Out Of Pocket

No I Did Not Get My money back and spent $15.00 AU Waiting in a "Que" on their so called a"1800 International Help number" before she answerwed and then hung up on me then left the phone of the Hook or switched me to a recording that said "Dial Before you Dig??"

Grandpa They advertised LWat $29.00 I think it was? this turned out to be US $'s thats fine however" I Never Asked for Pro or the other 2 services I was billed for???? which all came to $84?? AU??? I managed to Download and install LW for Zip from this forum where sombody had placed a link to help mugs like me so I recieved $34.00 worth of LW for a Cost Of $95.00 as well as 5 hours of wasting my time and haqving to cancel our Visa card Etc!!! so it has nothing to do with simple things and thinking whilst gazing at ones Navel Grandpa the fact is that the LW site was a DUD and I was duped along with many other people I have been reading about. birdy March 27th, 2007 03:24 PM

Hi Dasha,
You've been royally scammed by someone, but it wasn't LimeWire.
www.limewire.com is the only official site to download either version of LW. If you go to the site & click the 'get it now' button, you'll be sent to this page
http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml & as you can see, LW basic's free. You pay nothing.

The only version of LW that costs anything is Pro. That's $18.88 USD($23.37 AUD). There are no extra services to pay for. If you did choose to buy Pro, you'd be billed for that amount only...because there's nothing else to pay for;)

LimeWire doesn't have a 1800 number to call. There's no phone support at all. Pro users are entitled to 6 months of email support. Basic users can come here for support.

There are that many scam sites around, heaps of people get ripped off. But they're being ripped off by the scammers, not by Limewire LLC.

Thanks Birdie

That's what I have been saying Cobba! it was when I was going thru the Search results and clicked on the "Dud" Limewire from my search result? that I was sideblinded onto the rippoff site!
A lesson hard learned! However as I have been insisting all along it was only because of someone from LW who wrote and tried to help me that I managed to salvage something out of this and it was not "LIMEWIRE the original" who "Trimmed" me but some other sidewinder I used LW a year ago and had no trouble at all" and once I was on this time no problem! So Iam very gratfull to whoever it was at LW who advised me in the first instance that I had been Ripped off" and made several attemts to indirectly assist me to get my money back and finally showed me the correct link to "Download it free" so again I thank that lady from LW" and them for their help and to all that read this it was not there fault it was mainly my own carelessness that allowed the Dud to steal my money, anyway as I have said to all! Especially if you are like me" only a computer fan and still learning" be carefull of what you do as there are some miserable S Of B 's out there who at times make all our lives miserable thank's to all who wrote. Check the options here Fixes for Limewire. For Java that means uninstalling your present Java & reinstalling using only the 'Offline' version.

If you have problems installing LW, then see Download ‘Other’ version & simply unzip & use! but uninstall LW first by going to Start menu > Programs > LW > Uninstall

renee8you May 2nd, 2007 10:59 AM

I tried installing the offline java and it took so long i had to cancel. How long is it supposed to load...

Lord of the Rings May 2nd, 2007 11:02 AM

Did you use the 'Offline' installer ? Not the one you install over the internet. Try the 13.1 MB Offine download (2nd on list) from here Download Java software from Sun Microsystems

renee8you May 2nd, 2007 11:05 AM

sothis is probley a dumb question but can i download offline?Yes i used that 1 and it was downloading so slow

Lord of the Rings May 2nd, 2007 11:08 AM

It's called Offline because you install offline, not over the internet. If the file is downloading very slowly, then imagine how slow it would be trying to instal it whilst it is downloading. Such slow speeds often result in faulty program installations which is why we recommend the "Offline" installer. With the offline installer you don't need to be connected to the internet at the time you actually install it. Only whilst you are downloading the installer. ;)

renee8you May 2nd, 2007 11:10 AM

Oh ok
now i uninstalled Java but When i do a search I still have a whole bunch Should i delete those?

Lord of the Rings May 2nd, 2007 11:18 AM

Check your Add/Remove control panel & only uninstall thru that. You may see a listing like Java or j2se or jre. Don't manually delete program files as they may belong to another program. If you're unsure, get this utility Crap Cleaner as it will remove any files that belong to programs that are no longer needed such as previous versions no longer used. ;)

LW starts to load and then stops

I have been using it for months and had very few problems. I was away from the pc for week and when tried to use it started this issue of not opening. I have removed the program and downloaded it again. I have updated Java. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Tony

Dasha May 3rd, 2007 12:52 AM

kyblue & renee8you, Go Back and totally delete ALL of L/Wire from Add & Remove Programs as well as> Start > All programs> L/Wire Delete. as well as "Quicktime" then download L/Wire again from the link in this forum, I found that L/Wire will not "Load & Work" if the "Quicktime" Icon is not in the taskbar, or on the Desktop as a Shortcut, Etc or turned off!!!!! give it a try good luck Dasha

v4.12 fails to complete install

Have used Limewire for years w/ no problems. Before reinstalling XPpro the current version, 4.12, worked flawlessly. After rebuilding (changing nothing but adding a partition to HD), Limewire doesn't complete the install. I get a window that says I need to configure my Firewire (EZ Trust), but nothing to check or any boxes to continue. Beneath that window is a screen saying Limewire is trying to load the HTML engine, but there it hangs. I used the current installer program I had saved and then downloaded the alternate installer mention, but no luck. Any suggestions?

namrevliS May 26th, 2007 11:47 PM

I can't find were to start a new thread; and since my question is relevant, here it is: I have been using LW's free version for about a year with no problems I couldn't solve. So I decided to upgrade and pay for the pro version. When I click on "Get Limewire Pro" I get this message: "There is no editor configured for PHP?24 files. Do you want to save Lime Wire » Download LimeWire to a file?" I clicked on "Yes" and it was saved as "pro.php" I looked at it in Notepad and realised that it's an html file so I opened it with FrontPage but since then I'm unable to download the upgrade file or even to pay for it. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dave *******an

im new to limewire and last night i tried to download the basic beta version of it and when it came to the down load box it froze at 17 seconds I repeated the process again and again but still failed around 17 seconds.I tried downloading the basic non-beta version but the same thing happened. Can anyone help me?
P.S i tried the link above but froze like the others

birdy June 4th, 2007 04:21 AM

Try this: Install Java first. Use the JRE offline installer & remove any old Java versions from your computer before you install this one.
Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5

Once you've got Java installed, intsall LW & make sure to use the offline installer (not the recommended one).
Lime Wire » Download LimeWire

If things still won't install, try using the 'other' installer...see the link below;)
Installing using the 'other' installer

namrevliS June 5th, 2007 03:41 AM

I never said I had a problem installing

I said LW would not allow me to pay for the upgrade.

Limewire will not open!

I've previously had Limewire, but haven't used it in a long time. Recently I upgraded from dial-up to BellSouth DSL. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Limewire and Java. I can't get this program to work no matter what I do. Can someone please help me? Thanks!

Windows XP, Firewall through Norton Antivirus (have disabled and tried to open Limewire), DSL connection, Modem Westell DSL2 & Router, Limewire version 4.12.14, Java Web Start, Test worked, don't know about the p2p sharing. Don't know where to check that.

Need help desperately!

Thank you!

Get what fixed Cloud? Your post is SO vague we don't have a clue what you are talking about.

We don't know how to fix your problem because you haven't given any details. Did you read the thread from earlier on? Errors due to mistakenly uninstalling LW using Add/Remove control panel - what to try now. Read from here onward!

Problems starting Limewire

Hi, I downloaded Limewire again after Limewire stopped working. So I deleted it through the User Control Panel and downloaded it again. Everything seemed to go smoothly except for one thing...it doesn't work. When I try to start it, I double click on the icon, the limewire symbol pops up then nothing. I have tried everything from reloading and rebooting to trying it with Norton turned off. Any suggestions?
I have tried other mp3 downloader's such as Shareaza. It starts up and everything but it never downloads correctly. Limewire is great and easy to use, just have to get it started.
Thanks for the help.

Lord of the Rings July 4th, 2007 06:44 AM

Check my post above. The control panel is NOT the way to uninstall LW. That's why you are having problems.

Ibby July 4th, 2007 10:09 AM

Done

OK, M'Lord I deleted Limewire as and where requested. I put new Java in (the so-called offline version) with no problems. I then downloaded the Limewire. Still no dice. I get the Limewire Logo then nothing. Any ideas? You help is much appreciated. Thnx.
BTW, doesn't it seem that there are a lot of us with the same problem?

Lord of the Rings July 4th, 2007 10:18 AM

So you are using the version from the zip file right? You just unzip & use, no installation necessary? Did you clean your system with Crap Cleaner before hand?

BTW you will probably need to reconfigue it with Norton FW again. Norton tends to do that.

Also, delete your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

If still issues, remove all java versions, then install this version: Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

BTW normally installing LW will uninstall the previous version at beginning of installation, else you can uninstall via start menu > Programs > LW > Uninstall.

Considering the population of LW users, no I don't think there's that many. Count how many users with installation issues & see what % of 20+ million that is. Lots of zeros less than 0.1% lol :D

I need help as soon as possible!

The other day I attempted to "update" my limewire. When I went to open it, there was a message saying that the installation was corrupt and that I should re-download. So I uninstalled the program, and I re-downloaded Java, and the download still won't work. The alert message says something like "You do not have privileges to install limewire. Please restart the installer as an asministrator or power user."
But I'm the administrator of my computer.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated! :)

Brutus42 July 17th, 2007 08:45 PM

One of the biggest problems with people sitting in front of computers is that they don't know how to read _ manuals, that is ! Anyone ever think of reading the 'help' files ???
Most people download the program, install it, and then expect it to work 100%.... _ WRONG! Every program needs to be set up. Every Limewire program I've worked with has similar setups for firewall settings, upload/dopwnload speeds and file limits, etc. People, try 'tweeking' some of these settings until you get a program that works even better than 100%. OH, and remember, you can only download as fast as your ISP connection allows. These stupid internet speeder programs just slow you down, not speed you up ! OH, Yah....and for those who've been having trouble installing Limewire and the program window fails to load, try removing your NVidia video cards and put in an ATI card. I just swapped out 5 different NVidia cards with no luck on Limewire loading....I thru in an ATI pci-e card and the program works perfectly. Some NVidia software doesn't support the newer java !!!
Give it a try !
OH, I may be new to this discussion group, BUT I am into my 9th year of computer and software repair !

I have a suspicion a reboot might fix that but maybe not.
1. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

2. Run this small utility: CCleaner.com

3. Download & use this version: Download ‘Other’ version & simply unzip & use!

*** How did you uninstall LW? If you used the add/remove control panel then that's why the problem. (LW should not be uninstalled using the control panel.) Answer to is basically steps 2 & 3 above. Re-installing LW will remove the previous LW at beginning of installation. Else, start menu > Programs > LW > Uninstall. ;)

Limewire Installation issues

I thank 'Lord of the Rings" for his recent posting on this matter with the Limewire fix.
I have to make a comment on it though.....
95% of the computer users out there (USA & Canada)wouldn't have a clue on how to follow even these simple instructions on getting Limewire working. I know, because I deal with them on a daily basis !
AND, it seems, that the Limewire software makers know about the issue, BUT say they are 'trying' to fix it for the 'next' version(s). I like Limewire, but these program gliches are getting more than annoying, but at least the current versions are adware/spyware free!
As in my posting, I made no alterations to the program, I simply changed the video card, of all things, and it worked just fine from the original install ! I do know that there are issues with NVidia & ATI on Direct3D & OpenGL applications and believe that there is an issue with J2SE_1.4.x and newer versions with a major lot of newer NVidia cards.
I've never had a Limewire loading issue yet with any ATI card that I've ever used and/or installed !
For those who've done everything possible to get Limewire to work and can't, get your hands on an ATI card, Rage, Radeon or newer, and give it a try. Betcha it works just fine without program modding !!!

Please don't ask about getting LW Pro for free on this forum. $18.88 is a small payment for such a good app.

Most of us are happy to support the development of LW by buying Pro:rolleyes:

i managed to get a response from limewire and guess what i was told to buy LW Pro again as my subcription has run out i thought when you bought pro you only had to buy it once you get support for six months free. but as my subcription was almost a year ago i can't download it again unless i buy it again.
