![]() I've previously had Limewire, but haven't used it in a long time. Recently I upgraded from dial-up to BellSouth DSL. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Limewire and Java. I can't get this program to work no matter what I do. Can someone please help me? Thanks! Windows XP, Firewall through Norton Antivirus (have disabled and tried to open Limewire), DSL connection, Modem Westell DSL2 & Router, Limewire version 4.12.14, Java Web Start, Test worked, don't know about the p2p sharing. Don't know where to check that. Need help desperately! Thank you! |

![]() Get what fixed Cloud? Your post is SO vague we don't have a clue what you are talking about. We don't know how to fix your problem because you haven't given any details. Did you read the thread from earlier on? Errors due to mistakenly uninstalling LW using Add/Remove control panel - what to try now. Read from here onward! |

![]() Hi, I downloaded Limewire again after Limewire stopped working. So I deleted it through the User Control Panel and downloaded it again. Everything seemed to go smoothly except for one thing...it doesn't work. When I try to start it, I double click on the icon, the limewire symbol pops up then nothing. I have tried everything from reloading and rebooting to trying it with Norton turned off. Any suggestions? I have tried other mp3 downloader's such as Shareaza. It starts up and everything but it never downloads correctly. Limewire is great and easy to use, just have to get it started. Thanks for the help. |

BTW, doesn't it seem that there are a lot of us with the same problem? |

![]() So you are using the version from the zip file right? You just unzip & use, no installation necessary? Did you clean your system with Crap Cleaner before hand? BTW you will probably need to reconfigue it with Norton FW again. Norton tends to do that. Also, delete your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) If still issues, remove all java versions, then install this version: Java 1.5 (take the JRE) BTW normally installing LW will uninstall the previous version at beginning of installation, else you can uninstall via start menu > Programs > LW > Uninstall. Considering the population of LW users, no I don't think there's that many. Count how many users with installation issues & see what % of 20+ million that is. Lots of zeros less than 0.1% lol ![]() |

![]() The other day I attempted to "update" my limewire. When I went to open it, there was a message saying that the installation was corrupt and that I should re-download. So I uninstalled the program, and I re-downloaded Java, and the download still won't work. The alert message says something like "You do not have privileges to install limewire. Please restart the installer as an asministrator or power user." But I'm the administrator of my computer. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! ![]() |

1. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) 2. Run this small utility: CCleaner.com 3. Download & use this version: Download ‘Other’ version & simply unzip & use! *** How did you uninstall LW? If you used the add/remove control panel then that's why the problem. (LW should not be uninstalled using the control panel.) Answer to is basically steps 2 & 3 above. Re-installing LW will remove the previous LW at beginning of installation. Else, start menu > Programs > LW > Uninstall. ![]() |

![]() I thank 'Lord of the Rings" for his recent posting on this matter with the Limewire fix. I have to make a comment on it though..... 95% of the computer users out there (USA & Canada)wouldn't have a clue on how to follow even these simple instructions on getting Limewire working. I know, because I deal with them on a daily basis ! AND, it seems, that the Limewire software makers know about the issue, BUT say they are 'trying' to fix it for the 'next' version(s). I like Limewire, but these program gliches are getting more than annoying, but at least the current versions are adware/spyware free! As in my posting, I made no alterations to the program, I simply changed the video card, of all things, and it worked just fine from the original install ! I do know that there are issues with NVidia & ATI on Direct3D & OpenGL applications and believe that there is an issue with J2SE_1.4.x and newer versions with a major lot of newer NVidia cards. I've never had a Limewire loading issue yet with any ATI card that I've ever used and/or installed ! For those who've done everything possible to get Limewire to work and can't, get your hands on an ATI card, Rage, Radeon or newer, and give it a try. Betcha it works just fine without program modding !!! |
