Any ideas on how to help me? I originaly used Morpheus but Morpheus sucks *** :)

limewire pro is lost

ok so i have limewire pro and i tried to update it but for some weird reason my email wouldnt come up. It kept on saying that it couldnt be found. so i ended up downloading the basic version. after about 10 times of trying to dowload it(it kept on saying the instaler was corrupt) i finally got it going. Is there anyway possible that i can get my limewire pro back? if its a lost cause then nevermind.thanx:)

birdy July 21st, 2006 02:00 AM

Depends how long ago you bought Pro... your payment covers updates for 6 months. If you bought more than 6 months ago, your email address won't be in the database anyway & you'll have to buy again to get a newer Pro.

If you did buy less than 6 months ago, from the official site (www.limewire.com) then there are links below to help. You might end up having to send a PM to rsterne:)

It's that ole MSVCR71.dll problem

I've tried both installers, I even tried using the installer from my other pc. which is running 4.10.9 I think. I've tried doing all the things suggested but still no go. I did have a version on this comp, but I left it downloading when I went out and I came back to find it shut down and unstartable. so was my : my music folder: and windows explorer. To cut a long story short I had to have someone come and re-format the hard drive and re-install windows. which they did along with an up to date java.lost all my music though. If you can help twould be good, but I don't know scooby doo about programmin so you would to do it step by step. If it helps Ive got an IBM. p4 2.4 pross, 40gig hard with 1 gig ram. windows xp pro 2002 sevice pack 2.

Cheers....................

p.s love music, love limewire. but is it possible to inclued the file in you download?

birdy July 23rd, 2006 05:45 PM

Do you get a message that the MSVCR71.dll is missing? Check out Sleepless's posts here

I just purchased the limewire pro when I try to install it windows xp gives me an error stating it is not a win32 application and won't let it install

Lord of the Rings July 25th, 2006 09:51 AM

Hmm that's interesting. Try downlding the "Other (OS/2, Solaris, Linux)" version which is listed at the bottom of downloads. That version is a zip. Just unzip & use. See if you have the same problems trying to open it.

rayray1 July 25th, 2006 09:55 AM

win32 error

I am runing 4.12.3 I ordered limewire pro and downloaded it but when I go to install it I get an error stating it's not a win32 application and won't install it what's up with that? Also when I go to the limewire tech support it comes up with a screen stating what are you trying to do??? and it just sits there it won't let you type anything.

Lord of the Rings July 25th, 2006 10:17 AM

One the support page: You need to select the drop down answers to the questions, then type in your problem, then press Submit. I don't know why you have the problem with the installer. Pro support will probably know. That program I suggested trying, you can downld from your personal pro downld page. It is also pro & is the same thing. It was just a suggestion.

rayray1 July 25th, 2006 11:03 AM

support does not even show me a drop down for the answers it just has that one question sitting there I've looked all over the screen and nothing. Where is the download that you are talking about that has os/2, solaris, linux is it on the internet or is it on the limewire program itself

Lord of the Rings July 25th, 2006 05:26 PM

2 Attachment(s)
Support you'll find here http://www.limewire.com/english/content/support.shtml

Download options you will find on your personal pro download page.

Can't exit older version of limewire when i'd like to update

Hi,
I would be very glad if someone had a tip for me how to "exit older version of limewire" which appearently is running. I cant update to limewire 4.12... without cancelling the running older version. On the sign that told me this it said it might be running on my system tray and if i wanted to exit i should right-click on the lime-icon and push exit but there is no exit-button when I right-click! Can somebody please help me?

AaronWalkhouse July 31st, 2006 08:26 AM

Hold the control key while pressing alt and delete at the same time. When the
Task Manager window opens up you can stop any program that appears in
there. If you don't see it on the first page, try the second one.

AaronWalkhouse July 31st, 2006 08:28 AM

Of course, you could probably double-click that icon to open LimeWire up.
Then you could go into the File menu and exit the program. :p

Limewire to Limewire Pro

I recently decided to upgrade from Limewire to Limewire Pro through the pop up window at the start up of Limewire that took me to Limewire.com to where I proceeded to purchase the upgrade. After making the purchase it sent me to a window to download the Pro version for my operating system, "Windows". While running the installer I recieve a NSIS Error saying "The installer you are trying to use is corrupt or incomplete. This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or virus. You may want to contact the author of the installer for a new copy" What do I need to do now?

Go to add/remove programs & remove your current Java version. Now install Java (JRE) using the offline installer here
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

Once Java's installed, reinstall LW using it's offline installer
http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

See if that fixes things:)

Installation Problem - Limewire Basic 4.12.6

SEP 3, 2006 (2:00PM EST)

Upon trying to install the latest version of limewire (4.12.6)
I get the Error Message seen in uppercase letters below.
(I have Windows XP.)

AN OLDER VERSION OF LIMEWIRE APPEARS TO BE RUNNING.
YOU MUST EXIT THE OLD VERSION BEFORE CONTINUING WITH INSTALLATION.
ONCE YOU HAVE EXITED LIMEWIRE, CLICK RETRY.

NOTE THAT LIMEWIRE MAY BE RUNNING IN YOUR SYSTEM TRAY.
TO EXIT, RIGHT-CLICK ON THE LIMEWIRE ICON AND CHOOSE EXIT.)

ABORT / RETRY / IGNORE

Then, clicking either one of the three options results in a failed download.

I do not have Limewire running and there is no desktop icon for Limewire.
(I did have an older version of Limewire, but the attepmted current download killed it. I looked in the 'Add/Remove Programs' folder and Limewire is not present there. I am assuming it was uninstalled or surpressed in some way.)

I also tried WINDOWS, WINDOWS OFFLINE INSTALLER and the link
provided by Zak (Moderator): ttp://www9.limewire.com/download/LimeWireWin-full.exe

Any advice?

Grandpa September 3rd, 2006 11:52 AM

Try rebooting

Psoles September 4th, 2006 09:01 AM

Thanx Grandpa. (LimeWire should clarify.)

Grandpa,
Thanx for the suggestion to reboot though it didn't work.
Apparently, many users are having this same currently non-solvable problem.

I'm suspecting a hacker corruptes LimeWire's site and that
we're all downloading the corrupt files.

Or LimeWire was corrupted on it's own.

bm131810 September 5th, 2006 03:01 PM

JRE problem again!

Grandpa,

I tried your directions for editing the registry for this seemingly very common and aggravating problem - apparently when logged in with Admin rights I have insufficient privleges to modify the Limewire and Magnet keys under Local Machine, so I can't delete them.

LW tries to install JRE update 3 (using the offline installer), and I've already installed JRE u8 (using the JRE offline installer).

I've deleted my user account (I have another with admin rights) and recreated it to no result and have tried all these steps when logged in under the only other admin account. I only have the two accounts.

Help!!

rleader September 6th, 2006 07:59 AM

I'm trying to install Limewire on my wife's computer. I gets to the "loading Java" part & stays there.
I've uninstalled Java & the old LW. Then reinstalled Java from the offline installer as mentioned earlier. I then tried to install LW from the off line install links mentioned above, but the same issue w/ the "loading Java" thing.
I even went to the regedit & removed Java. One question with that though, should I have removed "Java soft" also? That I did not do.
Any other suggestions would greatly be appreciated. My wife is now trying to monopolize my computer, which runs LW no problem.
Thanks in advance!
Ron

Lord of the Rings September 6th, 2006 08:07 AM

I'd remove all your Java versions & reinstall the latest. Also, try changing LW's compatibility mode to win 2000 or NT. Also delete the LW preferences (I don't know if you'll have any but if you do they're most likely corrupt.) Fixes for Limewire

If still problems after that, then ignore the installer & get this 'Other' version: Unzip it & use

bm131810 September 6th, 2006 12:20 PM

JRE help still needed

Hi again,

I am still struggling with this persistent problem. I have managed to remove the JavaSoft and Limewire keys from Local Machine but cannot remove Magnet because I do not (as Administrator) have rights to access the Handler subkey.

I thought Administrators had God-like power over a system!! Why can I not delete this key? Why is it holding me up in any case?

- Bill

rleader September 6th, 2006 07:21 PM

Got it working finally.
Thanks all!

I'm not sure it needs to be removed. LW should be able to reinstall over the top of earlier versions (so long as they're not older than version 4.4). You could try using this utility http://www.ccleaner.com/ which does a decent job of removing redundant keys.

I have tried to download new version from website and it keeps telling me file is corrupted and try to reinstall

LOTR - Magnet Handlers

Hi Magnet, you would think it would just install over it but it doesn't. It's as if the Handlers key is locked up - in safe mode logged in as Admin, I cannot delete it or change permissions, I do not have access to it. Magnet yes, Handlers no.

I didn't want to reinstall Windows just to use Limewire, but it looks like I have to . I think this is ultimately a Windows issue moreso than a LW or Java issue. I am using Media Centre 05 if that explains anything to anyone.

Also, I've used ccleaner too, as I'de seen you recommend that in another posting. It finds lots of stuff to fix in the registry, but not this Magnet key thing.

I'd really like to avoid reinstalling Windows if anyone has any brilliant ideas!!

Yes, tried that

How about renaming it?
:Smilywais:

Yep, did that. Can't rename it as I don't have correct permissions, otherwise I could delete it.

Lord of the Rings September 7th, 2006 08:39 PM

Sorry I'm not a windows person for complex issues. (macman :D) But if you reboot using a startup disk such as cd, dvd, floppy or whatever, the permissions will be totally changed & those that belong to the unbooted system will not apply. ;) At least that can work on the mac. But also depends on exactly which system file.

bm131810 September 8th, 2006 07:28 AM

Thanks LOTR

Thanks LOTR anyway for your help, I appreciate very much the effort you put into trying to find an answer to this problem for me - I've checked with other sources and no one anywhere is able to help beyond reinstalling, so I bought a second HDD yesterday and will line that up as my weekend project... Oh well...

I used to be a Macman back in the Classic days, pre Win 95, and then got cheap and went Intel. Now everything's changed in both camps around ease of use, software compatibility, etc., but one thing remains the same:

Windows sucks!!

Have a great day,

Bill

I have tried everthing

I have installed , uninstalled, tried the other installation and I keep getting a corrupt installation and am not able to get anything to work. This is rediculous.

birdy September 8th, 2006 04:25 PM

Go to add/remove programs & remove your old Java version. Now reinstall Java JRE & make sure that you use the manual (offline) installer.
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Now reinstall LW using it's offline installer
http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

See if that fixes things:)

glsyldy September 9th, 2006 07:17 PM

I appreciate your advise and I followed it to the letter but same thing is still happening. It just freezes on step 6 and never goes to step 7 or 8 of the installation set up.

birdy September 9th, 2006 09:34 PM

Which page is it freezing on (firewall setup, language options etc)?

glsyldy September 10th, 2006 05:33 AM

It is freezing after the firewall permissions page, it never goes on to the last two steps. I am running Zone Alarm but Limwire has full permissions. If I exit the set up and right click on the shortcut and choose run, it says that my installation is corrupt, files missing and I need to reinstall.

newfiegirl September 12th, 2006 04:09 AM

There's 2 possible reasons I can think of why LW was continually starting up. The most likely cause was a common gnutella virus. I'd recommend signing up to norbie's site & follow his instructions to be sure you don't still have any remnants of the virus or its damage: NorbiesWorld (click on link)

After Norbie has seen your problem & responded, reinstall LW & Java & delete your LW prefs folder as described in steps 1-3 here (if still problems see step 5): Fixes for Limewire

Did you install the Java properly using the JRE offline installer of the newest version prior to the installation of LW? You could get it here (version 1.5.0_8):
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
But before installing this version, uninstall all othet Java versions and reboot after uninstalling and after the new installation before reinstalling LW.
If that doesn't solve your problem, try to use the LW offline installer for "Others" OS systems at the bottom of the list of downloads available at the official LW site:
http://www.limewire.com/

I've been trying to solve this install problem for my son for three hours, now it's time to ask for help. I have tried several of the advised options listed in the forum, including uninstalling java and reinstalling, uninstalling lw and reinstalling, and lastly, as suggested by foolofthehill, doing so manually and offline. All leave me with the same result: installation appears successful but upon trying to run, getting this message:
