I joined this forum just to complain I couldn't get the online installer to work. Thanks man. :)

pqdtw August 24th, 2005 01:50 AM

back-up installer didn't work

Hi...
I tried the backup installer as well, and I continue to get the same error message trying to install.

Limewire 4.9.27
"This installation is corrupted. Please download and install limewire again."

It doesn't matter which I use, I keep getting the same error message...

any suggestions?
Thanks!

Hey thanks a lot, but I've already tried the backup one too!:p WHAT TO DO? WHAT TO DO???

Rotten Software

I bought this wretched software less than a week ago in order to (legally) compare some lyrics for my mother in law's funeral, which is tomorrow.

I have to say that this is the most UN-USER FRIENDLY software I have ever purchased.
Nothing works.
Messages get repeated.
The programme goes round in loops.

It is so bad that my wife thinks that I am the victim of a huge SCAM whereby LimeWire take your money and nothing else happens - Except the continuous offer to upgrade to LimeWire PRO.

I have never been so badly served in my life.

pqdtw August 24th, 2005 05:15 AM

that's where i'm trying to get my download from, but it says each time that the download is corrupted...
doesn't bode very well...guess I will try another p2p program... :(

dodgerblue August 24th, 2005 05:47 AM

Looks like some folks are having trouble here and I wanted to clarify my earlier post.
I formatted my hard drive on the computer I use at home for guitar recording and when I went to download Limewire, all that happened is this wretched online installer just sat there, for days if I let it. Doesn't seem to work too well or at all with Windows 98. Anyway, registered at this forum to vent my disgust, immediately saw this thread and downloaded the backup installer and all is well. I've used Limewire for a little over a year I guess and it seems to do pretty good.
I'm surprised so many are having trouble with it.
I just didn't want to appear that I was ungrateful or unhappy with LW.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

:D

I think you lack some basic understanding, lets break it down:

[Quote]I bought this wretched software less than a week ago in order to (legally)[ /Quote]

The LimeWire company cannot bestow on you the right to download copyright material legally, it does not pretend to or claim to do so. Only scam sites claim that once you have paid them a fee (for a non-existent membership or subscription) you can download anything, this is a LIE and part of their scam.

Quote:

It is so bad that my wife thinks that I am the victim of a huge SCAM whereby LimeWire take your money and nothing else happens
You have married a very wise woman, pity you were not so careful when parting with your money (you should let her take care of your finances from now on). LimeWire did not scam you the site that you foolishly chose scammed you, their the ones that got your money.

You should note that LimeWire Basic is FREE, it seems that you went to a scam site (and you probably can’t remember which site you went to), fell for their lies, threw your money away and all they gave you in return was a URL link to LW Basic.

You could try contact your CC company, tell them you were scammed and try to get your money back that way.

For the future, leave the internet shopping to your wife.

PS. Despite my sarcasm, I hope all goes well for tomorrow.

alright, here is my problem/story:
i had like limewire 4.8 or something up for like 6+ months maybe, up until like an hour or two ago. i was downloading a movie clip, and it put it in a folder called"LimeWire" in Program files. previously it had been sending all of downloads into a folder called "Shared" and i had liked that. then i got kind of angry when it wouldnt let me put new downloads into the original folder. so i went and un-installed(in my frustration) my LimeWire. then i went to the lime wire site and downloaded the zip for the latest limewire. when i went to install it, it gave me a message saying that i had an older version of limewire running, and to close those. but i had uninstalled it? it said it might be an icon in the tray thing at the bottom of the screen iwth things like the sound, and battery life. but there was not a lime in there. so i went and deleted old limwire folders and tryied again. no dice. didnt work. same message. so i tryed clicking "ignore"(it gave me options"abort""retry""ignore") until it was done installing. then it said it didnt install correct and to try again. didnt work. then i took my anger out in MS Paint and made random lines. thats about when i went to the limewire site which lead me here.

HELP ME PLEASE!!:( :( :( :( :( :(

thank you.

no:(

gmay September 6th, 2005 08:41 PM

i had a older version that was working fine. Every time i opened it it would ask for a update on a newer version. For some reason I said yes this time. My old downloads all vanished and I keep getting the error message saying I have an error that an existing file is already open..... has anyone given you any options? Could we try contacting Limewire? What are you doing now for downloads? Thanks

mrsrocky September 10th, 2005 03:45 AM

This is what worked for me....was upgrading limewire v4.8.1 to v4.9.29, crashed in the middle of install, (with both windows & windows offline installer) I just restarted windows after the crash & tried again using the offline installer, worked just fine. I think my problem came from putting one version over top of another, & by restarting, it wrote to the registry that I did not have limewire & let it install. I used the so-called 'corrupted' file.

is this username taken? September 10th, 2005 08:15 AM

gmay- i have just not been downloading music.

mrsrocky- i'll try restarting the comuter and see if it then works...maybe.

Problem

i have like 4 versions of limewire, and I want to delete them all then re-install, however i have no uninstaller, and limewire doesn't show up on my add/remove list. How can i get these off so I can re-install from a fresh start? Thanks!

viola September 21st, 2005 11:54 AM

mdk2004, exactly this happened to me as well, and I'm getting really fed up with it! How to get rid of it to reinstall it without the uninstaller? and it doesn't show up in the program-list either. Is it possible just to delete it manually?Or does that harm other programs? (I'm no good at this!)

Grandpa September 21st, 2005 08:03 PM

Go to Start/My Computer/Local Drive C/Program Files/LimeWire/Uninstall click on uninstall it should do what you want.

tjbinajr September 21st, 2005 08:42 PM

My kids have had LimeWire for about 3 weeks and I was going to set up my other daughter with her own user account . I went to download Limewire for her to use and during the download it said it was removing all previous versions. The newest version 4.9.30 never finished installing. I've tried it several times and each time it says it is corrupted. I did manage to find the music somehow and get it into Itunes so the music wasn't lost. When I clicked on the old LimeWire Icon on the desktop of my other kids user page I got a message that I was to copy the report and e-mail it to bugs@limewire.com but I got that MailerDeamon thing. Also, before the download started it said that the source of the download was unknown. Wouldn't you think if LimeWire created the update that they would know who did it?
I really liked the old version better...:(

Grandpa September 21st, 2005 09:13 PM

Sounds like a bad Java install. Uninstall java and uninstall LimeWire go to the link below and get java and save it to your hard drive go to the link below that and get LimeWire and save it to your hard drive.

Do not use the on line installers do it manually by clicking on the files you saved to your hard drive Java first then LimeWire.

Thanks grandpa!

I did what you said. I removed the Java program, then I had to hand delete the Limewire files because i didn't have the uninstaller . Some files could not be deleted though. Then I shut down the computer. Then I downloaded the Java runtime program and then Limewire again. It works fine now. Again, a BIG thank you!

BeckyW September 24th, 2005 07:49 PM

Didn't work for me

None of these tips or tricks have worked for me yet.I am still getting nowhere. My javais updated correctly and I deleted every old folder and that said limewire, made sure it was gone out of my computer completely before redownloading and trying again and I still get error mesages,The installer is messed up or something or this software is just corrupted..

Grandpa October 20th, 2005 07:34 PM

Sorry to inform you but you have been scammed you need to get a hold of your credit card company and try to get your money back. Then go to the official LimeWire site and get it for free.

LimeWire Basic is free and Pro is $18.88 for pro and 6 months of free upgrades. Try basic first and make sure you like it then you can buy Pro if it works for you. You can get the free version of LimeWire at the link below.

As far as installing it the instructions below may help.

You will need to install Java and LimeWire manually First go to the first link. You can find Links to java in there Download Java to your hard drive by putting a mark in the save to disc box. Save it to my documents or wherever you save downloads from the internet. Do the same with LimeWire the second link will take you there.

Now with that done click on start then control panel add/remove programs and see if Java is listed on the list if it is uninstall it. Do the same with LimeWire if the un installers were not loaded you may have to manually delete the files. But in most cases this is not necessary.

Now click on the Java installer you saved to your hard drive and follow the instructions after you have completed that do the same with LimeWire.

Please post back and let us know if it worked. If it did not I will give further instructions on manually deleting Java and LimeWire.

Alright so, here is the problem.
I have been trying to download LW but once i do and it say that everything is complet and sucsessful..it won't open. I don't get anything. I have windows ( a newer version ) and I have tried numerous times, the link at the very beginning of the forum and the offline version. Help?

Installation

I purchased LM Pro this week and I can't get it installed. Here is what is happening: I downloaded the installer which was emailed to me.
This worked. It created the new icon Limewire Pro 4.9.37. When I click on
this icon, which should load the program, I receive the error message. Right
before the error message pops up, I can see that it is trying to load the
program, it says loading resources, loading html engine, loading user
interface, loading window, loading status window, loading playlist window,
and then it stops and the error message pops up. It looks like it stops
right when it is trying to load core.....?? I have tried rebooting the
system, I have tried reloading the installer, etc. No change. Same error
message at the same point. The error message states that a fatal exception OD has occurred at 0000:0000FF00. Current application will be terminated. Java is running version 1.5.
I am also running Windows 98.

I haven't received a response from LM support. I have emailed them a couple of times. I have rebooted, I have deinstalled and reinstalled. Same error message. Does anyone have any ideas?

ukbobboy01 November 18th, 2005 10:14 AM

This is a silly question but is Java installed on your PC because without it LW cannot work.

I deleted Java and Limewire as you suggested. I downloaded Java and Limewire. I saved both to my hard drive and installed from there. Same error code appears after Limewire tries to load. Is it possible that I downloaded the wrong Java? I downloaded J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 update 5. Thank you for your assistance. Any other ideas?

Grandpa November 20th, 2005 09:02 PM

Try j2re-1_4_2_10-windows-i586-p.exe some people have better luck with it. You can find it at the link below choose the offline installer use the instructions above and install Java first.

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html

Download J2SE JRE

Opps now it does

dsw November 21st, 2005 03:41 PM

installation

Once again, I started over. I deleted Java and I deleted limewire. I loaded j2re 1.4.210 i586p. I downloaded limewire pro from the email they sent me. I saved both to my hard drive and opened java first. Same error. I tried down loading the back up installer that was listed in an earlier forum message. This didn't work either. Nothing seems to work with this program.

Grandpa November 21st, 2005 06:45 PM

There is one more thing you can try I do not know if it will work or not. I have not seen anybody have as much trouble as you are having with Java if this doesn't work I do not know where to go from here.

First uninstall Java and LimeWire if you can then follow the instructions below.

You will need to go to Start/Run type regedit into the box this will open the registry editor

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER go to software expand it look for Java Script if you find it delete it. Now collapse it.

Now go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE go to software expand it look for Java, LimeWire & Magnet delete them if you find them.Collapse it

Now go to HKEY_USERS go to S-1-5-21 the first one then go to software expand it look for java if you find it delete it. Collapse it. Close registry editor now go back to the original instructions and manually install Java then LimeWire.

Be careful when you are in the registry do not delete anything other than I listed above you can mess up your machine if you accidentally uninstall something or change your registry settings.

dsw November 27th, 2005 05:43 AM

Didn't work. I still get the same error code. The only difference is that when LM starts to load, I have a solid black box on my screen. In other words, I can't see it trying to load. After a few seconds, I receive the error code message.

installation fine - but no run.

This is especially for Grandpa!!

I had a bit of a computer glitch, had to reinstall some applications that lost their links from desktop / were corrupted. Limewire was one of them. It installed fine with no errors, but would not run, either from icon or .exe file. And until i read a post from Grandpa i did not know my Java machine was corrupted! Reinstalled the JRE, and bingo! Limewire is up again. So thank you, grandpa! Wise old head, eh?
PS. I have seen a lot of gripes in here about limewire - i have used it for ages through several updates. It is a great thing. Sometimes for other stuff like software i use eMule, but for music and graphics Limewire is so cool.
How much did i appreciate your guidance, Grandpa? Well, I registered just to tell you this.
Cheers.
