Okay, I am having issues with the installer. It runs fine until it begins to connect, at which point the message "This installation is corrupted. Please download and install LimeWire again." is displayed. I've searched all over, and I can't find anything to help. I'm running Windows XP. Anything else that you need to know, feel free to ask. I miss LimeWire. |
Have you tried File_Girl's installer, found on first page of this thread. ;) http://www.gnutellaforums.com/gettin...tml#post359817. Try right-clicking installer & choose Run as Admin. This might help fix the issue. |
Her download link takes me to an expired page. |

I read that you think AVG is a "Useless pail of Crapp!", File_Girl71 . What other free antivirus program do you recommend? |
Hi all.. I am now rocking lwpe... loving it, would be nice to get rid of the intro screen. Luv it thanks so much I have added 10k shares.. should help the community. I think it is worth it to switch from older versions. Does the pirate edition tie into the old share network or is this one separate? |

LWPE connects to the same Gnutella network as ever :) |
I am using pe ver 5.6.2 Actually I got it frum Demonoid. I didn't know about this site at that time. No it is not the one by file girl though it is tempting to use that one. I am a little concerned that if I switch to that one, I may loose my settings. It is not super hard to set up, but does take time. I think they should have just called it "Limewire pe" with no pirates on the screen. When I first loaded it, I was concerned that I had loaded a virus or something. It is a little difficult for the average user to trust something that says pirate and has pirates on it. Feels like you are being hijacked or something. That aside.. seems to work fine though in my seeds I seem to get allot of "Invalid request" errors from downloaders.. I am assuming that it may have something to do with firewalls though I have opened a port for mine. |
I think the splash screen there is meant to be a bit of a joke. Years ago there was a video on youtube about LW & the splash screen seems to be a snapshot from that: YouTube - You are a pirate Yes you could lose your settings (though not your saved files, providing that you saved to a safe location & not within Program Files etc) if you switched versions. If you wanted to switch at any stage, you'd need to back up LW's preferences folder before switching & then replace the prefs folder with your backup, once you'd installed the new version. If you ever do want to switch, check out this thread for the location of LW's preferences folder & other important info regarding incomplete downloads: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...ng-should.html Important - if you ever want to replace the preferences folder, LW must be properly closed first. Check in Task Manager... if there's a LW process running, end the process. Replace the folder & then restart LW - your old preferences should be in place :) Quote:
You can check your firewall status within Tools > Advanced Tools. There you'll see whether you're behind a firewall & whether or not you support transfers. |
Thanks for the advice.. I'll look into that before I change to another ver. Not Torents..I use utorent for those. I really only use lime for music. I actually did that with the advanced tools to make sure my port forward worked. I believe it may be something on their end as most downloads are fine but certain users are having problems and their file requests are bad. Probably about 1 in 10 It is nothing I can fix as my side seems fine. I realize the splash screen is a joke.. my point was only that it is not confidence inspiring |
Finally the link to my LPE is updated and working...Enjoy if you like it!!!;) |
There's only a minor chance your LW main settings would be changed. Perhaps things like program interface size, columns to show etc might be lost. At worst, your shares information might be lost. In case you wished to know, the important files to backup from the LW preferences folder are: (note: you may not see the .dat extension if your system is set not to show file extensions:) library5.dat = lists all your "shared" files. (I occasionally back this up, because I have 3 sets of shares for different purposes. eg: mostly music, or mostly videos, etc. Also in case something happens, I can always use the backup.) library.dat = lists sensitive folders & files not to share. This file is not so important. (LW 4 used this file-name for the equivalent of library5.dat's purpose.) downloads.dat = keeps record of the file download history & % downloaded of each file downloading. This is a very important file. These files should never be returned to the LW preferences folder to replace others when LW is open, else they will simply be written over with whatever settings LW is presently using. spam.dat = keeps record of types of files marked as spam. tables.props = lists custom set tables & their widths. limewire.props = General settings. Includes interface size, filtered extensions & keyword filter, banned ip addresses, up/download settings, etc. gnutella.net = connection file. fileurns.cache, not sure the purpose, but related to files "shared". This one could be worth backing up if backing up library5.dat ttdata.cache, not sure the purpose of this file. Quote:

2 Attachment(s) I've discovered a little more about the "Invalid Request" message. Whilst I suggested this was previously known to happen when the upload file has been removed from the shared folder since after beginning the LW session, this is also true, I tested it. The files that seem to get that message in general seem to be incomplete files. With so many shares I didn't notice until now. LW 5.5 & I'm guessing the earlier LW 5 versions also, had no user control over whether incomplete files were shared using the partial-file-sharing technique. Partial-file-sharing is done by default in LW 5. In LW 4, the user had a choice whether to allow partial-file-sharing or not. Partial-file-sharing is where you share parts of the file as you are downloading the file. Much of the file transfers on the gnutella network is done via this technique. Torrents also use this same partial file sharing technique. I'm "guessing" it may be related to upload settings, I'm not sure if partial-file-sharing in LW 5.5 takes into account upload slots & bandwidth set by the user, but either or both of these things may be affecting it. Once I set my upload slots lower, I received this message. When I set my upload bandwidth down very low, the message seemed to come very frequently. And this was via mostly different users for the same incomplete file I was still downloading. I don't usually cut my bandwidth down by much, but I do sometimes cut my upload slots if several large files such as videos are being uploaded. Means they get faster & regular speeds. Otherwise for some reason, if I have many small files being uploaded at same time as several very large ones with many upload requests, my upload bandwidth jumps all about even down to zero at times. Odd. But on this occasion it was purely an experiment where I cut the bandwidth down very low. My only other thought is, the users programs are requesting parts of the incomplete file I do not yet have. And LW is mistakenly notifying via the incomplete window about this error. In the last example, I had 25-35% of the (video) file completed. Attachment 6681 lol just after posting this I noticed a regular shared music concert video file I have with same message in upload window. Then a small file with same message a few minutes later despite pushing my bandwidth back up. My above hypothesis was was perhaps partially correct lol, it might be related to error messages within the program, not enough slots or not enough bandwidth, but the messages being mistakenly reported to the upload window perhaps. The image below was after a couple greedy people tried to select many files to download at once. A & B were about 5 mins apart. Attachment 6683 And then another different incomplete file with same message a couple mins apart, whilst a couple people were peaking my upload bandwidth with music & video uploads. Perhaps this post does not say anything. lol :D Anybody with any ideas? Edit 3 July 2011: (Edit August) I had thought problem might be caused by using LW 4's old preferences with no to partial file sharing. But after removing this line from the preferences, still seem to get the error. I suspect the problem is a bug. The Invalid Request seems to occur for both incomplete & shared files. Especially but not only if the person is trying to upload too many files. Seems to happen mostly if they are waiting in queue for a slot. This is one reason LPE always seems to run best upon a clean install with no previous LW preferences. ;) That includes removing LW Basic or LW Pro preferences. |
ciao a tutti |
I would like to thank File_Girl71 :aweof: and if you change a setting in tools>options>upload/download Limits (configure) you will get files much faster (if your ISP don't throttle you down):( see attached |
is there a guide somewhere for LW pirate? the guide for the original is no longer accessible. thank you. |

LW did not have a downloadable guide for LW 5. The previous downloadable guide they had was for early LW 4. The reason they refused to make it downloadable was they said to me, the program goes through so many changes so frequently, meaning one downloadable version might be out of date within months. And LW 5 did go through considerable changes over it's time. And had considerable differences to LW 4 on top of that. ;) I do definitely need to add & upgrade some 'How to do's' with LW 5. I've been thinking recently about posting advice on general downloading with LW 5. Tips & tools that some people don't realise, also advice about how best to go about things. Some things in LW 5 were never completed by the developers, and at least for MacOSX there are some remaining bugs. Not sure if these apply to Windows but my guess is at least a couple of them do. Of course these bugs passed across to LPE. I've used both LW 5.5 Pro & LPE in depth. |

OK that evolution reloaded link is now dead. |
Some links did die, that's why the first post on the first page of this thread was updated more than once. :) There's also File_Girl's version in the following post. The AVG no longer works in any version of LW, so no point in even having it. File_Girl removed it before the AV stopped working. |

Too bad about AVG because it did save me from quite a few bad files. |

U don't know what windows os means? I am disabled. I just want my file shared moves and stuff. I have Windows Vista, iGB RAM Processor Intel core duo. HP Pavillion Laptop System type 32 bit |
I dont know whATwindows os means and i can;t find my quick replyy |
Windows OS means Windows Operating System. Example: Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, etc. etc. .. OS = Operating System .. so it is asking which one you are using. :) umm you just did a quick reply by the looks lol. The difference is you simply type in what you wish to reply & press reply button. Advanced has more text formatting options. :) |
i got the pirate edition off and it is good for me |
I cant get File girls Limewire pirate to open It is a rar file. i Have the offline Java on my desktiop. Technically challenged also. Windows Vista Any help would be apppreciated? |
Several utilities that will open RAR files. WinRar, 7-zip, & TugZip, among others. The latter two are 100% free. If choosing 7-zip, I guess the first listed on the download list will probably work ok for you. If not, try the 2nd. Depends whether your Vista system runs as 32 or 64 bit. I would recommend you right-click the Java installer & choose Run As Administrator, before installing. Likewise for the LimeWire Pirate Edition installer. Doing this tends to solve some potential issues in either Vista or Windows 7. :) |
Just tried to use file girl's OSX fix. I get an alert saying the install anywhere evaluation period has ended and won't continue. Anyone have another link to this file please or another fix for this problem of installation? Thank you. |
Yes, she is working on a new installer presently but using different installer software. She may take a little time learning how to use the new installer maker software however. In meantime, you can use fresh gnutella.net file from here: Gnutella.net. Click Request Download Ticket, then Download button on following page in exact same location of the page. To replace your old gnutella.net file, see instructions here Replacing the gnutella.net file in the LW Preferences folder for Mac OSX :) |
Got fresh gnutella.net file and replaced via instructions. No connection. Any other thoughts? Or will I have to wait for file girls fix? Running: g4 dual 1.25, 10.5.8. limewire 4.16.7, Java 1.5.0.28 |

I would suggest you try different Gnutella.net files to see which one works. The one I uploaded a few days ago (originated from OSX & now hosted at iFileit) I just tried out for Windows 2000, with LW 4.16.7 & it connected very quickly. Other things to try listed here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html :) |
The LPE Download links from the ac1d site in the first post on page 1 of this thread have all expired, instead use the reloaded-designs links on the first page. |
Java Memory issues for large settings files ! One problem I find with LPE & all the LW 5 versions is the Library concept. LW 5 loads the library in almost a similar fashion it loads Shared files. Thus there is a massive extra load on the program. Depending on how much extra load, after a period of operation a common error message to receive is, 'LimeWire encountered a problem ..." pop-up message. LW then must be closed & re-opened to refresh. Also if you do have a large library, frequently LW will start to lag & become slow after a period of time. On a mac with a large library, after 10+ minutes I find opening the preferences window & attempting to switch preference tabs will result in the program freezing. Something else that adds to the load on LW is having a large ban list. This has a similar effect as having a large Library list of files. Yet the ban list is stored in limewire.props file, the shares & library in library5.dat file. I am constantly backing up my limewire.props file, because every once in a while, LW will wipe it clean after a crash. With large library, large shares or/& large ban list, LW also becomes slow to write to the limewire.props or library5.dat file. Thus some things may not get written to the limewire.props file for up to or over 15 minutes. Also after opening LW, it may take LW a while to read the entirety of limewire.props file. I discovered this with the ban list. * I think ideally, some of the options in the limewire.props file such as banned list should be separated into their own file. Thus less lines for the program to search through, read & write to. The library5.dat file should be split into two (or more) files, one for shares, one for library. I don't think programs read large text settings files very efficiently once they reach a certain size. For java based programs, it means Java memory errors! Alternative answers? VM or seeking extra system RAM when needed for Java? Java really shows it's limitations when lots is loaded into it. And my console shows the errors are Java memory based when the program starts to lag & eventually crash. I have 16 GB RAM & 4 x 1 TB Hard Disk drives. Lots of alternative memory locations that could be used. LW only uses a very small portion of my RAM, about 300 MB of RAM. Having option to enable extra RAM or VM could be highly beneficial. I guess in similar way Photoshop allows you to set portion of system RAM it utilizes. (BTW I greatly dislike LW 5's library concept being treated similarly to shares. For a large library, it means problems.) |
Library Do's the library in the LWE keep your music in a total file for itself or do's the download go to the file you want it saved in? When I had the MMJB I found that the libray for it was just like a list of libray files tellimg where the music actually was in the pc files. I thought that was how the LWE did it. I was able to add to the library and it would come back asking if I wanted to replace any duplicates or add all music also. I didn't actually have 2 complete files of the music which would take up a lot of space. Have a good one. Rich:xeri_ok1ani: |
I have been using LPE and came across the problem of while dl several avi they stalled when I tried to fix stall nothing worked. when I refresh the host everything cleared and when I try to search again no results are found. how can this be fixed so I can find those files |
Chances are they are offline. Unfortunately, people's shares remain in the general hash search domain for some time even if they have logged off or crashed from using their particular gnutella program client. But then, there are also some who either (a) have upload slots set to zero, or (b) remove their shares as they download them (but their shares are still added to the shared files search domain for a period of time.) Of course other reasons such as the uploader's upload slots are all busy & you are unable to get a download slot after a period of time. Sometimes due to them only having one or two upload slots open which means attempted downloads from them die easily & quickly slip into 'Need More Resources, or 'Stalled'. Much advice on this topic .. even though some of it now a little old, has been given in this forum section: Download/Upload Problems Basic issue is, people come & go from the network continuously. So the shares change. Searching, then 4-5 mins later using the 'Get/Find More Results' tool frequently helps here. Also, (1) the longer you are connected to the network, the better your search results should be, & (2) the more files you share, especially if they are related to the kinds of files you are seeking, then the better your search results should be. Have a good decent upload bandwidth setting, sharing lots of files, have at least several upload slots open, then search results will improve notably. Hopefully you will notice this with testing. ;) For those who do not wish to give much in the way of sharing either number of files, or upload slots or upload bandwidth, their search results tend to be somewhat limited & closed just as their minds are. (Edit: forgot to mention: When you choose a file to download, it needs to first download the Hash of the file. Without this, the file will not download. So if LPE is unable to at least download the hash of the file first, it will highly unlikely ever start to download during that or later sessions even if you come across same/identical files in search results in later sessions. LPE only shows hash being downloaded by others in the upload window, not for your downloads in the download window unfortunately. So you never know if your attempted downloads have downloaded the hash or not (unless the file has started to download at some point.)) |
i've been using an old version of limewire foreever. 4.18.8 and recently it stopped connecting. so i downloaded the pirate edition and that just stalls at connecting as well. forgive me for not reading thru 14 pages of posts but its worked fine for months after the injuctions.... whats going on now? any way to get it working again? |
Hi gerard143, Depending on whether you'd prefer to keep using LW 4 or go to LW 5 (LWPEdition), there are fixes to try in the links below: If LW 4 Will Not Connect If LW 5 Will Not Connect If you're still stuck then please post back with your system details as shown in those links. |
Help! :sos: :hrm: :welcomegnut: I keep finding files saying This MP3 is illgal go to gatewaymp3.com to download this for free.:bangh: What about speaking to Malwarebytes and see if there is any chance of getting there antivirus included as its really good :super: |

With some more experience you will probably be able to identify such spam files in your search results. Look at such things as file size, bit-rate, length of song, album if listed, etc. If you know a little about audio files, you will know that bit-rate & file size per time-length of the song are partly related. Do not download audio files that do not show bit-rates. Any file less than 2 MB (2,000 KB) is probably either spam or not what you are looking for if you are searching for music. You can use your search filter to filter search results via size. ;) If list search results in Classic mode, you can list songs via bit-rate via clicking the Bit-rate column heading. Right-click the heading column bar to get menu to see more options if you do not see bit-rate column. :) (I edited your first post so it does not show a live active weblink. There are options when posting or editing in advanced mode to not link/retrieve/parse.) :) |
Ok gang , my pirate limewire is not connecting to the internet ; is there a problem ; is it related to the news report that was on the radio 3 days ago about limewire agreeing to pay 100 million dollars in damages ??? |
Sorry , as you were , it seems to have fixed itself now ; |
never had a problem before, but today I started up LWPirate and all i get is "LimeWire is connecting..." forever. |
1. Try rebooting computer. 2. Try rebooting router. 3. The following things should not be necessary, but worth trying: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html Example, sometimes disabling TLS can help with connecting. Another option of course is deleting your LW preferences folder, saving your downloads.dat & possibly your library5.dat files. |
Do i reboot the router by just switching my bigpond 2wire modem off and then on ??? |

Is there anybody else in the household who uses LW? If worse comes to worst, delete the LW preferences folder, uninstall LW, & then reinstall LW LPE. Run it once, then close. Then replace the new Downloads.dat file with one you backed up. LPE seems to work well on clean installs. LPE installer links are found in post #1 on page 1 of this thread. References to deleting the LW preferences folder & saving the Downloads.dat file: Windows and MacOSX. On Windows, if you have system settings set to hide file extensions, then the downloads.dat file will simply be called downloads. If you still have problems after this, then looks like the problem is something else, perhaps the router configuration (or/& home network setup if running a network.) However, BigPond are not the most trustworthy ISP out there, some of their services do have limitations. Especially their radio wireless services. And on topic of BigPond, if requested by USA's RIAA & their Australian office about file sharing by anybody, they do not respect the persons privacy. USA executives at Telstra sell the company out I guess. Optus have been guilty of this also. iiNet on other hand refuse to give an inch, basically telling them where to go so to speak. lol |
