Fails to install ....still

I tried everything you instructed Grandpa but no luck.....when I try to run it after installation I get as far as the language OPTIONS screen and it is "Blank" I get out of there and I try again and no luck....
What am I doing wrong........

Grandpa January 11th, 2006 08:31 PM

Have you tried the LimeWire offline installer. If you haven't follow the instructions I left before only use the offline installer's of Java and LimeWire.

dalbert January 12th, 2006 07:03 AM

I uninstalled both Java & Limewire and downloaded both "Offline" programs and tried to open Limewire to no avail, still get a Blank "Language Option" screen and it freezes.....

Lots of trouble with installation

1 Attachment(s)
I have tried every installation for Windows, the backup, the online installer, and the offline installer, and none have worked! This all started when it said there was an update for Limewire and I clicked on it to install. First, while installing, I recieved an error message saying this file could not be opened or something like that, then I recieved about 5 more. After it was finished it said the installation was corrupted and I have to install Limewire again. I looked all over and couldn't find a trace of Limewire left on my computer. So I went to www.limewire.com and tried every installation and got the same message as before. WHAT DO I DO!!??:(

mimicoboy January 13th, 2006 09:43 PM

Limewire

Make sure Limewire is not running in the lower right hand tray. Right click then exit Limewire. I hope this works.

Grandpa January 13th, 2006 10:15 PM

bad_doggy, dalbert

First uninstall Java and LimeWire if you can then follow the instructions below.

You will need to go to Start/Run type regedit into the box this will open the registry editor

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER go to software expand it look for Java Script if you find it delete it. Now collapse it.

Now go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE go to software expand it look for Java, LimeWire & Magnet delete them if you find them.Collapse it

Now go to HKEY_USERS go to S-1-5-21 the first one then go to software expand it look for java if you find it delete it. Collapse it. Close registry editor. After you complete this do a search for LimeWire and Java on your computer anything that comes up delete it.

Be careful when you are in the registry do not delete anything other than I listed above you can mess up your machine if you accidentally uninstall something or change your registry settings.

After you complete the above follow the instructions below.

You will need to install Java and LimeWire manually First go to the first link. You can find Links to java in there Download Java to your hard drive by putting a mark in the save to disc box. Save it to my documents or wherever you save downloads from the internet. Do the same with LimeWire the second link will take you there.

Now with that done click on start then control panel add/remove programs and see if Java is listed on the list if it is uninstall it. Do the same with LimeWire if the un installers were not loaded you may have to manually delete the files. But in most cases this is not necessary.

Now click on the Java installer you saved to your hard drive and follow the instructions after you have completed that do the same with LimeWire.

Please post back and let us know if it worked. If it did not I will give further instructions on manually deleting Java and LimeWire.

Nope still won't start........I get to the same point "Language Options" & it freezes, I'll try to find another program......Thanks for your help........Don

bad_doggy January 14th, 2006 09:48 PM

Thanks

Grandpa,
Thanks a bunch for all your help. I didn't need to do that last part though because everything started working before i needed to run my saved one. I don't know what the world would do without smart people like you. :)

FIREWALL AND ACCESS

Just downloaded Limewire. When I try to install it, it says that it is usually due to a firewall blocking limewires access to the internet and that i should grant the access.
I am very computer illiterate --- how do i override that firewall and grant access???

thanks
dc

Lord of the Rings January 20th, 2006 06:56 AM

See Connection problems? Check here first! as it gives you all the clues. ;)
A wise person would do these things 1st before installing LW. :)

Dougal January 23rd, 2006 06:48 AM

Hi folks

Finally had to register here after almost two weeks of trying, without success, to install Limewire:confused:

I have read this entire thread and tried all 'fixes' - still no good:confused:

I'm running XP-Pro on both my PC and my laptop. Both Windows installations are very recent. My laptop runs Limewire perfectly, but this darn PC wont!.

The application installs, but then stops at the 'Language Options' screen with a blank white window?

Running through a router, but the laptop works with it ok.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhgggg - pulling my hair out.

Can you help?

Lord of the Rings January 23rd, 2006 08:41 AM

It makes me nevous when people say they've tried everything. lol :D

Check these possibilities:
1. The way to fix the Blank screen on startup

2. GeoForce 3D setting

3. LW Language option showing blank screen

Thanks, will go try.

I meant 'everything' from this thread;)

Dougal January 23rd, 2006 09:08 AM

No wonder you're LORD of the rings:D :)

BRILLIANT - Thank you so much!

t'was the first one. I'm running XT800PE card.

Now I just have to remember to switch my ATI settings every time I use LW:mad:

kaigray January 24th, 2006 08:36 PM

Okay, i got it installed, however, i still cant get it to run. could this be an issue with my firewall?

Lord of the Rings January 24th, 2006 09:07 PM

kaigray have a look at suggestions to try earlier in the post. Particularly the one just further up the page about setting up your firewalls & modem/router under the link called 'Connection problems? Check here first!' Check those things 1st then try again. It's sometimes better to install Java 1st before LW using the "Offline" installer as compared to the online method.

kaigray January 26th, 2006 04:37 PM

Lord of the Rings You ROCK

Thank you so much!!! It's running however, now when i search, nothing happens. The lime is just spinning and spinning. Is there something else I need to do in options. I had limewire before and i never had this much trouble getting it to run.

piratesluver07 February 10th, 2006 12:44 PM

java problems

ok so i get the same problem as probably many others. When LimeWire is installing, i get a message saying "installing Java, please wait" and it never installs. it eventually freezes. So i went to the link to download Java and I'm not sure which one to install. Please help :(

Lord of the Rings February 10th, 2006 05:24 PM

Get the "Offline" Java installer for version 1.5 (JRE). See point 1 here Fixes for Limewire. Install Java before you install LW. This is better for those having problems when they get to the online Java installation step of installing LW.

sachiaiko March 2nd, 2006 06:29 AM

OKay, So i've been reading the files here but i haven't found an answer to my own problem.

Every time that i try and download limewire, it takes a little while, i think it may be stalling, then it comes up and and i click download and put it on my desktop where i can easily locate it, and it downloads FAR to quickly for it to be legit, then when i try and open to install it tells me that it is corupt.

Yes, i have tried both the recomended and offline version and both do exactly the same thing. I am uncertain as to what i need to do. So far as i know i've the latest update in java as i've updated just a few days ago. I haven't the slightest clue what to do, but i can say that it is vastly frustrating and aggrivating since i really wanted to use limewire for myself and it came highly reccomended from a dear friend of mine.

If anyone knows how to support me with these problems, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Much thanks,

Sphinx March 3rd, 2006 03:14 AM

sachiaiko,

If you have the latest version of java then you should be ok to download. Are you getting Limewire from the offical site? It shouldn't be corrupt if you are dling it from the main site.

Remove that version you got, delete all the leftover LW folders, then start again from the official site to download the program.

You are trying to download the basic version correct? Dont keep reinstalling the version you got because it could have been corrupt. Delete it and startover with a new install.

Edited to add: Let the install be placed in a downloads folder in your c drive. That way, you'll be able to find it.

I'm what ROX your SOX March 17th, 2006 09:02 PM

:( This is so sad... at least it is for me. I'm not sure if it's even Limewire's fault!

You see... my computer went trough a whole recovery so I have none of my old files, and almost none of my old programs.

Of course, Limewire was completely erased, but when I'm trying to install it, a messege that says:

"Internet Explorer cannot download LimeWireWin. exe from www.9limewire.com.

Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found.
Please try again later."

But I keep trying again later, and it DOES NOT WORK!!! But the thing is, a messege similar to this shows for all the programs I'm trying to redownload, so it might just be my computer. But I still have no idea how to fix it! Somebody... Please.... HELP!!!

Grandpa March 17th, 2006 10:35 PM

The link below will take you there.

http://www.limewire.com/english/content/home.shtml

I'm what ROX your SOX March 18th, 2006 09:27 AM

Yeah... that's what I tried the first time, and when I tried it again today, the same messege showed up as before! I don't know why that messege is showing up for everything I'm trying to install... Arhhhhh.

I'm what ROX your SOX March 18th, 2006 12:12 PM

I see... (said the blind man to the deaf man). I think you're right. But whenever I do try to install Limewire, there is that '9' there, and for restoring my computer, my 10-year-old borther's friend did that while I wasn't home, so when I did get home, this is what happened. So now I'm trying to re-install Java, but guess what? A messege similar to the one I got while installing Limewire shows too!

And so I'm still stuck with this computer that is just giving me headaches... and it's supposed to be good, too! And now, it's telling me that I have no memory left on it! Psh! That recovery deleted all the files I actually WANTED! Like Limewire with the hundreds of songs I used to have on it!!!

Follow LOTR's advice here
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...s+installation

There's also a Java beta (JRE) that you can get here
http://java.sun.com/javase/6/download.jsp

kaodorite April 13th, 2006 01:24 AM

my computer continually freezes up when I go into norton internet secuirty to allow limewire.

sezzy4 April 13th, 2006 02:34 AM

Same java problem..again

Ive tried that other version of Java, the java beta, and it still directs me to a 'cannot be displayed' web page. i even tried emailing for support and that page also says the same thing. im on my last thread now, so can someone please help me before i let this beat me!

I am assuming you are using Internet Explorer 6. With your browser open go to Tools/Internet Options then click on advanced. At the bottom of the pop-up screen it will say Reset to default click on it and reset your browser.

Hopefully this will solve your problem.

FLYINDEVIL April 17th, 2006 03:27 PM

Yo, that install doesn't work for me. Can someone just put the files needed to use, NOT install, Limewire, in a compressed folder, and send it to me?

Jj456 April 18th, 2006 02:58 PM

Arite, I Install Limewire... and everything.. and i click to open it. I get this message ---> Your Save Folder is not valid. It may
have been deleted, you may not have
permissions to write to it, or there may
be another problem. Please choose a
different folder.

Maybe i'm missing something really really dumb but... sorry this is killing me.

install is corrupt

I recently reloaded Windows XP and a am trying to set my computer back up like it was before. When I try to install Limewire, the top row of green bars stop on "Downloading unpacked Jars.7z" and the bottom row finishes and give me an error message that says "This install is corrupt, please reinstall limewire and try again. I uploaded the most recent version of Java and still no luck. Is there something in the settings on my computer that is preventing it? I had no problems the first time I installed it. Thanks for any help.

birdy June 7th, 2006 12:28 AM

Try reinstalling Java using the manual (offline) installer. Install Java first
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Now install LW using it's offline installer
http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

:)

SilviOtta June 8th, 2006 06:36 AM

yep, it seems that this worked out!! :)

"If you are reading this, and you are getting the grey screen at startup, try right clicking the icon, going into the properties dialog box, and changing your "Compatibility Mode" to something else... even if what you are trying seems like the best option."

wastedo June 27th, 2006 10:09 AM

I have a similiar problem to rdnek's.
Just before the installation downloads the unpacked Jars.7z, i get an error saying that MSVCR71.dll was not found. If i do nothing and allow the download to finish i get an error saying the installation is corrupted. I've tried reinstalling java first and i get the same problem. Limewire used to run fine for me too but i had to reinstall windows too.
Thanks in advance for any assistance

that is the exact error I get -- the mscv.dll - or whatever.... I tried to download it.. but I even cant get that dll to download! I don't know how to unzip it, I guess.. is there a simple way to do it?

Follow the instructions on that site. If you need an unzipper, there's a free one here which is similar to winrar except is free; it's called TUGZIP: http://www.warp2search.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4139

Limewire Error....

It says :

Error opening file for writing.

C:\Program Files\Limewire\GenericWindowsUtils/dll

Click Abort to Stop the installation,
Retry to try again, or
Ignore to skip the file.

When you press Ignore, the same error message comes up for files ;

C:\Program Files\Limewire\Limewire.exe
C:\Program Files\Limewire\Limewire20.dll
C:\Program Files\Limewire\Windowsv5PlusUtils.dll

Then it trys to "Unpack Jars"

This message appears.

This Installation is corrupted. Please Download and install Limewire again.

I've tryed several times to re-install.
I had limewire on my computer but I made a new desktop and it didn't carry over, so I tryed to install it on that desktop. It uninstalled Limewire from my computer and now I can't re-install!

I meet all the requirements, etc. Because I have had Limewire on this computer TODAY.

I'm not sure how to make it work!

Lord of the Rings July 4th, 2006 07:55 AM

1. I would suggest using your Add/Remove Control panel to remove Java & then re-install using the "Offline" java installer; Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

2. Get the "Offline" LW installer from here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

* Use this utility before re-installing LW: http://www.ccleaner.com/

Did you attempt to use the Add/Remove Programs Control panel to remove LW? IF yes, that's the incorrect way to uninstall LW.

Error 1324?

Hi,

After serving me well for many months, my current Limewire stopped working. I went into Add/Delete programs and deleted it, then downloaded the newest version.

My problem in installation occurs when it hits the Java part. I keep getting the error message "Error 1324 The Path My Pictures contains an invalid character."

What does this mean, and how can I fix it? I've tried unloading and reloading Java to no avail - the error message pops up everytime, and my installation remains incomplete.

Thank you for any assistance!
