i'm going to try reinstalling java but what is the best way to do it
do i need to delete any thing before i do
and do i need to do it in a safe boot
etc

btw thanks for the help guys i do appreciate it

The update says it will completely remove/overwrite older stuff, so no special procedures are required.

you know, if you have the hardware test discs that came with your machine, checking the RAM might be a good idea too.

where i found the crash report was a little different to yours
i don't know if that makes a difference but heres a shot of it

well i can't seem to attach a file cos the file i have is too big
btw how many Kb is 102400 bytes any way

I thought the max size for an attachment was 100k which is 100,000 bytes.

the logs are either for the system Library or the user Library (~/Library).

bytes/1024=kilobytes. (just divide by 1000 to get a ballpark size)

btw if you click on the edit buttons on the extra posts, you can get at the delete checkbox and button.

Only 2 disks? Mine came in 4 disks! Plus I have a hardware test that came with the comp. Yo may hav hidden it away somewhere thinking it was not important.

nah i checked everything the only discs i got were the ones mentioned earlier

and seperatly i got the applecare protection plan which i have just installed and run(tech tool) and everything seems to be fine although i can't boot off that cd so it can't do the volume structure

Have you tried DiskWarrior, it's designed for checking & repairing directories & volume structure.
