at same time from restart of LW. By changing the extension to mp4, QuickTime is unable to see the custom chapters (VLC can however.) 2. LW never re-added the Library description ability which LW 4 had. Nor did they return the option for extended tooltips. This was one of the major things that held me back from upgrading to LW 5 full-time. Try adding a description to a video file & see what happens. Nothing. Video files do include date & rating, but not much more. No actual custom description. Likewise for other types of files except mp3 & perhaps images. With LW 4 using the advanced description tool, you could add different kinds of descriptions to any file & even have the file multi categorised. 3. LW 5 does not accept less than 3 letter extensions in it's extension filter. Try filtering out .qt .. the only way to do it is to use the Keyword filter. |
OH I forgot to say, whatever extensions are filtered in LW 5, are also removed from Shared. Example: if you filter out .mov, then any .mov files you are sharing are removed from Shared. That's a simple example. That's unless you use the keyword filter instead of extensions filter. This only applied to LW 5, not LW 4. |
Been mountain climbing in Mongolia. But I am back now. |

Cool thanks, that would be fantastic if these can be worked on. I didn't expect anybody would respond or seriously consider these issues. Oh further on (1), Quicktime player is unable to recognise the file if the file has an ac3 audio stream & has the mp4 file extension, so must remain m4v for those that use QT player. I sometimes use ac3 passthrough (ie: same as original source, no re-conversion.) QT player needs the Perian codec to play ac3 audio anyway. (3); although in most cases the word filter can be used instead, there are risks it may in fact filter out good results when the title has been abbreviated. I've seen such video titles but cannot remember a good example at present or which extension it was affecting. Of course people will not know if they have already added extensions to the word or ext. filter. :D (2); really refers to two tools (extended tooltips, and description tool); yes I imagine this would be harder. But would really be a great thing if it can be done. Unless I'm mistaken, from memory, some of the earlier LW 5 versions (not the very first ones) did have ability for video description. But LW removed it again. Feel free to correct me on that. It seemed LW dev team held the description tool as a low priority issue according to my previous discussions with personnel. lol :D Descriptions DO help files get found. Even using LW 5. I give a file out of a set of similar files a description. Within short time it gets hit after hit whereas the other files in same set do not get hits. Extended tooltips never made it to LW 5. So I guess would mean looking back at LW 4. But that is not necessarily a bad thing to do looking back at what was left out of LW 5 & how they achieved those tools. LW 4's advanced description tool was very good, could add descriptions to multi files at once also which was very handy when you have a large no. of shares with same or similar description. Then just adding the custom description to each if necessary. Saved a lot of time. LW 5's description tool only allows you to add to one file at a time (not to mention its limitation to what types of files you can add descriptions to.) Extended Tooltips gave a lot of extra information, not only descriptions. But other data also. It saved a lot of time with the ability to just hover the cursor over the file to obtain the information. I had other things in LW's improvements or additions on their dev site. Maybe a little too much to consider for adding for you lot. lol :D But I can mention a couple I recall off-hand. (a) Adding a java based bitzi tool for shared files. Only the windows version has an interface & all versions of bitcollider from the official site have not been updated in many years. LW devs seemed very interested in this concept of adding it to LW. ie: people add bitzi (bitprint) details for their shared files to Bitzi site via LW itself in a similar way as can be done using Bitcollider. I had suggested perhaps they base it off jBitcollider since it is a java design version. The benefits of making it easy for people to add their own bitprints of their shared files to Bitzi speaks for itself I guess. (b) A Parental control. Not that I'd use it lol. Not a difficult concept IMHO. Some other gnutella clients have such a tool. Password based to prevent changes to major preferences being made. This would appease parents. They have been calling out for this at least since I joined these forums. Thus parents could add porn, etc. keywords (& perhaps limit file types) & lock the settings so their children can use LW without that same level of fear of them downloading the wrong things. |

I love limewire till it was ordered to shutdown and miss it dearly but there is some confusion i read over versions and pirate edition. I read that dont use 5.5.10 or above ok is it safe to use 5.4.5.0 or do you suggest going with the pirate version? I have used 5.4.5.0 since december i was using 5.2.8.0 when my nephew got a virus from a video download and never try to clean it and i had to restore my hard drive which was a maxtor 120GB and not partitioned so i lost everything so i learned the hard way. After the redo i partitioned to 40GB each and if it did not happen again this time i was safe for i downloaded to a different file on partition E and all was still safe after runing a virus scan and it was gone no C drive to redo this time. Then i went with 5.4.5.0 and have had no issues till i seen the welcome banner this is a legal notice that limewire has been ordered by the courts to stop it's file sharing software. i was like no way but it was true and i hate that. any advice would be helpful |
Anything below 5.5.10 is safe to use. But you will probably have connection issues. You can see the connection help pages about how to fix. ;) You could see the http://www.gnutellaforums.com/gettin...-5-5-16-a.html to see what changes were made (only gives brief summary of changes.) The 5.6 betas and Pirate Edition are safe to use. |
Thanks very much but no luck trying to connect so i read the connection forum you suggested where should i download the file to the C:\ drive or desktop? |
If you download File_Girl's Fix which is an installer, it will install the connection file for you. Else, it does not matter where you actually download it to. Just as long as you can find it. Desktop might be easier to find. :) |

If you found an iFileIt link, it's probably out of date. I just posted the updated link via File_Girl a day ago. ;) The iFileIt link for File_Girl's Fix is one I've probably missed updating or removing. Apologies. :o File_Girl generally uses 4Shared, I generally use iFileIt & only occasionally 4Shared. |
Thanks for your help! I downloaded the Limewire girl fix application and it works! Thank you! |
hello from N9UNQ. file_girl71 picture is great. I am curious, about the LW pirate. Do's it just overwrite the LW version that I have now or is it set up as a new program? I have downloaded a different version to free downloads that I have been using since the October freeze on LW. That is Frostwire. I have had no problems but are there any clues out that this is a bad version? Thanx 4any reply. Rich (N9UNQ) HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone. |
If a windows user, you have two options, the regular LW Pirate Edition, or File_Girl's slightly different version of same program. She removed the AV which does not work for many people anyway, & added a different startup window. The LPE works well, connects well. Has no legal warning in the main window when you first open. Support link is the Gnutella forum. lol :D LPE connects to 5 Ultrapeers instead of 3, so in many ways operates like LW Pro. |
* One thing I'd like to see changed in the LPE is the ban hosts option. It is far too close to the Browse Host option. A few times I've accidentally banned hosts when all I was wanting to do was browse them. oops!!! And with pseudo usernames instead of ip addresses, it's almost impossible to remove accidentally banned ip addresses because we don't know which are which. The change I'd like to see is (a) the ban option moved to a different location. (b) have an option like Phex, where the default option is to only ban for session, only an advanced ban will give option of a permanent ban. After all, so many spammers use dynamic ip addresses anyway. * Bring back more information for information window for files being transferred. LW removed such details in LW 5.5 or 5.4 in an attempt to keep the anonymity of the users. |
At first all was well with FileGirl's program. Now I'm getting down load speeds in the single kbs range. Yes single even when connected to multiple peers. Any thoughts anyone? |
Have you tried rebooting computer &/or restarting LW? Have uploads also slowed down? Do you show as firewalled (tools > advanced tools)? What's your connection status (weak, medium, full, turbo)? Do you only see slow speeds at certain times of day? Try changing ports: In LW tools > options > advanced > listening ports. Change listening port to 65000, or something in the range of 49152 - 65535 > ok. If you have port forwarding set up, you'll need to change the 'manual port forward' number > ok & then also change the forwarded port number within your router config. And don't forget to also change the port allowed through your software firewall. |
Problem persists through several reboots and restarts of Lime. Time of day is irrelevent to the problem and I haven't looked at uploads. I'm behind a firewall and support firewall transfers. I have 5 bars showing. I changed port to 65000. I don't know how to change my software firewall but I'll look around. I have one download working and no uploads. The download varies aroundd 20 kbs from 9 users. Thanks for your help. |
Tried searching for fresh hosts? ie: re-search each file that's slow. Generally, this has always worked for me for years. And 5 mins or more later using the Get More Results option. Sounds like your software firewall or router is firewalling your LPE in part. Might need to add fresh exception for LPE. One way is go to your control panel, open up the firewall from there & use the Add option from the Exceptions tab window. I presume you are only using one software firewall & not two. Two software firewalls can cause issues, & may actually result in less security & not more due to their clashes. And may cause issues for LW. |
Hi yummy....I mean Bo: Its sped up now that I've made the previously made changes but hardly turbo charged. But I'm on a hotel WiFi right now and its bouncing around a lot. I'll let it go as is until I can get this laptop on a hard wire. Only one firewall and I'll try your suggestions if necessary. Thanks |
