As the title implies, I'm new to using LW.

I downloaded from the official site onto my Mac OS X. However, when I try to install LW, I am unable to do so. I double click on "Install LimeWire.app" but it doesn't open, and I can't install it.

I tried looking in the FAQ, but I couldn't find anything specifically addressing my problem.

I've moved your post into the OS X installation section. I'm not a Mac user so I can't help but try looking through the stickies at the top of this section. Also have a look in this section: General Mac OSX Support, you might find something to help.

Also try the forum search, at the top of the page
